Two Questions

Like the title says, I have 2 questions about my upcoming cruise (Carnival Liberty):

1. I understand that on receipt of our s&s cards we can request to get holes punched in them to attach to lanyards. Does the ship provide the lanyards or do we buy our own?

2. We intend to buy Cruise Cash and as far as I can tell we can buy a suitable amount every so often so its like a savings scheme and becomes a healthy amount by the time we sail. Where does this money get saved to, or do we receive some kind of credit voucher?

Thanks in advance

You will need to provide or purchase a lanyard.

You can buy CruiseCash in your Carnival online account. Log in to your booking on carnival.com, go to The FunShops, and select CruiseCa$h. You can buy it in $25 increments. It will be noted with Carnival and available to you as soon as you check in. I'm not sure with Carnival, but on some lines you are limited to $1000.

Yup exactly what they said. Last cruise I had a $400 credit and cruise cash. I didn't want to put too much on there because if you don't spend it you don' t get it back.

"Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

*Cruise Cash purchases limited to $500 per cabin."

We have purchased cruise cash/bar cash on many cruises, on the last night of the cruise we go to GS or the casino cashier and "cash out" our S & S account, we get everything left on the account back in cash, INCLUDING anything back from the amount left in cruise cash or bar cash. We have never not received it back in the last 5 cruises (as recent as this past December).

On sushine and vista we got free lanyards from the photo shop for downloading the hub app. They were much nicer than the ones in the casino

I will have to check this out.

The free ones in the Casino are not very good. I took one look and said thanks but no thanks.

If i remember correctly you had to do it prior to the ship sailing and be verified by one of the workers in the photo shop. Very quick and easy. Im not a lanyard person but i thought they were nice, plus my wife downloaded it anyways so she could see our pics on her phone.

 Just curious. Is there a benefit to buying cruise cash as apposed to putting charges on your credit card?

CruiseCas$h is like pre-paying for some of your expenses. Like everything else -- either pay now or pay later.

We did this with OBC back in 2010 or 2011. I'm pretty sure I learned about it here ;)

IMO if you pre-pay with cruise cash, cash, or debit card, they basically have your money upfront. If there is an issue with your billing (overcharge, erroneous charge, etc) you are now fighting from a weak position (the already have your money). If you charge it and there is a problem, you can always contact the CC company to dispute the charges, etc. Plus most cards have decent rewards programs (such as the Costco Visa...3% cash back on travel). By the time we are with a cruise, that 3% nets us about $150. All for doing something that is more convenient in the first place.

I am confused about the term "cruise cash" l have only cruised once, for that cruise I went to " customer service desk and put some money on my account and the grand kids account for them to use with their sign and sail card. The last night of the cruise I went to the desk and closed out the accounts. I still had some money in my account and received a cash refund. This was 3 years ago so maybe things have changed.

What you're referring to is just putting your own cash in your S&S account. That's still available. Cruise Cash is just a way to pre-order some credit online that'll be on your S&S account and ready when you get on board. You order it through the Funshops section of Carnival's site. It comes in $25, $50, $75, & $100 denominations. The big difference is, Cruise Cash is non-refundable (unless you're able to use the work-around method in Drazil65's post above).

When you get on the bought they offer a lanyard that has a little captains wheel on it and we thought nah we will get it later but then found out they did not sell it anywhere else except when you get on the boat - So if you like it buy it then ... Next cruise we bought ours right away

Funny part is we wore it on another cruise line because we liked it so much and kept getting compliments and asking where i got it until they read the lanyard and realized it said carnival LOL

Thought so. Is this why they put a hold on your card?

Right, if you have a credit card associated with your S&S account, they put a $100 hold on the credit card for 2-5 day cruises and a hold of $200 for cruises 6 days & over. If you exceed the hold amount, they repeat with a new hold. Or you can choose to put some extra cash in your S&S account. If you use up the cruise cash, it'll then begin charging the account using your cash.
