BillB48 Posted June 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2017 The Panama Canal marked the first anniversary of the opening of the expansion yesterday, just one year ago and over 1500 ships later. A short video marking the various milestones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2w2JkZ1EZQ
Rare h20skibum Posted June 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2017 Nice video. The Disney ship looks small in there. This month's issue of Civil Engineering Magazine has a nice article on the Panama Canal Expansion. One thing I found interesting was the amount of the old equipment from the building of the original canal that they had to remove as part of the dredging component of the project. The article says they had 171 diving operations, with the old equipment hoisted from the canal bottom at night so as to not interfere with canal traffic. All in all, just an amazing engineering feat, both for the original and the expansion project. Sent from my iPad using Forums
