Bedroom area in a G2.
I was surprised to see the bed is smaller than a penthouse bed .
The G2 bed measures roughly 64 x 75 inches.
The penthouse bed measures 76 x 75 inches.

On another thread, Poss requested photos on a category G suite, from those of us onboard. Here are a few pictures of a G2. This is the table and living room.

This thread has changed topics, and is no longer about suite 684.
I have located a couple onboard in a G suite, and will obtain photos tomorrow.
I will post them on the Random Notes thread, and hopefully help with your concerns

On another thread, on June 29th, Randall Soy talked about computers onboard. In that thread he said ".......I heard back from the shipyard regarding comments on the number of computers we will have following some feedback from CC members. We will now have 4 stations in the business center enabling guests to print boarding passes etc.. and it will be attended by the manager to offer any necessary assistance."
This is true, but not the end of the story. In addition to the 4 computers available in the business center, there are 2 more computers in the very back of the library on deck 11.

Here is the small "room" at the end of the corridor. To reach suite 684, you would need to go thru this door to reach the entry door to 684. The suite is to the right; the gym is to the left.
Both gym doors were propped open this afternoon.

Here is the main entrance to the gym, on deck 5 at the rear of Canyon Ranch. Again, no handicap access.

Here are the steps, after walking from the hallway on deck 6, past suite 684, and thru the second doorway. This view is from the gym, looking back at 684....

Do you think the three steps would be ok to maneuver with a walker if you had help? My mom uses a walker all the time but goes to the gym three times a week at home; would be nice to be able to continue that aboard.
thanks,
Marc
Hi Marc
I will post a photo so you can judge for yourself.

On another thread, Jim B asked Randall Soy "Will there be night lights in the bathrooms so you do not need to turn the lights on during the night?". His question was not answered.
Here is my observation: no. Our bathroom (penthouse A), as deluxe as it is, does not have night lights, nor a dimmer. We brought a light from home, and I am glad we did. The configuration of our bathroom is that you have 8 feet from the bathroom door to a second door to the toilet alcove. It is pitch black with the lights off. And, if the door to the toilet is closed, you could have a problem if you walk into it. The door swings outward, and it might be closed, might be open, or somewhere in between.
The good news is that the shaver plug is powered at all times. On some ships this plug is not powered if the lights are off. So, we plugged in a LED nightlight and it works well.
You will not need any night lights in the bedroom area. There are so many electronic gadgets in the suite that have power indicators, that the suite is crisscrossed with sufficient illumination. These include the TV, dimmer switches, and cordless telephone. Plus a fair amount of light seeps under the door to the corridor.
If you are sensitive to sleeping with light, you might find yourself covering some of these items.

Also is the traditional "block party" still happening? or has that gone the way of the dinosaur? It was one of the things that I loved about Regent!
We are a little confused on the Block Party. On embarkation day, the Passages had a section on page 6 "Dates for your Diary". The first item was "Shipwide Block Party, Thursday, July 21, 6pm". However, the Passages on Thursday did not have it, and no party happened.
We are hoping this was a misprint as to the date, and we will get a party later in the cruise. July 21 would have been a bad choice anyhow, since we were in port until 8pm.

Our cabin is quiet with respect to not hearing voices or TV from the adjacent cabins. We do however clearly hear doors closing next door, or across the hallway. The doors are heavy, take a good effort to latch, and the self-closing springs are robust.
Having returned from the gym this morning, I noticed the gym door (across from 684) bangs closed with gusto. I agree that I would think twice about 684.
As far as handicap access, that is a problem. Once you go thru the door, there are 3 steps, and no ramp. The doors are manually operated.
The door to the corridor was propped open today.

Why do they ask for your cabin number? Surely they don't think you are stowaways!
They are doing this on all of the ships.
This is so that the servers may great you by your names.

Thanks to you all for answering my questions thus far :)
Another one is what toiletries/amenities are in the various levels of suites?
Still L'Occitane & Hermes?
Hope the MV is going well and that all the luggage caught up
Hermes is history, so I am told by my butler.
In our suite (penthouse A), we have 2 new toiletries
1. L'Occitane Mistral
2. Guerlain Eau Imperiale

Our copy of Passages (for tomorrow) was just delivered. Trivia is indeed being held in the Observation Lounge on deck 11.
Entertainment tonight is soprano Laura del Rio (no relation to Frank).
Entertainment tomorrow is Spanish guitarist Vincenzo.

A previous thread on CC at the end of May indicated that Regent were re-thinking:

"A little bird shared with me that there will be bars adjacent to both Chartreuse and Prime 7.
Tea will be served in the observation lounge. And no word yet on where trivia will be held (but there's plenty of choices!)"
This leads to another question:
Are tea & trivia both in the Observation Lounge?
I hope I can answer your questions.
Since this is day 1, we have not had trivia yet. But we have been told that trivia and teatime will be held in the Observation Lounge.
We had dinner at Prime7 tonight (one of the best meals on any Regent ship). At the entrance to both Prime and Chartreuse there are small lounges with seating for 10-20 people. It looks like a waiting area while others in your party make their way to dinner. They probably don't have a dedicated bartender, but the restaurant's bar staff would attend. I will check out the staffing later.

Here is the view from the breakfast buffet at the Fairmont. Judging from the thin attendance at breakfast, I would have guessed that there are not many of us at this hotel. However, there are 4 buses to shuttle us to the ship.

Hi Rich. We are also headed to the airport tomorrow morning. It will be a somber experience to arrive into Nice. But we are looking forward to being the first revenue guests of the long-awaited Explorer. Hope to see you onboard!

I'm so used to writing "EST" that I'm not even sure if "EDT" is the correct designation for Eastern Daylight Savings Time.
Yes, it is. That is the official designation for our current time.

H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco will be the the G-dmother for the Explorer. The christening will take place at a black tie gala on July 13, 2016 and the entertainment will be provided by Andrea Bocelli.
gnomie :)
Regent will have a live video of the Christening Ceremony:
The time given is 3pm EST. Since the eastern US is currently on Daylight Saving Time (EDT), 3pm EST is ambiguous. Maybe the Regent spell checkers will sort it out and give the correct time before the event.

News reports today indicate that Regent has taken official delivery of Explorer in Genoa.

It was Daniela and Margaret making steak tartare vs Glen and the other chef whose name I don't remember making lobster risotto. The lobster risotto won, but the tartare was pretty good. It is just not my thing.
Assisting Chef Glen was the executive concierge Jeffrey Potts.
