When a royal suite isn't that royal (Oasis)

 Share

Recommended Posts

I'm currently booked for my family of 4 in an Aquatheater Suite (A2) on an upcoming cruise on Oasis of the Seas. I've been watching the prices and I could upgrade to one of the new Royal Suites for a relatively small amount. Reading some of the concerns in this thread I'm not sure if it's really an upgrade or not. I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on this. Pictures of the new Royal Suite seem very hard to come by. Thanks in advance!

This thread has pictures on RS 1701 at post 184. This is the larger square footage cabin over the other RS. Don't be fooled by the first photo as the balcony is not as long as it appears. You can see the person taking the photo in the balocny divider reflection, so it appears to be twice as long. I only caught it as I wondered why would there be 2 hot tubs on that balcony???

Hope it helps. I also made a few comments at post 193 about the new RS.

Andrew thank you so much for pointing me to the pictures and comments. The cabin interior looks amazing! Deck would be a huge downgrade from what I have but the hot tub would be a definite plus. Thanks again! I'll be sure to take a video of the cabin if I decide to move to it!

No worries Kevin. I have been to ND a few times on the drive from Ontario to Alberta. Mainly from Grand Forks to the Canada border on the way to Winnipeg. Wide open country. Very beautiful, but not so nice in the winter I bet.

So you understand my EscapeND user name:) I just noticed we're both on Oasis of the Seas on the 29-Aug sailing! I look forward to meeting you in person! FYI, I just called my travel agent and pulled the trigger on moving from the A2 Aquatheater Suite to the Royal Suite 1701!

Wouldn't you really want to escape now, not in August?

EscapeND, now that your cruise has completed, were you able to take any videos or new pictures of the new Royal Suite (1701 or 1758), in a year to be Owners Suite Loft w/ Balcony and Grand Suite Loft w/Balcony (may 2016 cruise +). I dont know how they can call it a loft if it doenst have one, but RCCL has been a little weird lately. Ive heard RS and RSL are escorted on by Concierge? Is this accurate?

I do have pictures and video which I'll post by this weekend. We booked 1701 since it was larger. While we were on the ship we did get a chance to walk through the other Royal Suite and there's really no comparison. 1701 is the one to go with.

When I booked I was told that we were been bumped to VIP status but honestly I didn't notice any change to our level of service. The Concierge did escort us onto the ship or to our cabin. Not a big deal for me but would have been a nice touch.

There a several issues with the Royal Suites which you should consider prior to booking them. I'll elaborate when I post the pictures/video.

Kevin, Thanks it will be nice to see some new pictures/videos of the suite since the only ones are stock photos. No big deal if the concierge escorts or not since there is a group of us in other suites too.

It's too late to consider as were booked and paid In full for May. I know I've heard the bathroom is wide open, but there are only 2 of us so not concerned about that but also heard the jacuzzi is not totally private from deck below. Anything else is greatly appreciated information so I can prepare. We are in 1701 also.

Thanks

Yes, the bathroom is wide open and if you have the blinds open you can wave to all of the people on the deck below:) My wife and I had two of our kids with us and there's no door between the master bedroom and the living room. With only the two of you, no worries there. The hot tub is not private but we still enjoyed it and used it often. There were other issues but even with all of the faults this suite is stunning! You'll find it VERY impressive and it has a much more modern feel to it than the Royal Loft.

LOL Ill be sure to wave!! How big was the hot tub? People wise (2, 3, 4?) we are cruising with others. Does it have an ipod connection in the entertainment center? Like a plug to play music? Did you get alot of people checking the suite out from below that you noticed? I wouldnt want to put on a "show" or anything. Thank you for the information, they are so new there isnt much out there on these new RS which theyre re classifying next year. Looking forward to your pictures and video. What were the other issues? I heard there are alot of outlets for stuff (computer, phone chargers, razor, hair dryer, etc)

Here is a link to my first YouTube video to show you guys what the new Royal Suite really looks like since pictures are very limited and video non-existent to this point. Sorry the video quality isn't perfect but our GoPro was accidently erased. Thankfully I took video with my phone as well! Not as good but does the job.

Very nice, Im thankful you took this video...even saw the guy looking in from below...lol...on-lookers may get more then they bargain for when we're there....and if RCCL says anything, Ill tell them their the ones that built it semi-private...lol Definitely modern look/feel...looks like they even gave you a PS 3 or 4 on the entertainment center. Hot tub looks like 4 max and that may be crowded but 2 for sure. Tub looks huge. Thanks again ND for posting. I know the old suite was more private and bigger (could care less about the piano). The only thing I would think would be a "let down" would be the deck size in comparison and the privacy. Upside would be the modernization, looks high tech with the light panel thing...

Yes the modern feel was very nice. Your assessment of the hot tub and balcony are spot on. If your sensitive to noise bring ear plugs. It didn't bother me much but my wife thought it was a bit noisy. You'll also smell the breakfast in the concierge lounge from inside the master bedroom. That was my signal to wake up in the morning:). One tip is when you close the blinds in the master bedroom they don't close completely due to the pole. On the third day we pulled the blinds around the tv and that seemed to keep the early morning light out. You'll have a great time! Enjoy!

Thanks for the great video escape ND. Beach towel clips would also help to keep the curtain together in the master. The carpet was a nice addition to the rooms as well. The raised washroom in the master is unique, as well as the washroom view to the outside. Did that create privacy issues with the outside world? Did any of you trip going to the washroom in the middle of the night?:)

Sadly we have had to cancel the cruise that we were going to be on together, so hopefully we will meet on another sailing.

Hi Andrew! Just catching up on CC. We had to keep the curtains closed when getting ready in the mornings but didn't have any issues with the steps as there was light. Too bad you cancelled the August sailing on Oasis. I was looking forward to meeting you. We're booked in a crown loft right now but we may upgrade if one becomes available. We're headed to San Juan 3 weeks from Thursday to do a southern Caribbean cruise on Adventure of the Seas. You could always jump on that one:)

Hi,

I am posting this primarily as a fyi for future people searching about the new royal suites on Oasis. I had posted a few weeks ago looking for information on the new 17th floor royal suites on Oasis. The problem arises in that when you click on deck plan you see the new plan for 17 which has the two royal suites-#1701 and #1758 along with the generic description of the "old" royal suite i.e., 1284 sq feet with 345 balcony. I had originally questioned this because the deck plans just didn't seem "right" to me that both of these could fit (or be close) to this description.

Well now I have found out if you click on "printable deck plans" a new pdf comes up with specific descriptions of both of these new royal suites. It indicates #1701 is 1250 sq feet with a 172 sq foot balcony and 1758 is "only" 972 square feet with a 163 sq ft balcony. Now I know a 972 square ft room is still huge--my point is they are advertising both as royal suites and using the old description of a room with a huge 345 sq foot balcony-which neither has. Further if you get #1758 you are presumably paying the same price as the people who get #1701 and you have 25% less room. Lastly, the balcony's are half the size of the the old royal suite at 163-172 square feet.

So again, more of an fyi for people doing research and hopefully the deck plans description page is updated soon to reflect this drastic difference in rooms.

Thank you for clarifying. We are sailing on the Oasis of the Seas ( first time on Royal Caribbean.....we usually sail on Princess) next year for our 50th Anniversary. We have booked The Skyloft Suite #1720 and I am concerned about the balcony space as I am reading different postings. We may have 50+ people joining us and we want a large room and balcony space. Do you know the difference between Suites 1718 and 1720?

As promised here are a few pictures of 1718. These picture are from Oasis. This cabin does adjoin with SLS 1720. We have never heard any noise from the adjoining cabin door.

Balcony area. At the far end behind the glass divider is 1720's balcony.

Main level.

The main level washroom is behind the dining room table, where the artwork is hung. If my memory serves me correct the downstairs washroom has a single head and rain head. Toilet and sink as too.:) The door to cabin 1720 is on the right. The TV is to the left and is just out of the picture.

View towards the sitting area, from the dining table location.

Bed area.

The upstairs washroom is behind the wall to the right of the bed. The upstairs washroom has two shower heads as well as a rain head. The safe is upstairs.

Cabin 1718 has the quiet ocean view balcony. It is long and narrow. The interior of the cabin is a bit darker in the day time as it doesn't have as many windows allowing as much light in. All of these pictures for both cabins were taken on sunny days, so as you can see the one cabin is brighter than the other. Since 1718 is a bit shorter in length you don't get as much of the "airy loft" feel compared to 1720, but honestly unless you had seen both you would have no idea that there was a difference. If you enjoy a quiet time on your balcony this is the cabin for you.

the downstairs bathroom does NOT have a rain head shower, only the upstairs bathroom.

It does on the SLS on Oasis and Allure as it is double in size over the downstairs one in the CLS. CLS does not have the rain head on the lower level. It is a smaller washroom.

I am having the same issue as chfenton only for Allure. We are booked in 1701 in August 2016. It is listed as Owner's Balcony Loft but I get different descriptions and sizes in different places that I search. Does anyone have up-to-date information and/or photos of that suite?

You're right. There's very little info about the Royal Suites. The best (and only) video I've found for suite 1701 is:

I'll be on one of the first Royal Suite Class cruises in May in in suite 1758. There's a good video for this suite on YouTube also. I hope to post a few good photos when I return.
