Questions about cheers...

It is for the whole cruise. It is on sale the first and second days, and you need to pay the daily price even if it is a shore day. Lots of debate on these forums if it's worth it or not, it depends on your situation and what you like to drink.

Does it have to be brought for whole cruise or can I pick a coupe days out of cruise to use it...I know this is a stupid question but, I am just wondering how works...I tried reading on the site didn't help much.

From Carnivals FAQ:

The following restrictions apply:

Guests must be 21 years or older to purchase and agree not to give to minors.

Each adult assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the program.

Guests must purchase the program for the entire cruise - this program is not offered on a per day basis.

You can find the FAQ located on the Carnival home page/ bottom/ right side/next to last column.

I am trying to debate it says it includes all frozen drinks non alcholic as well and soda...I like to have a drink or 2 at night with dinner(only on a cruise not in real life haha) I will have to see.

If I purchase on Day two, for the whole cruise, will my drinks from day 1 be credited?

Seems like I've seen conflicting answers, or maybe the rules have changed.

Basically, I'd like to:

-Board the ship tomorrow.

-Enjoy a few drinks on day 1

-purchase the package once we're out to sea or day two to avoid the sales tax.

-Be credited for the earlier drinks since I've now purchased cheers for the entire trip.

Does it work this way?

There is no tax charged on Cheers, there is however tax charged on all drinks purchased while in home port regardless if you have Cheers or not. This was my experience sailing from Florida, I've heard there could be differences sailing from Texas.

I also have a question regarding the cheers program. Does the program include drinks purchased on half moon cay? My last cruise had all my beverages purchased there on my bill at the end of the cruise?

No, Cheers cannot be retroactively activated.

From the FAQ section of the Carnival website (https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1106)

Please Note:

  • Due to Texas State laws, we cannot sell CHEERS! until the second day of the cruise for voyages departing from our Texas home ports.
  • CHEERS! is not offered on 2 day cruises, charter cruises, on ships sailing from Australia (Carnival Spirit and Carnival Legend) and beverage purchases made at Half Moon Cay and Little Stirrup Cay in The Bahamas.
  • Guests can sign up for CHEERS! on board at the Atrium Bar, Casino Bar or at the mid ship pool area bar. CHEERS! cannot be purchased prior to the cruise.

Question!! How do you purchase it? We are sailing on the Magic out of TX so we can't purchase till day 2. Do we need to stand in line somewhere or any bar. Anyone have experience with this?

You'll know, they'll make it very clear. They really wanna sell it. :D

I was just checking through the Carnival info on the Cheers package. I knew that you would be charged the local tax on drinks purchased before we sailed out of NY. But, something I didn't know is that when sailing from New York, the Cheers package doesn't kick in until you are in international waters.

Can someone who used the package out of NY give me an idea of what the timeframe is from sail away to getting into international waters? Starting to wonder if I should wait and purchase it on day 2 and only pay for 6 days instead of 7.

Two years ago, we did an NCL cruise out of NY and used their drink program. This was when you could only get a drink package as part of a group. We were on the program the minute we got on the ship, and there was no sales tax added. Don't know if these new requirements have been applied since the cruise lines now offer all cruisers the option to purchase.

CCL website is pretty specific on Texas and N.Y. not allowing Cheers until day 2, look it up.

I did look it up. Here's what it says about New York sailings:

"Due to New York state laws, we cannot sell CHEERS! until the ship sails into International waters on the first day of the cruise. Drinks purchased on the first day prior to this time will be charged to the guest's Sail & Sign card in the usual manner."

It is only Texas where Cheers! can't be purchased until day two. My question is how long does it take to be in international waters? Thinking it might be better to purchase it on Day 2 and only pay for 6 days.
