From Paris to Venice by plane. Reasonable fare

Has anyone had experience buying plane tickets for Paris to Venice? We've been looking at the "seesaw" effect of prices but not sure if its the time to commit yet. What is considered a reasonable or 'average' price?

What should we be aiming at as good price?

Our flight should be on the 5th of July 2016. Evening time.

Have you looked at the budget European airlines, like Easy Jet, Ryan Air, etc.

I've had great fares with Jet2, ie $50 for Manchester-VCE or Milan, but I don't believe they fly Paris-VCE. The catch with those airlines is that they get you with high add on rates for baggage, seat selection, etc. But I pack light and don't care about seating on a 3 hr flight.

Try http://www.eurocheapo.com/ to get an idea of realistic fares.

By way of example https://www.ryanair.com/ are quoting 37 euros for your date (though that's morning), and as low as 20 euros a few days either side of your date and as high as 57 euros on some days.

Things to watch for:

- Broadly, but not always, prices increase as the date approaches and as seats book-out complicated by some days of the week being more popular than others.

- sometimes a remarkably reasonable fare one way is balanced by an OTT fare in the opposite direction. For your one-way ticket that might work in your favour or might work against you.

- In line with the Maple Leaf's comment about add-ons, you need to run a dummy booking right up to the point where you're asked for personal/card details, in order to see the total cost. Luggage makes a big difference. Ryanair's boss, Michael O'Leary, is one of the worst for add-ons - though the Civil Aviation Authority made him think again about charging to use the toilets ;)

- Ryanair (and often the other budget carriers) use secondary airports, and have a rather relaxed view about how far those airports are from the destination cities - possibly they learned their geography from cruise lines :rolleyes:

Beauvais Tille airport (BVA) is 54 miles from Paris, and Treviso/Sant Angelo is 24 miles from Venice, so check transportation availability & costs.

But safety standards & records are every bit as good as the major carriers, as are reliability & time-keeping.

I am not a fan of Ryanair. Also it goes out of inconvenient airports (out of Paris BVA and into Treviso for Venice) which is far. Better budget choices are EasyJet and Transavia. On July 5th EJ has 2 flights into Venice VCE from Paris CDG (9am - €46 and 7pm - €52) and 2 - from Paris Orly ORY for €58 (2:15pm & 6:40pm). Orly is closer to the city. Transavia has 2 flights into VCE from Orly (12:20pm @€51 & 7:50pm - €41). Both companies charge luggage fees but still fare is very reasonable. I never flew on Transavia but went on EasyJet many times and was ok.

We have flown EasyJet from Venice to Paris previously and will be using it again this summer. It flies into Orly not CDG

We have had good success with European discount airlines.

Just keep an eye out on the airport and on the fees-baggage etc.

We were in Paris last October. We went from CDG to town on Easybus. You do not have to be an air customer. We booked in advance and paid 2e each believe it or not. We have also used their service to go from Earls Court to Gatwick for the princely sum of 2GBP!

As for discount airlines. We have had very good success with Vueling and with Air Malta.
