periotoneal dialysis solution storage

We (family of 4) are booked on Star Princess 15 days Hawaiian cruise. My sister and I are caregivers to our elderly parent on the cruise. My mom is a PD patient (using a cycler) and was told by Princess that the solution will be store in our cabin. We have previously cruised with HAL (3 cruises total of 97 days after mom is a PD patient) and HAL stored the solution in housekeeping or medical storage. The last cruise on HAL was a 14 days Alaskan cruise and there were 30 cases of solution (Cycler and manual twinbags in case of emergency) Baxter delivered to the port. I just can't see 30+ cases, luggages, wheelchairs and 4 of us in the cabin.

I took it for granted that all cruise lines will store the solution for us. Is HAL the only cruise line store the medical solutions? We have not cruise with other lines since mom becomes a PD patient. Please advise.

I have 5 days left to cancel the cruise without Princess penalty but will lose $100 cancellation fee with TA.

Thank you in advance for all your feedback.

Princess access compliance specialist, Kelly, is the one gave me the bad news. Which cruise line you use and did you store the solution in your cabin?

Grace

Do not require the need for such items rather was only attempting to assist directing you to the access department. Though you have already spoken to Kelly, I would try calling back and ask to be to Supervisor or perhaps ask to speak to a Resolutions Manager.

No handicapped cabin cannot accommodate quad occupancy. We need to stay in the cabin with mom and dad.

Grace

Fully understand that it's not an HC cabin but knowing what ship and what category of cabin would be helpful in determining if the cases can fit.

Store things under the beds and stacked in the closet. Most quad cabins OV/IS on Princess need to have the lowers apart because of the ladders. Visually this will give more room in the cabin.

Princess cabins are smaller than HAL's.

Could you book another cabin?

We cruised several times with Cunard (also part of the Carnival Group) when my partner was on PD, and they were happy to keep the fluids in a storage area and bring them up as required. We did keep several days worth in the cabin so as not to inconvenience the crew too much.

Hello,

That is what we did in HAL. We kept some cases in cabin so we only need them to deliver it every 3 days. I don't know why Princess is being difficult. Access compliance specialist said these solution is our "luggage" so it will store in our cabin.

Hello All,

Since today is the last cancelled date without any Princess penalty, we have cancelled the cruise. Princess won't store our medical dialysis solution and won't respond to my repeated emails. It is a big disappointment!

So far for sure I know HAL and Cunard do store the dialysis solution for their guest. If you know for sure which other cruise lines do store the solution for their guest (don't consider the solution as luggage per Princess), please let me know!

Thanks,

Grace

Sorry to hear about all the confusion with storage. My husband is on dialysis; go to clinic every other day. When he was diagnosed with renal failure we thought our days of cruising were over. BUT, there is a program that provides dialysis on certain ships. I know you do your own.....I'm just informing. HAL, RCI and Celebrity are the only ones we are aware of and its thru 'dialysis at sea' and fairly expensive...AND VERY LIMITED. BUT, we still try to cruise a couple times a year. God Bless You for taking your parents and providing them with quality and fun life. Judy Shame on Princess

My parent love to cruise and travel. My sister and I are blessed to have our parent still with us.

My TA was surprise that Princess does not provide storage as well since Princess is under the Carnival Corp.
