Have you ever heard of this?

I booked our January 2, 2010- 5 night cruise on Inspiration for myself, DH, DS (20) and DD (14) last Monday. I booked a category 6B stateroom for us. At the time I booked, the only thing showing up available was a room with 2 twins that convert, and 1 upper bunk and was told we would need a roll-away. Yesterday, a bunch of "true" quad occupancy staterooms were made avaiablle in the 6B category, so I called Carnival to change our stateroom (by the way, I booked an early saver rate). The person I spoke with told me that she would change our room (and she did) but then went on to telll me that if the cabin she switched us to was needed for a party of 5 we would be bumped back down to what I had originally booked. Have you ever heard of this? I didn't purchase a guarantee room, I paid to be able to book the cabin we wanted. Please help.....

I booked a cabin for 2 people, then wanted to change cabins in the same category. There was only one cabin left and I wanted that one. It was a cabin that would accommodate 3 people (2 twins and a sofabed). I was told that they would let me switch to that room, but if later someone needs a 3 person cabin, I could be bumped.

It has been in the cruise contract for sometime now.

(f) Specific stateroom assignments are not guaranteed. Carnival reserves the right to move Guests to a comparable stateroom for any reason, including but not limited to, instances in which a stateroom is booked with fewer than the maximum number of Guests the stateroom can accommodate; or when a partial Guest cancellation occurs and the remaining number of Guests do not match the maximum number of Guests the stateroom can accommodate.

So yes they can bump you if necessary.

Do they really allow 5 people in a 6B?

If they do, those people are going to be really cramped!!

Some ships are grandfathered in before a SOLAS rule prevented it. Now the cabin has to be designed to hold 5 with ample space.

That is why we continue to book our cruise with our TA. That way when strange things come up she would know if it was a normal situation or not. Plus, she could do all the argueing for us. Which she has done for us in the past. For example, Carnival said we couldn't have an available cabin we wanted on the starboard side of the ship, but said we could have the same cabin on the port side. Saying it was because we were sailing with just the two of us. Well, she got us the cabin we wanted.

Yes...that's pretty standard.

Each cabin has an occupancy rate. It's not unusual for there to be only 3 people in a cabin that will hold 4. If a party of 4 wants to book and there are no other quad cabins available, they will move the party of 3 in order to accomodate the party of 4.

Same with an accessible cabin......if you are assigned one and it is needed, you'll be moved.

Just got off the phone after speaking to a Carnival PVP. I saw the $ for past guest obstructed view balcony was only a few dollars more then the Interior I had booked. The OV cabins available for 2 people were up where the very tall life boats are located. I asked about a couple other rooms I saw avail. on Carnival website with the lower life boats and I was told they were triples. I could book one, but if they needed a triple 7A room for a later booking we would be moved at their discretion and could still end up in a room we didn't want. We still have 4 1/2 months to go so we decided to just wait and watch the prices for balconies.
