mwoody1967 Posted November 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2009 New to cruising and I was wondering how the lounges effect the rooms above and below them. Specifically on deck 6, at the back of the ship. Is it bad, doable, or no effect? Thanks.
gail811 Posted November 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2009 Depends on the ship. We had a corner aft on the Glory and had no issues, yet people a few doors down had a lot of noise from the club below. I know we could hear the music as we walked down the hall towards our cabin, so I know people had to be able to hear it in theirs. I would go for a deck with a cabins above and below if at all possible.
apdchief Posted November 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2009 If you have a choice of having rooms above and below you, you will be better off. That is of course if you don't have noisy neighbors. Also try to avoid being close to the elevators.

HoustonTodd Posted November 4, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 4, 2009 I don't have any experience on either of those decks Manetamers, but I'm sure someone will. As to the OP, I generally try to book 2 levels bellow the Lido. Good positioning in respect to most activities we are interested in, and rooms above and bellow keep sound from being an issue generally.
Nunu Posted November 4, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 4, 2009 It can be very loud depending on the ship. THUMP THUMP THUMP of bass from the lounge.
alphakitty Posted November 4, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 4, 2009 If you have a choice of having rooms above and below you, you will be better off. That is of course if you don't have noisy neighbors. Also try to avoid being close to the elevators. I'd have to disagree with this advice. I do book a cabin close to the elevators to minimize the walking and have never had an issue with noise. I agree, however, that passenger cabins above and below are ideal. For example: On the Spirit Class - 7A cabins (obstructed view). These are great cabins since they are a balcony at a bargain rate. But before you book be sure you know where the taller lifeboats are located. The first three lifeboats are taller then the others - which causes more of a view problem then the others. The remaining lifeboats hang below the balcony rail and cause less problems. The cabins with the taller lifeboats are 5142 - 5167 (best to be a couple more cabins back). Cabins 5168 - 5191 and 5224 - 5245 have the shorter lifeboats. Not that any of them are really bad. After all – how bad can a balcony be?Additionally 5236, 5238, and 5245 (all 7A’s) have very spacious balconies (extended length) for the same price as the other 7A's. I'm happy to see I've booked an extended balcony, 7A on Miracle! :) PVP insisted it was a regular sized balcony, but it looked bigger to me on the deck plan and I took a chance...happy to have confirmation. DEL67 Posted November 4, 2009 #11 Share Posted November 4, 2009 You also need to watch how close you are to the atrium. On the Glory we were "seranaded" every night by the duo at the atrium bar even though we were on deck 9. I did not mind it too much, but my daughter found it difficult to sleep. cruisinqt Posted November 4, 2009 #12 Share Posted November 4, 2009 We were on deck 6 on the Conquest and it was the worst cabin we've ever had. My husband and kids are heavy sleepers so they didn't complain. But I am a light sleeper and the noise from the Degas Lounge below us kept me awake for hours every night. I kept hearing people cheering and laughing at the late night comedy show that didn't start until 11pm. When you are on deck 6 then deck 5 below you is the promenade with lounges, theatres, bars, and the casino. That's the busiest deck on the ship and Carnival utilizes every one of those areas till the wee hours in the morning. If you're a heavy sleeper like my family is you're ok but if you're a light sleeper like me you will be miserable. I finally found some slight relief by going to the pursers desk and getting ear plugs. I hate to be such a downer but I've got to be truthful. I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. My favorite deck is deck 7 which is sandwiched between decks that are all cabins.

cruisetobeaches Posted November 5, 2009 #16 Share Posted November 5, 2009 Also try to avoid being close to the elevators. Or, right next to a ventilation room. we had a cabin next to the "ventilation" machinery room. It was not noisy in the cabin, but the bathroomm was another story! we HAD to have had the BEST ventilation in our bathroom on the entire deck. it sounded like a small jet engine running, so we had to keep the bathroom door closed to block the sound. The vent had incredible suction and there was never any "odor" in the bathroom and it was impossible to steam up the mirror no matter how hot you had the shower and it would hold up a bath towel if you put one up in front of it. For us, it was more 'entertaining' than annoying. We joked about it the entire cruise and it didn't keep either of us awake, or anything. But, if one were a light sleeper or could not tolerate the "white noise" it made, even with the door shut, it would be a problem. Regarding neighbors and noise, that is hit or miss. On our last cruise, our neighbors had a small child that fussed on occasion. The Holiday has paper-thin walls, so sound carries well. It didn't bother me until after we had been in Cozumel. Seems the parents decided to buy their child a drum in Mexico:eek:. After a couple of hours, dad took the drum away and we did not hear it again the rest of the cruise. Thank goodness!!! AQW Posted November 5, 2009 #17 Share Posted November 5, 2009 Thank you so much for posting this list. I had U299 booked on the Elation in two weeks and my daughter would have been devastated if we couldn't push our beds together. Chairs and "stuff" are drug around on these decks and the sound is so annoying....especially, if you like to sleep late [the pool area and decks with chairs on them, are washed and set-up very early!] The galley is used and set-up very early for breakfast, etc. Have you ever heard a pot dropped on your head? If you can avoid these decks, do.....however, if you don't spend a lot of time sleeping or are getting the most phenomenal deal, go for it! ladywendolyn Posted November 5, 2009 #19 Share Posted November 5, 2009 I used the feature called serch this forum and searched our ship name and room number. Sure enough a few posts showed up with people who had stayed in that room and they had mentioned it was quiet. There may not be posts on every single room, but it's worth a try as C.C. has been going strong for a while and there are posts going back for a while. After all – how bad can a balcony be? Additionally 5236, 5238, and 5245 (all 7A’s) have very spacious balconies (extended length) for the same price as the other 7A's. Cabins 6232, 6234, 6281, 7258, 7260, 7303, 8232, 8234 and 8239 also have larger (longer) balconies then cabins in the same category. Cabins 5238, 6234, 7260, and 8234 are handicap equipped. Keep in mind that if you book a handicapped cabin (more spacious – wider doors – larger bathroom) and you are not handicapped, the cruise line has the right to move you to accommodate the handicappedcruiser. This may not work out in your best interest. Be sure you know what you are getting into before you book one of these cabins. You should not knowingly book a handicapped cabin unless you have a need it. On the Triumph, and Victory cabins 6424, 6451, 6432, 6459, 7416 & 7419, shaped like an L and are regular Cat 8 cabins. The interior of the cabin is a little smaller with 1 queen as opposed to the 2 twin/king but the balcony is at least twice the size of the regular cat 8 for the same price. Same on the Destiny with cabins 6336, 6344, 6363, 6371, 7316 & 7319. Conquest class: Cabins 2470 and 2473 are 6B's but are about 310 sq. ft. and have 2 windows. Cabins 6442, 6473, 6450, 6481, 7434 and 7439 are larger and have longer balconies then their counterparts. 7228 is a Cat. 11 suite that is handicapped accessible and I’ve been told it is huge as the white area forward of the cabin on deck plan is actually part of the cabin. Please reserve only if needed. How can we add to the list! Fantasy V8- noise from gym. Splendor 9260 - noise day & night due to crew stairway next door. Done :)
MsSoCalCruiser Posted November 8, 2009 #21 Share Posted November 8, 2009 Rockportgirl, Do we have any "jewels" to add for the Paradise? I'm trying to decide if I should change my room. Thanks so much for your post!
SeaMeSmile Posted November 16, 2009 #22 Share Posted November 16, 2009 New to cruising and I was wondering how the lounges effect the rooms above and below them. Specifically on deck 6, at the back of the ship. Is it bad, doable, or no effect? Thanks. I just got back last week from my cruise on the Valor, where I had one of the L-shaped cabins with the extended balcony (room #6481 ~ deck 6 ~ to be exact) that are located almost at the very back of the ship. When I realized it was over a lounge and next to a crewmember stairwell, I was a bit concerned about noise ~ especially since I'm a super-light sleeper. Well, I'm happy to report that noise was never an issue, and neither was vibration from the ship's propulsion. This cabin was perfect in every way, and if the opportunity comes around again, I would book it (or one like it) in a New York second!

Thanks so much for your post! Sorry, I don't know anything about Paradise. Have you tried searching your room number? Try it in this thread... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
DorthyGale Posted July 4, 2012 #24 Share Posted July 4, 2012 I love your attitude! We are staying in a room next to a service room of some kind so I am reading about the possible 'quirks' that our room may have. Our attitude is similar. If it is a pantry and crew are making things for early risers, we are early risers so we will probably be some of the cruisers asking for some coffee brought to our room to have on our balcony! Thanks for the positive info! lol
