  1. Hi,

Something that I have encountered more recently, which I think is a good thing, is when I return to the ship and go through the security I have had my scooter swabbed for illegal substances.

    Pete

Thank you for mentioning that. I had not seen anyone say anything about this before and when they had me wait before I got back on the ship, I didn't know what was going on. Finally someone came and swabbed my chair arms. Then I understood.

However, it would have been nice if I had known it was going to happen. I was not upset about it though. It just takes a few minutes.

  2. There is a new Days Inn in Galveston on the West side. We have stayed there several times and it is available a year out for around $85+ - free cancellation. It is clean, free breakfast and wifi, only complaint - the walls are a little thin, ask for the top floor. We park at EZ Cruise Parking for $48 - $54 a week if booked on line - price depends if you want to use the shuttle or walk the couple of blocks.

    Carla

That's where we stayed before our cruise last week. It was nice. I have it booked for next year also.

The trick to getting good prices is checking as soon as they start taking reservations and when the rate goes down reserve it. We only get rooms that we can cancel without penalty.

  3. Did they allow people to take on 6 packs of soda ( Dr Pepper etc) or did they refuse them?

How about a case of water?

We were on the Liberty last week and had no problem taking a case of water. We carried it in our carry on. We saw one lady in the terminal with pushing a cart with at least 2 cases of drinks and maybe more.

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  5. Sorry, don't know about wheel covers but am interested in how you like your wheelchair88 foldable chair. Can't really find many reviews online. How long have you had it and what do you like/dislike about the chair. Thank you for your comments in advance.

I don't have a wheelchair88 but I do have an EZ Lite Cruizer and I believe they are similar. Mine folds and is light weight too. I just returned from a cruise in which I used it. It was the first time I used it on a cruise and I really enjoyed it. If you have any specific questions, you can contact me at mistshar@ymail.com.

  6. We just returned from our Liberty cruise yesterday. We had no problem embarking or disembarking. There was a delay embarking because the cruise before us delayed but not sure why. They told us when we checked in that they would start embarking about 1:30. However we got on about 12:15.

Disembarking was fairly quick for us too. We got off at about 8:30 and got a port attendant. He took us right to the customs agent. There was 1 in front of us and then he took our luggage across the street to VIP Parking. He was wonderful.

I was in a wheelchair so our boarding may have been a little different than most but it seemed like everything was going fairly well.

  7. I, too, had frozen shoulders. It is terrible. I went for physical therapy and just could not handle it. I researched on the internet and found a book about pressure points that could be pushed and it would relieve it. My DH did this on my shoulders and it was amazing how much they improved.

I told my therapist about it and she was going to try it on her patients but I don't know how it turned out. Anything that helped with the pain is wonderful.

I hope your shoulder improves by the time you go on your cruise. We are leaving tomorrow to go to Galveston and get on the Liberty of the Seas on Sun. So excited!!!

  8. Can anyone help me out? We are renting a car at Hobby driving to the cruise port and keeping it all week so we have it when we disembark the next Sunday. It was actually cheaper to do this since I have a discount on the car rental.

Where is the best place to park? I was looking at Galveston Park N Cruise , they say you can walk across the street to the Terminal 2 (RCCL terminal). Can you really?

If not where is the best place to park?

    Thanks,

    Steph

Park N Cruise is almost right across the street. We have used them twice and they are great. We used the inside parking.

However, there is another place, Galveston VIP Cruise Parking, that really is right across the street at the red light where you cross to go to the Carnival terminal. The RCCL terminal is further down to the left. We have parking reserved there for Sun. They are more expensive but parking is inside. They are a little more expensive.

We parked at VIP once before but it had other owners at the time so cannot really comment on how good they are now. Hoping they will be good.

I imagine either would be a good choice. It is nice to just get off the ship and walk across the street, get in your car, and leave. We don't like using shuttles.

Hope this is helpful for you.

  9. It depends on whether you are getting off on your own, or need assistance. We were on Liberty in February, and did self disembark. We talked to guest relations before hand and they said to just go to where the self disembark was taking place and tell them that we would like to get off as early as possible to avoid the crowds. Our son is in a power chair. It worked out perfect. We were the first off the ship. I would just go to GR and ask them what you need to do.

Thank you! That is what we would like to do. We will check with Guest Services.

  10. I know that people who get a wheelchair to get on and off the ship go to a special area to wait for disembarkation. However, I will be using my own electric wheelchair.

Where do people go to wait for disembarkation when they have their own wheelchairs?

We will be leaving on the Liberty of the Seas on Sun.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

  11.:confused: You have to pay for soda or iced tea? WOW that could get very expensive with 6 folks... How much is a soda? And a drink package is that alcohol...we don't drink so just wondering.

Iced tea, juices, lemonade, and milk are included. The soda is, I believe, around $3.00 a can. I'm not sure of the exact amount. The soda drink package is $8.00 a day per person and you are not allowed to share.

Someone else may be able to add to this info or correct it if I am wrong.

  12. We are due to cruise on the inaugural Ovation 3 nighter next Wednesday.

However an elderly uncle died on Tuesday and we still don't know the date of his funeral, but, it looks like it may clash with the cruise.

We would never miss his funeral but our insurance would not cover the death of an uncle.

Here is the bit I am unsure of, these 3 nights would have made us Diamond plus. So would we still achieve that even if we don't turn up for the cruise? We would be too late to cancel and get a refund.

Also, should we cancel or just be a no-show?

    So sorry for your loss.

My feeling is that you do everything you can to help and be there for the family before the cruise but don't miss the cruise. As others have said, he probably would not want you to miss it.

Hope everything works out well for you.

  13. I have emailed requests prior and it's been 5 years since I've cruised with RC so I completely forgot about email requests for MDR table assignment requests. Emailed last night for upcoming April 10 departure. Got a response from Marlene early this morning that my email was forwarded to the vessel (Mona Gutierrez).

My question is should I be expecting a response from Mona Gutierrez as well? I read through this thread and I thought some people said that an email confirmation was received by Mona. So I am not sure to expect another response or not.

I received my response today for our 4/17 cruise on the LOS. It came from

Marlene Prieto, Administrator Restaurant Operation. It had been forwarded to her from Mona Gutierrez.

I hope this is helpful for you and have a fantastic cruise.

  14. Thank you OP for posting. I just found out I have diabetes and our cruise starts 4/17. I have been wondering about a lot of things concerning food. My problem is, I am a picky eater to start with.

Also thanks to all the poster for all the helpful information. It has been very beneficial.

  15. I booked an accessible cabin for our upcoming cruise in April with no problem. I believe I had to fill out a form but it was no issue. Since then however I got a mobility wheelchair and will be using it most of the time on the ship.

I hope you get it all worked out. If you need an accessible room, don't give up. Keep trying.

    Good luck!

  16. Just as a side note - we just checked in to Liberty of the Seas, I carried on 2 six-packs of soda bottles and they didn't even question me. Just sailed on through. It's spring break and everything, so another experience to report!

Thank you for your report. I am glad you didn't have any problem.

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  17. If you read the rules, they say that you are not allowed to bring it on. However in the next sentence, I believe, it says if you do bring it on it is subject to be searched to make sure it is not alcohol. So it is contradictory.

We took some Dr. Pepper onboard on our last cruise. There was no problem. You never really know what they will do.

I planned to take Dr. Pepper on our next cruise in April but found out I have diabetes. So I will probably carry some water and hope they let me carry it on.

  18. What is it called?

There are 2 of them. One is Park N Cruise and the other is Galveston VIP Parking. Park N Cruise is about a block away and has inside as well as outside parking. VIP has only inside parking. VIP is on the corner by the red light and is the closest one.

  19. I am sorry your wife is sick and hope she gets to feeling better quickly. However she should go to the dr. to confirm she has the flu and get her something to help and also get you something in case you get it.

Please let us know how this turns out and if you are able to go on the cruise, I hope you have a wonderful time.
