  1. I've seen them provided to other lines, while I've been on them and also other lines that have been in Port the same day we're there on Oceania. Businesses can't sell to people that aren't there.

Spain has very low taxation on wine and, of course, is a major producer. In the UK, we have high taxation on booze. It's approximately 30% of the price of a bottle of wine. But, even so, I can buy a 125ml glass of Californian wine at a local restaurant for under £5 ($6.48) including all taxes and no tip required.

I think the average pour here is a little bit bigger.

    Yes, that is correct.

Well now wait a minute. They have been known to offer an upgrade at less than the going rate, but on a case by case basis, and generally where it will benefit them. You can also offer less than the going rate for a room above your level, whether they take it or not is another matter.

I've also read comments where people asked at Guest Relations and were able to upgrade for less than the going rate. I've personally never tried it.

But as a rule there is no system set up where you can bid for upgrades like some other lines.

And the relevant extract from O's website (which does, indeed, make mention of "casual" jeans).

"Recommended on board clothing is resort or country club casual. For evening dining, elegant casual resort wear is suggested. We request that casual jeans, shorts, t-shirts, baseball caps, sandals, or tennis shoes not be worn in the restaurants after 6 PM. Baseball caps may be worn in the Terrace Café after 6 PM.

Yeah, it kind of seems like whoever wrote that for that TA website was trying to rewrite the Dress Code to suit what they think it should be, as we've seen so many people do here over the years. It's pretty simple.

    From O's website:

    Is there a dress code?

Recommended onboard clothing is resort or country club casual. For evening dining, elegant casual resort wear is suggested. Oceania requests that jeans, shorts, t-shirts or tennis shoes not be worn at dinner. Shorts and other more relaxed clothing are perfectly acceptable for shore excursions, but be sure to check that there are no clothing restrictions for your time on land (some monasteries and other sites require head coverings or demure dress).

Just for the record for those that didn't see it over the weekend. This is from a Travel Agency website and NOT Oceania's website.

Do you have a link to this? My Oceania website doesn't have that at all, must be in a different place than Frequently Asked Questions.

Since this seems the case, why does "O" advertise shuttle service as a service at post ports.

That's one of those marketing things. Just like many Travel Agencies like to advertise the perks available to everyone as some special they're doing, O is just as guilty for taking credit for providing shuttles in their marketing materials, but let something go wrong or people not be happy about the shuttle service then Guest Relations will be the first to tell you they have no control over it, it's provided by the Port, local town, etc.

So to summarize:  Shorts are fine during the day and long pants are recommended in the evening.

Not necessarily, Shorts are specifically mentioned in Currents as being OK to wear in Terrace in the evening. Many people can't get past the old time thinking of no shorts in public after 6. That ain't this cruise line. But most dining venues do require long pants in the evening.

Most lines just have a no shorts rule after 6pm.

    Oceania has no such rule.

Don't overthink it. Shorts are ok anytime anywhere on Oceania except for evening dinners, with the exception of the Terrace. Shorts are ok and allowed at dinner there. They are not allowed at Tea, Captain's Reception, and Repeaters Party, although I have seen them then. I've never seen any restriction concerning the evening show, most people wear what they wore to dinner, so if you wore shorts to the Terrace you'd probably be OK.

I'm not overly surprised. Tilbury is a good hour's drive away from the centre  of London. Oceania might describe Tilbury as "London" but it isnt really. They do the same thing with Southampton which always causes me to chuckle.

On one cruise we were on the port stop for London was Dover. Wasn't a bad bus ride.

Yes as pinotlover says  they do serve various course at one time. However, we have had many shared tables with some people going through the card and others just having a couple of courses, but because you are with other people you tend to chat and don’t really notice the wait between courses. On the other hand if you are really unlucky, we never have been, and nobody speaks to each other the meal could drag!

I've been in both situations. More frequently with nice conversation but a couple of misses. Once with a Mother and Daughter that any conversation was like pulling teeth, and then those that the conversation they wanted to have wasn't exactly what I would prefer.

Thanks for posting this @ORV  I don’t know if you remember us but Adam and I met you on that fun sailing with Jan and Stu that was diverted from Bermuda last spring. We are still very knew to O and appreciate these tidbits of information.  Our next O sailing is Oct 3 so I’ll be looking to see if there’s anything we’d like to book and take advantage of this perk.

I do remember. I think we had dinner in Red Ginger, or one of the other restaurants.

We were just in the new Silver Trident Winery Tasting room in Yountville CA for a wonderful tasting flight with a potato chip pairing. Of course the Benevolent Dictator was poured, see the set up from the table in the picture.  We had a wonderful Red Blend and the Cabernet Sauvignon was also Great. We met Bob, the Proprietor as his business card said, there several months ago. We joined the wine club about a year ago so we can not pass thru Yountville without stopping for a “Splash” as Rebecca and the others refer to their tastings. He is no longer affiliated with Oceania but definitely welcomes Oceania cruisers if he is in town. You will recognize the replica of Riviera along with all the Ralph Lauren furnishings that adorn the Tasting Room.
    Stop bye and enjoy,

When you say new, is this different from the one they had a few years ago? We stopped there for a tasting I think back in 17 or so. Had a great time. What picture are you referring to?

Thank you Cruzin Terri! We will be on board Riviera in about 3 weeks and the cruise we want to book on the Allura for 2026 already went up $200.per person and that for a 10 day cruise. Nothing is ever a guaranty but we will act quickly if it’s a good promo!

Are you aware that you can get onboard booking perks 30 days prior to your cruise? Ask your TA about this.

  15. Next up, I've seen it mentioned multiple times about going by the restaurant and seeing empty seats. I really shouldn't have to explain this, but I'll try.

For those that have trouble with seeing empty tables when they happen to go by and think they have openings, mull this concept over.

Let's say there are 25 tables in Polo, if they fill all those tables at the 6:30 slot and the average dining time is approximately 90 minutes where are they going to seat those that have a 7pm, 7:30pm or 8pm reservation?

One starts by READING what O says about their own processes and procedures and whether they tell cruisers up front that some animals are more secretly equal than others. I have NO problem if O wants to state what it actually does. But I do have a problem when I'm LIED to and deliberately so, all to potentially benefit one class over another

    • Here's some reading as to their processes and procedures, it's plain as day that they tell you right up front, SPEND MORE, GET MORE. As far as being deliberately lied to, I have no idea what you're going on about with that. I don't understand your beef.
