New to Silversea

Aloha fellow cruisers. We are considering a South American cruise this winter on the Cloud. Previous experiences are with Sea Dream, Seabourn, and Regent. We do not enjoy the "formal" dressup, being from Hawaii.

On the Cloud, on those "formal" nights, can you enjoy dinner in a restaurant other than the main restaurant in less formal clothing?

Also, curious about the alternative restaurant that has an additional charge. How much is the charge, and is it worth it?

Many thanks for your input, and look forward to seeing you on board.

DJ & BJ wecome to the Silversea thread and Silversea.

On the cloud, their speciality restaurant, La Terraza...serves authentic Italian cuisine served a la carte for dinner. Casually elegant attire is

a formal night option (reservations are required). Mild caution..if your SA cruise has more than one formal night, multiple reservations may be

a challenge for La Terraza--you are assured at least one reservation per cruise. (however, on a nine day cruise, we have dined in La Terraza more than once by checking on a recurring basis with the Maitre D) However, you can also choose to dine in your suite on a formal night, with dinner served course by course (Robes optional).

The alternative restuarant is Le Champagne by Relais & Chateaux. A six course epicurian experience in an intimate setting. Fine wines are complemented

by a set tasting menu. Here is what the SS 2010 brochure says about cost:

When dining in the Wine Restaurant, a cover charge of USD$30 per guest (USD$25 under 18 years) will be charged to your shipboard account for Gourmet Dining. Wine selections from the Connoisseur’s List range from USD$50 upwards, and will be charged to your account. Silversea’s complimentary selection of wines is not offered in the Wine Restaurant. For the Dégustation Dining option, a USD$200 per guest fee includes the USD$50 cover charge, a set selection of five premium wines served by the glass and a select after-dinner drink. Pricing is subject to change at any time without notice.

We enjoyed our Le Champagne experience on the Shadow a few years ago (was $150 pp then) and fine wines were liberally poured with each course. Hard to savor the last glass of Joseph Phelps Insignia Cab, when you have previously had 2-3 glasses of other superb wine. You can choose the $30 per guest fee as an option and then order from their premium wine list..complimentary wines are not poured here. We plan on enjoying Le Champagne again on the Spirit in January.

Many thanks, sir, for your informative response. Most appreciated. My understanding is that the 16 day cruise has two formal nights so I would guess we would have to take our chances on reservations. Best wishes to you for a fine cruise.

In 16 nights, you may well feel like having dinner in the cabin at some point, so you definitely can make it a formal night. You can order from the menu of the main restaurant, so you don't miss the food.

Ladies can wear a nice pants outfit on formal night, and men a dark suit and tie if you don't want to go the tuxedo route.

We usually opt to dine at a restaurant vs. the suite because we like the service, but we have had dinner in our suite now and then and cuddled up to a movie, especially if we did too much touring or just wore ourselves out doing nothing.

Service at La Terraza is very good, and it is a fun and romantic evening.
