  1. Getting ready to book our next cruise. Can anyone tell me how to get a guaranteed pool type lounge chair on our balcony? Do all aft balconies have a lounge chair? We spend most of our time on our balcony and we want shade and at least one lounge chair due to husband's back and hip issues.

    Anyone?

    Tia.

I'd suggest getting an Aft Wrap / Vista Suite for the best chance of getting a lounge chair AND shade.

We had an aft wrap for a B2B on the Dream with a 36' wrap-around balcony and had two lounge chairs, two normal chairs and a table, plus shade and privacy on the side portion of the balcony.

The Aft only cabins can be very, very hot with no shade, offer zero privacy and occasionally get litter from the decks above. I'm surprised that they can charge a premium for them....

  2. The 10 million number was for Carnival Corporation ships, of which Carnival Cruise Lines is a part of. That number is not relevant to this discussion...The link to the 4.5 million number does not work...

Here's a working link to the 4.5 million number:

    http://www.carnival.com/legal/environmental-reports.aspx

And yes I agree, the 10.5 number is not broken out by cruise line, that's the reason I didn't use it in my calcs.

  3. While I understand the math part, I have no idea what your post means...... what is 4,500,000 and as high as 10,000,000?

AFA "what does my post mean" I am using the 80,000 number YOU provided and dividing it by the number of passengers served by Carnival to express the number of Platinum passengers as a percentage of the cruise population.

Carnival provides the 4.5 million number here:

    http://www.carnival.com/legal/environmental-reports.aspx

The 10.5 million number comes from here:

    http://www.statista.com/statistics/266274/passengers-of-cruise-operator-carnival-corporation-und-plc/

The rest is just math. BTW can you provide a link to where John Heald provides the 80,000 number? I'd be interested in seeing this.

  4. 80,000 platinums means they make up less than 2% of the Carnival cruise population (80,000 / 4,5000,000* = .0177).

You can spin the numbers any way you want, but in the end, platinum cruisers are a small percentage.

*- 4,500,000 self reported by CCL, other sources have the number as high as 10 million.

  5. I will certainly have DH call our PVP and ask for sure. I didn't know that they were going to start doing this in Galveston.

Sometimes, when he's very excited and in a situation that can be kind of overwhelming for him (as waiting in a crowded terminal waiting to board can be at times), he melts down because it's just all too much for him to take in at once and he's incredibly excited. Meltdowns are not fun for anyone, especially him, and if we can check in right away that's usually best because at least it gets that part over with. About 95% of the time we can manage to keep him busy/distracted until we board but still..there's the off chance that he might melt down because he's SO freaking excited and overstimulated, yanno?

If you can't get special treatment from Carnival AND you're really concerned about your son, I'd suggest getting to the cruise terminal late.

As others have suggested, arrive after 2:00 (assuming a 4 P.M. departure) and you should not encounter any lines and can be aboard the ship in 15 minutes.

    Good luck!

  6. The port area was ok...nothing but shops and bars, and we found the vendors there to be very aggressive....we only stayed in the cruise port for maybe 45 minutes, bought the kids a few souveniers, then we took the tender back to the Glory, and spent the rest of the day by the adult pool in the very back of the ship. My least favorite port of both cruises...would probably never go back to Belize again, or I should say, wouldn't even get off the ship there.

hmmm, we took a water taxi over to Caye Caulker ($20 RT), did some snorkeling, then hit a great beachside restaurant/bar for lobster and lots of cheap drinks. A totally wonderful time!

  7. Just curious where all the people are that just went to Amber Cove? Why isn't anyone doing a review? I'm going in a couple of weeks and was looking forward to reading some reviews.

One needs to remember that Cruise Critic members only make up maybe 2% of the people on a given cruise, of that only 20% can be considered "active" (posting more than once a month) and of those, I doubt 10% would actually write a review (I wouldn't).

    So there are probably 1.3 people that may write a review (3400 x .02 x.2 x .1),

  8. And keep them empty for passengers to use. It would cut down on the Room Steward's workload, and eliminate erroneous charges.

Does anyone actually eat/drink that stuff anymore? The prices are crazy and God knows how long they have been in there.

Clean out the mini bar fridges! It won't cost Carnival anything to implement that and will probably save more money than keeping it stocked and constantly inventoried. If people want snacks or drinks, they aren't that far to go get.

We use the mini-bar quite a bit, AFA "crazy" prices, I'm happy to pay an extra $1.00 (if that much) to prepare a drink in my room and enjoy it on the balcony. If you want to walk to a bar every time you want a drink to save a dollar, go right ahead, I'll be on my balcony.

  9. Friends with a person that works with my wife said they cancelled there cruise on the Vista and got there money back because they said they were scared of what is going on in Europe. Do you think there is any truth to this story?

How would anyone on CC know if the friends of your wife were "scared of going to Europe" and got their money back? I'd suggest talking to them...

  10. As to the statement above, its nice that your spouse enjoy his job long enough to earn his stripes etc., but it was the job he chose just like the police and fire fighters and other people that are in similar careers, they all choose their jobs and take the risk....I don't think the OP was purposely being disrespectful to your spouse by suggesting the costume, they probably never even gave it a thought truthfully....

Really? I doubt you were ever in the Armed Forces of the US... or a policeman or fireman. As a Vet, who thankfully has all his parts in working order I doubt it highly....

as to the OP, DUMB idea.

Drazil does have a legitimate observation about the nature of the Armed Forces today; it is a choice. Choosing a profession where people try to kill you has it's risks... Anyone entering the service in the last 40 years has done so voluntarily knowing these risks.

Oh and yes I'm a vet, did six years in the Navy punching holes in the ocean on a sub.

  11. There are Android apps (and probably Apple ones too) that calculate sunrise/sunset based on your GPS location. This would be a bit more accurate than the Funtimes.

Why do you think an app would be more accurate than the info printed in the Fun Times? Everything on the bridge is computerized, including GPS, so surely the sunrise and sunset times are exact when the Fun Times goes to print every day.

I guarantee a GPS derived Sunrise/sunset is more accurate than the FunTimes mainly because the ship is moving. I doubt they can predict the location of the ship with 10 meter accuracy for next morning's sunrise when the FunTimes is printed around 3 p.m. the day before.

Please note I also said it would be a "bit more accurate". Heck going from the Promenade to Sky decks changes sunrise times by 10 seconds or so. Do you think the FunTimes takes that into account?

  12. I just want to go already!!! We are sailing on our first B2B on the Glory in a fabulous scenic ocean view cabin in March (yes, more than 200 days to wait) and the wait is killing me!!!!!! Anyone else planning a B2B who have stories, advice or cautionary tales to share with me?? I wish there was a B2B category on CC so I could read - read - read to help get me through the next 200+ days! :p

We've been on three or four B2B's with another one planned for early next year. 99% of any B2B "Hints, Tips or Secrets" are just common sense.

  13. A cabin available but when you call carnival they say it's not? The same cabin has been available then cruise is sold out then this same cabin available again when doing mock bookingson different days . It's frustrating !

Next time you call Carnival you should ask them as to why a specific cabin is available on the web site yet is not available over the phone.

To expect a better answer from this web site is madness.

  14. Hi guys. I just want to add something that happened to me this past Aug. 2 while embarking on the Liberty in San Juan. It was me and my daughter sailing and I had brought a 24-pack of soda cans (12 cans each). They stopped me and said that I was not allowed to bring in the cans packed that way (in their original package none the less). I had to show up with the cans divided and that we had to each carry on 12 cans separately....

... why do the cans have to be divided between the two persons if we are traveling together?

It's their ship and their rules. To expect someone on the Cruise Critic forum to know the answer is a bit unrealistic. Perhaps an email to Carnival with this question would be better?
