Thanks, but our cruise ship operator claims we need one in advance!

It looks like I'll be stopping in Doha en route to Abu Dhabi. from what I've read, you can do an "in-transit" visa online.

if in doubt, stay on board in Doha.

As others have posted, you can apply and pay online for either a visitor visa or transit visa. If you have questions, scroll to the bottom and you can email the ministry. Once you apply, tracking is available while it is being processed.
