Shore Excursions -- Alaska on Solstice in August

Hello all,

I enjoy reading the boards but I think this is the first time I have posted. We are taking our 9 year old to Alaska and I am looking at booking excursions. Has anyone taken either the

Mendenhall Glacier by Helicopter and Guided Walk (Juneau)

or

Glacier Landing Adventure by Helicopter (Juneau)

I am eager to hear about anyone's experience and I wonder what is the difference between the two excursions. Also, we dock at 1:30 and depart at 10:30, if we do one of the above helicopter excursions do you think we could do the evening whale watching?

We are also considering the

Dog sledding and Glacier Flightseeing by Helicopter (Skagway)

Misty Fjords Floatplane (Ketchikan)

Any advice in general would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.:)

Hi:) I have done the Misty Fjords Floatplane Tour with a private company

called Island Wings and highly recommend them. I have used them twice.

Here is a link to their website:

A few years ago I took the helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier (ship's excursion) and it was a wonderful experience. I cannot imagine any child not loving being able to walk on a glacier.

This year I took the float plane over Misty Fjords Monument with Michelle of Island Wings. I also did this a few years ago with a different company. It provides spectacular views of the mountains, lakes, and forests. The helicopter and the float plane have been two of my favorite excursions.

We have done 11 cruises to Alaska and are going again next year. We have done just about every tour offered in this part of the world. Michelle, owner and pilot of Island Wings is touted as the best pilot operating in Alaska, hands down. We have flown with her twice. Island Wings and the dogsled ride in Juneau on Mendenhall Glacier are the two top tours in Alaska. Everything else pales in comparison. Both are not to be missed!!!
