  1. So . . . After starting this thread I am now on Anthem. No 6 to 5! One dealer on Harmony emailed that it was 6 to 5 fleetwide, but here on Anthem a dealer said it is being "tested". So if you see 6 to 5 blackjack payout on any ship -- complain! The 6 to 5 odds really hurts the player and gives the casino, another advantage.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Lady Hudson: Any bet that gives a player less than true odds, which happens to be most bets, hurts the player and gives the casino a huge advantage. That is why I like to play craps and stay only with certain bets. Those bets either pay at true odds or close to it. In any casino game the house will win most number of decisions. If you could play true odds you will play close to the house most times unless of course, you have bad luck.

  2. Just off MSC Divina - no craps on any of their ships

    Safe sailing

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO spidybabe: Most European cruise lines don't have craps tables. It is not a big game in Europe. The most popular table game in Europe is Roulette. Anyplace that caters to many Americans will have craps. Some don't. Also, a craps table costs a lot to have open.

  3. Actually it is worse than just 6 to 5.

For a $6 bet, they pay $7, instead of the $7.20 actual 6 to 5 payout.

So for each BJ on a $6 bet, you lose $2 ($7 versus $9 payout).

That said, I made $120 playing the last cruise, on small betting. And I had a lot of fun.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO SRF: You are on vacation. The object is to have fun.

  4. While minimally better, if you bet at least $15 on the pass or come, you can take the following odds:

    $15 on 4 or 10

    $20 on 5 or 9

    $25 on 6 or 8

Also, if you are betting at least $25 on the pass or come, you can take double odds on RCI ships (at least that has been my experience).

    Good luck!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Otterman34: What line or lines that does that? That is a better than advertised game. However, there are some players that do bet more than that, at least initially.

  5. Oh yeah, continuing the beatings, RCCL offers single-odds only on craps.

(FWIW, NCL was 3-4-5 and Princess and HAL were both double-odds when I sailed with those lines.)

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Big_G_111: Any of the six lines owned by The Carnival Corporation has 2x odds on the craps table. RCCL only offers single odds. Still, even at single odds you have a better game that at anything in the casino. NCL and Celebrity offer 3x-4x- and 5x odds. The higher the odds at craps does not necessarily make it a better game.

  6. It seems like cruise ships and the LV strip have pretty much ruined BJ. It looks like I might just play the pass line on craps my next cruise.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Tutontow: Sounds like the way to go. Also, take the odds. The odds on the Pass Line and on the Come bets as well as the Don't for each of those bets are the only bets in the casino that pay true odds.

  7. I was on the Dawn last summer after the refurbishing. The craps table felt had been replaced with what I can only call a sponge. I have a nice light role, which I could not keep on the table (no one could). If you drop a die two feet off the table it would bounce back into your hand.

We are going on the Dawn in two weeks. Anyone know if this felt has been replaced or has it been worn in?

    Thanks

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO prwardi: Don't know if they replaced the sponge on the craps table, however, don't roll the dice high and have them bounce earlier. The sponge will keep the dice going toward the end of the table.

  8. I heard a rumor that Carnival no longer counts table game play as part of your casino rating.

Only slot play for comps and other perks.

Please comment on this new rating.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO johnny75: This is not true. Last year we, my wife and I, went on the Carnival Vista. Within a couple of days I received a drink card from casino management. During the cruise we received offers for specialty restaurants, and/or bottles of wine. After the cruise received special offer for a bounce back cruise. Of all the cruise lines Carnival has given me the most of any cruise line. That said, we don't take a cruise because of what a cruise line may or may not offer. We go because we like what a particular cruise line does.

  9. I have some friends that are going on a 10 night Canada & New England cruise that leaves from New York City with stops in Newport/Rhode Island, Boston, St. John/New Brunswick, Halifax, Sydney/Nova Scotia, Charlottetown and overnights in Quebec city.

They have no idea on which excursions to book and since they are always listening to me talk about how wonderful this community is, they asked if I could ask the expert's (that would be you) what their favorite, not to be missed, excursions are. Also, if you have any that you think should be avoided please share that too.

    Thanks so much in advance!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO MsSoCalCruiser: In Boston you could visit the ship the USS Constitution. Also, if you like baseball, visit Fenway Park. When in St. John they have the world's highest tides and lowest tides, there is the reversing waters, the oldest marketplace and there are some parks nearby. Also, you could visit St. Andrew which is a place that was established by people that lived in the colonies that were loyal to the British Crown and moved after the Revolutionary War.

In Halifax they have the Canadian Immigration Museum right near were the ship terminal is located. There is Peggy's Cove, but, that is over done today and is very crowded. You could walk along the Harbor Walk, there are lots of places to purchase souvenirs, coffee shops, resturants, and the Nautical Museum which you can also get to on Water Street. You can walk down Water Street. There is the Citadel, and the Botanic Gardens. In Sydney, walk around the town. It is most interesting. The best Tim Horton's Coffee Shop I've visited is in Sydney. If you like Casinos visit the one on King George St. Hotel/Casino of Nova Scotia. There is also one in Halifax on Water Street.

When in Charlottetown there is a lot to do near Queen Street. Visit the place where they had the meeting to form Canada. Visit the stores at the quay near the pier. Must visit: Cows ice cream. Some of the best ice cream in the world. There is one in Halifax too.

  10. I have a question about demographics. Our family had cruised with Carnival around 7-8 times about 15+ years ago, and then switched to RCL (although we also cruised with NCL 2X and Celebrity 1X -- didn't care for either). I'm now mid-60s, widow cruising solo. I have a cruise on RCL and will be trying HAL next month. Am I outside Carnival's demographics now? I probably wouldn't cruise mid-summer or during Spring break.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Truluv: Have seen many seniors on Carnival cruises. You will not feel out of place.

  11. Sorry, but what is a junket company?

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO nancydow: A junket company is a company that specializes in arranging gambling junkets. You go and have to play for a certain number of hours in the casino. They usually have gambling junkets that go on cruises and to different hotels at different gambling venues.

  12. I hope this isn't a stupid question ...

Do any cruise lines offer comps to gamblers from other cruise lines casino programs? (I thought I saw it referenced a while back, but I can't find it.) I am Golden with NCL CAS (hoping to make VIP next week); are there any other cruise lines that would offer me a comp cabin for my first time sailing with them?

    Thanks in advance!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLOOOOO nancydow: You must go with another cruise line that is in the same family. Carnival owns six cruise lines, NCL owns two I think, RCL owns two. MSC I think stands by itself. Then the Casinos are operated by the same contract company and they would make the offer.

  13. Will be looking for a special cruise (probably for early 2019) and Princess is most likely to be our choice of cruise line. Is it best to book soon after the cruises are released, or would we be better waiting for a while in case better offers come up? We are likely to be looking at something involving Panama or perhaps something in the Far East.

If booking early is the way to go, could anyone give me an idea of when the early 2019 cruises are likely to be on sale? The P&O ones are out already, but I don't seem able to search beyond Dec 2018 on the Princess website.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO tring: My rule of thumb is to book as early as you can. You have more of a choice of what you are able to get. If you wait for a price drop then you may only get whatever is left over. You also can change your booking if you see something else that comes along that you like better.

  14. Would love to hear some opinions. Is it a floating shopping mall? Crowded and impersonal? Easy or hard to meet people? Debating between this and the Sunshine, same itinerary except Sunshine will not got to La Romana.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO gardn198: Been on both ships. There is more room to walk around on the Vista. The theater is the same type. A lounge is obstructing your way on the Carnival Sunshine from a dining room so you must go up to walk around the lounge. It is easy to meet people on any ship if that is what you want to do.

  15. Ok, here goes...

I'll be on the Valor in 8 weeks. I have a few quick questions for anyone that has been recently. It's been a few years since I went on a cruise, and even more since out of Galveston.

How is the action on the craps table? I remember the Carnival ships usually had $5 Min, and the awful x2 odds for pass line bets. I'm curious how the table was? Elbow to elbow, table to myself, slow newbie action, or just your run of the mill craps action?....

    Thanks in advance.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO chut_da_chut: On all six lines owned by Carnival Cruises on the craps table it is a $5 minimum bet with double odds. It is not so bad. On RCCL they allow single odds. Celebrity and NCL have 3x-4x-5x odds. Two times odds aren't so bad. How many people play depends on the trip from cruise to cruise. Don't know about the poker tournaments. Do know they use a poker pro which is almost like playing at a slot machine. The best game in the house is at the craps table.

  16. We are cruising on the Sunshine for the first time at the end of April. I've been looking at the pictures of the Liquid Lounge. Is this their main showroom? It doesn't look as grand as ones we've seen on our other cruises. It looks a little sad almost like they forgot to put one on the ship so they just gathered a bunch of chairs and sat them on the floor! Is this correct?? Calm my fears! Thanks.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO TBMVette: The Liquid Lounge concept is so they can use it for other things besides the shows. Play games, use it as a nightclub. However, when they take chairs out and place them back in sometimes they have taller chairs in front and shorter chairs in back. Then seeing the show may be a problem. Because of this there are no tables to put a drink on. So you either hold your beverage or don't get one.

  17. Does anyone have pic'of this cabin.I think I may have picked the wrong cabin from what I am hearing this cabin is smaller than the other aft cabins

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO MooNGaTe27: We sailed on the Carnival Sunshine. Never again. Our stateroom was also smaller than we had been led to believe and we didn't have a couch in it either. When they gave the Destiny a makeover, then rechristened the ship, into the Sunshine they added another deck but no more space. It gets very crowded walking around on the ship. You have a ship designed for 2,000 passengers now holding more than 3000 passengers. They didn't add more space. There is the Limelight Lounge near a dining room. If you have someone needing a walker or motor scooter then you could have problems since you have to go up or down to another deck to get around the lounge. Try walking around on the deck where the shops and galleries are. Very difficult. Have a relative that loves the ship though.

  18. I'm trying to decide which cruise, they both leave the same day, both have the same itinerary, just different ships leaving at different ports....Vista {Miami} of course is newer, but Magic{Port Canaveral} had a makeover in 2016 any opinions?

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO citcat1: Been on the Vista last year. The theater is not good. Carnival food is about the same from ship to ship. I think the Magic is a Dream Class ship. It will have more room on it than the Vista does. The Vista is larger, but, doesn't have the room that you would have on Dream Class ships. Lots of places are bottlenecks and are hard to get around.

  19. Very good report. Later this year we, with my wife, are going on the Regal Princess. Looking forward to playing at the craps table. Since Princess Cruise Line seems to have bouncy tables. A little harder to deal with, but, will try it out. Have you sailed on Cunard? I like the table on the QM2. Not that much bounce.

  20. On our HAL Veendam cruise last year the craps table was gone and replaced by Pia Gow table that was never used. Now I'm hearing that the Oosterdam will soon be losing her craps table. So no craps table and lots of high minimum card tables with no one playing.

On the Veendam they told me the ship was going to Australia and they don't play craps there, so out went the table.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO cruzincurt: We were on the Veendam several years ago. They had just taken out their craps table. Was informed by the Casino Manager that many of the smaller ships will not have a craps table in the casino. Have counted nine of the "larger" ships have craps tables.

  21. I'm going on my first Celebrity cruise in May. What are the usual table minimums for blackjack and craps?

I've usually seen $5-6 table minimums for blackjack on past cruises, but just got off a Royal Caribbean cruise and they only had $10 minimums. I can afford to play at that level but prefer my gambling budget to last longer so I didn't give them any play. I know RCL owns Celebrity too so hope that wasn't a company-wide change.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO iambumbo: Congrats on going on a Celebrity Cruise.I am afraid that the minimum bets in the casino are $10.00 now. At least that has been my experience.
