I have never stayed in a hotel or been on a cruise ship that required a card being in a "slot" by the door in order to control the lights. I have learned something new! I do like the idea of a light above the door in the hallway which alerts the cabin attendant that you have left the room! (Hopefully he/she will clean it while you are away?)
I guess this is a "feature" on newer ships. The Carnival Magic had when we sailed her, and more recently the NCL Breakaway had it. My guess is that the cruise lines are adding it to the newer ships to try to cut down on the amount of fuel they have to burn.
A hotel key card also worked on the Breakaway.

I finally made it to a highspeed scanner. Please find them all, in order, at this link:

Thank you for doing this. It's an immense help for our trip planning.

Thank you for your review and pictures. I was actually not that excited about my upcoming NYE Miracle cruise but your review brought the excitement level back.
My wife and I took our first NCL cruise a few month ago and really enjoyed it. We took the Breakaway from NYC to Bermuda. It was very enjoyable. The people in Bermuda were really nice and Horseshoe Bay is now my favorite beach.
I really enjoy your pictures. I have been using an EOS M2 because it is so easy to carry. I recently ordered an SL1 from the Canon refurb store for under $300 and am looking forward to trying it out.

We would appreciate it if you could post pics of the daily planners.

I'll be posting a full review of my cruise this weekend... including lots of photos, a few videos, and scans of many documents including the Fun Times.
We are looking forward to your review, especially your pictures.

I think it will be interesting to see what adjustments they make for Asia.
Will there be a Chinese Hairy Chest contest? Wait, why do they still do that activity anyway? The last time we saw it, there was a fat old guy in a Speedo with a mullet. That was definitely the last time for me.

Who was the Cruise Director on your cruise?
Thanks

We overnighted in Cabo a couple of years ago. It was a nice change, but we thought that Cabo was pretty quiet on the weeknight that we spent there.

How did bringing soda on board in ports of call evolve into this discussion?
Welcome to the internet. :)

There's a difference between complaining directly to a corporation and complaining on a cruise message board.
Do you really think that Carnival--or any other multi-million dollar corporation makes changes like that due to the whims of a few posters on a message board?
And don't give me the same old "there are thousands of Cruise Critic members"----it is usually the same few that complain about every change that Carnival makes---not "thousands."
I don't know about CCL, but we were recently on the NCL Breakaway and the Captain, Hotel Director, CD and Head Chef attended the Meet and Greet. They said that the opinions of Cruise Critic members were very important to them. They asked for feedback and criticisms during the cruise before posting negative comments on the board.

Thank you for your pictures. That was our debarkation day on the Breakaway.
We sailed on the Splendor many times when she was on the West Coast and it's good to see that the ship is still in great shape.

Wow, we boarded the Splendor right after getting married next door on the Queen Mary when she was still on the West Coast. She is always one of our sentimental favorite ships.

Seadog,
Your report has been so timely and thorough for us.
I woke up this morning at 7:00 thinking the Breakaway would already be docked. We are staying in a riverfront room at the Residance Inn by the way, and saw this:

Thank you for doing this live report.

Thank you for posting this. We especially appreciate the dailies.
The last set posted from the Breakaway were done in May.

Did you guys have a back up plan in case the ship didn't return the next morning? I really want to do it but I'm afraid that all night long I would be thinking and worried about the ship not being able to return.
We probably would have stayed in Cabo for the remainder of the week and flown back to LAX. The other choice would have been to fly to the next port. Puerto Vallarta in our case.
The other thing is that Cabo was pretty quiet the night we were there. Not what we expected.

We visited Cabo recently on the Norwegian Star, and we overnighted in the bay with tenders running all night long.

That must be something very new, as the harbor has been closed at night in the past. As I recall, something like 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

We spent the night in Cabo San Lucas a couple of years ago. When we boarded, we went to guest services and they took a copy of our passports.
We stayed at Melia on Medano Beach (pricey, but it was an anniversary night)
That evening, we watched our ship sailaway and spent a very nice evening in town.
The next morning, we were very glad to see it return when the harbor opened.
It was fun to do once, but I don't think we would repeat.

Thank you for a very nice review.
Are there Zumba classes on the ship? When I did a Google search, there were posts from a couple of years ago that they had classes in the Manhattan Room, but I didn't see anything recently.

Last year on our glass bottom boat tour, we noticed that there were not many fish. Our driver said that hurricane odile had reduced the fish population.
Hopefully, things will recover quickly.

My wife is Platinum and I considered trying to get grandfathered under the old ten cruises rule, but the truth is that we don't feel Carnival loyalty perks are a factor for us when we choose a cruise.
On our last cruise, the VIP lounge was standing room only, priority tendering was cancelled and the platinum gift was the baseball cap.
Low price is our decision point for Carnival.

I understand that the Bridge of the America's is quite low and some of the larger cruise ships won't be able to pass under it. I'm not sure if the Splendor will clear it.

Thank you for your extensive review. You answered all of our questions (and we have alot!)
We are booked for another New Year's Eve cruise on the Miracle and didn't know what to expect after the recent drydock.

Thank you for your review. It's looking great.
We would appreciate it if you could take a picture of the daily schedule (page 4, I think). There are some great ones from 2014, but updates are appreciated.
