Late September Sailings

Hello we are on the NCL Sun leaving Vancouver on 25th Sept 2017. We call at Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan in Alaska. Anyone got any ideas on what to expect with the weather (I know no one can predict exactly - but an idea) - wildlife -whales? bears? anything else?. We have booked the train at Skagway - but ideas or suggestions for other ports welcome. I think we are the only ship in all the ports - it could be the last ship of the season.

Also clothing? whats best to take

Any information gratefully received.

A little reading on the board would answer your questions.

Weather can become quite problematic. It will be colder, wetter. We had sleet on Labor Day a few years ago. There was a major wind storm, canceling several ports and doing some damage to cruise ships, just a year or two ago. But some will have experienced ok weather.

Clothing is, as always recommended here...layers.

Cruises late in September are cheaper for a reason...

We cruised Alaska in late September a few years ago. The weather was perfect. In fact, we swam in the outdoor pool in Skagway and Ketchikan.

The wildlife was very active. Tons of whales (humpback and orca), otters, seals and eagles. Also bears on the beach in Sitka.

We've cruised Alaska in July and September. We are doing September again.

Be sure to pack at least one pair of shorts and a couple warm-weather shirts. Here's hoping that you have fabulous weather!

You can be lucky.... then again.... September is statistically storm season. It's why cruises are discounted. Do you like dry weather or are you a storm chaser?
