Helping engaged couple find a great cruise for honeymoon

Hi...my husband's partner (paramedic) is coming over tomorrow night and wants me to help his fiance and him...find a great cruise for next May. They are getting married. He and the rest of my husband coworkers have been floored to see some of the great prices I've gotten on my cruises. So I agreed. They are very open...to any ideas...they have never taken a vacation before. Very young...early 20s. I am excited to help them and think it will be a lot of fun. Can you guys help me a bit??? I usually look for cruises that are kid friendly and that was his only request...is that I find him a cruise that wasn't filled with kids. I'm open to other cruiselines...maybe Celebrity would be good...but I tend to lean toward RCCL...because I know they'll have a great time.

We are looking at the end of May. I'm thinking the Southern Carribean...I may be able to find some good prices because kids are still in school...so prices are down.

either a Western cruise with RCCL (more kid friendly than Celebrity) or an inclusive to Mexico (Iberostart is great)

what about a hawaiian cruise? its gorgeous, fun and a classic honeymoon vacation? or what about a mediterranian cruise next may on splendour? they are offering some really good prices on 7 day cruises.

Plug in the date you need on Travelocity. You may have to adjust it to fit the available sailing dates. Then you can narrow it down by price and start researching the itineraries and ships. Once that is done, refer them to a great TA who can match or beat the prices.

The later in May that they go, the higher the likelihood that there will be more kids. Schools around here won't be out until June, but that won't necessarily hold true for schools everywhere.

There is only one choice, the Southern 7 day run out of San Juan. Did it three times on the Monarch before she moved and it was "THE" honeymoon cruise. If you have any time go down for a couble days before the cruise and get relaxed. We always stayed at the Hyatt and it was like two vacaction in one. I'm not sure which ship makes the run now and I think it leaves on Saturday instead of Sunday. What a cruise.

IME Celebrity had way fewer kids but was too boring for me. It lacks the energy of RCI. But the food, service and cabins are great! It might be just right for a honeymoon if they are not into nightlife.

Stay away from the Voyager class ships because they get more kids. Radiance class is a better choice. Southern Caribbean would be a good choice, I think.

Hmmm For a honeymoon?

I would think an itinerary with more days at sea would be a consideration.

Just hope the other guests don't get seasick from all the motion!

I am doing the same thing for my son and his fiance. I agree with hstrybuff. If they have set their wedding date then you can work from that and see what your choices are on Travelocity. Then you need to find out if they are looking for relaxation or more sightseeing and activities and what they can afford to spend. You should be able to narrow it down from there. For their age I would not recommend Celebrity or HAL but the earlier in May the better if they want to cut down on the number of kids. I would also avoid a cruise with a lot of sea days because they may get bored.

I've been doing a little searching already...and I've got to agree with Capt...so far...I think the Serenade out of San Juan is going to be a good bet...I just don't know how much they are able to afford...and we have to figure in airfare...it maybe something that her/his parents are paying for...don't know. But as some of you know from my post...looking for a shoulder to cry on...I was booked on this ship until I had to cancel...and I really liked what I was finding...great reviews. I'll mention all of your ideas to them when they are hear tomorrow.

I had thought about Hawaii too. That is definately a romantic vacation!!!

One of my co-workers recently had her daughter take a honeymoon cruise on Mariner of the Seas. They had nothing but good things to say about the trip.

And I'll agree to disagree about staying away from Voyager Class vessels because of kids. The Adventure Ocean is one of the best on the Seas and does an excellent job of keeping kids entertained.

On any given week there can be as many as 80-100 passengers aboard celebrating a honeymoon (or part of a honeymoon: Disney + Cruise, etc.)

Besides, honeymooners won't notice much going onboard anyway [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img]

IMHO pick Mariner out of Central Florida.

You'll have Disney/Universal hotels plus your choice of Eastern or Western Caribbean.

I forgot to mention, that we had such a good time on the Southern run that we gave the same cruise to my daughter for her honeymoon. Offered it to my son and his bride to be but they decided to go on the Rhapsody in June and get married aboard. The whole family on both sides are going on "their" honeymoon. 44+ people. This is going top be fun.

Well, if it were my honeymoon I'd want to take a Hawaiin cruise that also went to tahiti and bora bora. I love the caribean, but for a honeymoon give me something exotic!

Just another thought... we got an 11 night Brilliance for about the same price as a 7 night on Voyager. The longer cruises have less kids... only about 35 kids on our April Brilliance cruise. Good luck.

ahhh tahiti is a good choice. didn't think about that. but i agree that going some place tropical and exotic is what a honeymoon should be. somewhere you wouldn't normally go on your own. this is your chance to go all out.

though i am not a princess fan, you might want to check into the tahitian princess for your friends. it sails the tahitian islands year round.

Southern Carib. on Serenade sounds great.. a little more "intimate" that AOS (and probably a different mix). You also might want to check into a Hawaii run since that's the time some ships are doing them before being positioned into Alaska for Summer season. I'd probably stay clear of the West. Carib. since some of the ports can be oppressively hot come summertime. vs. the southern route that has the tradewinds.
Have fun planning. If it's early May they should have more options of pricing than later.

The only problem with thoes exotic places like Bora Bora etc, is the very, very long flights. Not very good for relaxing. Also when you book a cruise over 7 days the passangers become older. I 58 and booked a 11 day to the PC only to find that we were the youngest aboard, that is a fact. When you go past 7 day cruise the people who book are mostly retired and the younger crowd won't waste 2 week vacations on a 11-12 day cruise. I want to be the oldest one aboard.

I think Serenade to S. Car. would be great. We did it on Radiance. A new place every day. Lovely islands, etc. And the Radiance class ships are very nice yet not too big. Only down side is getting there (Puerto Rico). My fiance and I (2nd for both) are getting married 8/05 and are doing the Mariner to west. caribbean. Since it is the 2nd time around, we are asking everyone coming to the wedding (Orlando) to join us. Think we have about 30 folks joining us so far. Should be fun. We are in the RS. Woo Hoo!

I think the southern itinerary on the Serenade would be a great choice! Absolutely loved the itinerary and the ship.

I highly recommend the Tahitian Princess for their honeymoon. We went last year for ours, and it was absolutely perfect!!!! Yes - the flight is long, but if you get Air Tahiti from LAX, everyone gets their own TV (including movie channels and video games) and free alcohol, so the time goes by surprisingly fast!! The cruises are also 10-days, so you really get to see the islands.

Hawaii would be an ideal honeymoon cruise.

If that's too long a flight,the southern carribean would be my next recommendation. Did that on Radiance and it was probably our favorite cruise thusfar. Wish I was back there right now.

A girl I used to work with went on an NCL cruise of the Hawaiian islands for her honeymoon. She said it was beautiful..very romantic sitting together on their balcony as they sailed past the islands. I don't recall the itinerary but I think the ship was the Star.

HOw bout the brand new Caribbean Princess with the huge movie screen by the pool where they show movies and concerts at night - AWESOME! Goes to St Thomas, Princess Cays and St Maarten - not sure bout itin in May 2005 - Check into it - No Kids!

Sorry hooked...they were unable to come last night...her Dad was taking them to a play...she had forgotten all about it...I believe they are coming on Tuesday of this week now...it is funny...he is my husband's new partner on the ambulance...and in conversation the first day...they realized that his fiance is in the same dental hygiene program at the school I just graduated from...same professions as my DH and I...just much younger!!! They are in their early 20s...just babies...so I'd like to help them find something nice that they can afford. I'm going to mention the So. Carribean to them first...see what they think...and then we'll try to find a ship they can afford. But I'm also going to print out this thread for them to read when they get here. Thanks everyone!
