TA before or after QM2 refit?

Good morning

We have sailed on the QM2 several times but not on a Transatlantic. We are planning to do an Eastbound TA in 2016 with a few days in New York first and are not really bothered whether we choose a May or July crossing.

Does anyone have views on whether it would be preferable to wait until after the refit in late May or is that likely to be just cosmetic? We have not been on her for four years now so are not really up to date with whether she is in need of the refit or if it is being carried out just as a natural requirement every so often to deal with wear and tear matters.

I have read about possible alterations to the Casino/King's Court/Winter Gardens but none of those matters are of particular concern to us one way or the other. We are more interested in whether, dare I say it about our favourite liner, she is looking a little the worse for wear and badly needs the refit making July our best option when she will be all spick and span?

Any comments much appreciated.

Kind regards.

Peter

This is what softsands said after his September '15 crossing
... QM2 is in great shape with only the odd wear and tear issue here and there and are nitpicky in my view. The public spaces look like new, lots of spit and polish throughout the seven days. No complaints at all. ... In short, an outstanding first experience with Cunard.
I hope this gives you an up-to-date viewpoint from an experienced traveller :).

The only adequate reply is: Both!!!

We've recently heard complaints about QM2's shape and everytime that we are getting on board, we are pleasantly surprised how well she really is.

So if you can make it possible, go for the pre-refit crossing and take one afterwards as well;)

And keep in mind that there will also be added staerooms on deck 13, so only pre-refit you can enjoy the wide open and empty decks on the top like they have been originally designed!

We disembarked less than two weeks ago.

As has been stated, if you have the time to examine everything in great detail, then it's possible you might find the odd thing that doesn't look brand new.

No different to any top hotel.

Personally, I never have time to nit pick and think she's in great shape.

If you book the earlier trip, then you might be able to squeeze an extra one in later, no?

Based on our own experience I echo softsands comments that the QM2 is in good shape for her 11th vear, and I personally would not delay a trip for that reason, in fact this year we are also booked on a Nov QM2 cruise, my cruise critic round transatlantic voyage reiew for July/August 2015 is here if it helps:

Exactly. That's what we are doing.
