Conquest - conditions of rooms?

Can anyone who knows for sure tell me if/when the rooms on the Conquest have been re-furbished?

I'm getting the impression from a number of reviews that the rooms are a little "tired". Have they been updated any time lately? (Also hearing that a lot of the balconies are "rusty", but not worried about that as we are Ocean View). Any comments from the forum here would be appreciated.

And...is the smell of cigarette (and other!) smoke on the ship really as bad as some say...?

We were on Conquest last summer. It was our first cruise, so I don't have any other ship's cabins to compare it to, but ours didn't feel tired and worn out to us. As far as the smell of smoke, I can't stand cigarette/cigar smoke or the stale smell of smoke in rooms, etc. I didn't think the ship smelled like smoke at all. Sure, I'd smell it on passengers once in a while, but not the overall ship. If it does now, it's an issue that's less than a year old.

The Conquest goes into dry dock in late Sept. through mid-Oct. Aside from cosmetic enhancements to some of the public areas, it's also scheduled for "routine hotel maintenance." As it gets closer, Carnival usually talks more about what will be done, so keep an eye out. It'll also be getting a new serenity area, rumored to be very nice.

We got off the Conquest on May 7. I was expecting the ship to be in bad shape. Overall I did not find that. Sure some things are a little worn, but not dirty. I really didn't notice a terrible smoke smell. We had an inside cabin with a flat screen TV.

The problems I saw had more to do with technical issues. The cameras did not work so we were not able to turn on the TV to that channel and see when we were in port. There is was no room service ordering on the TV. You could not look at your S&S account or the menus on the TV. They said that part of the system was having problems. You had to check your account at guest services, through the app, or through the kiosks which were only working part of the time. This created long lines at Guest Services.

Also you were not able to download the app to your phone if you were already out to sea unless you purchased an internet package. So if going on the Conquest download the app before setting sail. You also could not look at the Carnival website to see what cruise you might like to book for the future since that didn't work either. They tell you that you can download the app through the free internet part of their system. But alas all of that is out of order on the Conquest.

We did a B2B on Conquest this past January. The smoky area would be in the casino.

Yes, things look a little worn so it's ready for drydock, but was not in bad shape. When we cruised in January, we had no trouble with the TV - menus, folio, ordering excursions, etc.
