A fellow Brit here and I have not experienced any problems with Costa in regards to other passengers or languages spoken. The staff speak around 5 languages...English being the first and the passenger mix on average is as good as any other line really. Don't let the fact that it's an Italian line fool you into thinking that you'll be the only English speaker on board cos you won't...and there is usually an English or Australian hostess on board to assist you too, she will hold 'clinics' for Q&A sessions once or twice a day and they are listed in the daily newsletter.

On our recent Atlantica cruise to the Baltics, the entertainment was music and dance, featuring American music. There was a different theme each evening. . Good shows with good choreography, too. After 11 p.m. there were fun contests and other entertainment with many happy people, including this American. Lots of dancing on the ship - many happy families with children.

There were 50 Americans on board, and the total English speaking passengers was about 75. Of course people from the Baltics, and German people also spoke English. Every single passenger, as well as ship's staff, was very sociable and helpful, even the ones who didn't speak much English - smiles and a few polite words in their language works every time.

Hope this answers your question about the entertainment.

We were on the Costa Fortuna in the mediterranean and language was no barrier. We met some lovely german families who spoke only a little english but we sat in the piano bar together late one night and had a lovely time. The entertainment was in english, staff all spoke english, no problems at all with communications.
