  1. I don't know about the Cellar itself, but I know it wasn't accepted in the machines at all.

As far as me cheating. Yes I did cheat. I will admit it. Am I bragging, no, I'm just making a truthful statement about my experience and I can tell you that a lot of other people were doing as well. The whole discussion was whether or not purchasing the package was worth it. So I was just elaborating on my experience. To each their own. I dont think I was "stealing" from the cruise line. Frankly, most of the bartenders knew what I was doing and didnt give me a hassle about it. I had no issue using my own card if need be.

    Edited to add:

Cheating...Inst it cheating if you bought the drink package and cancelled it and then bought it again when it went on sale?? Thats "cheating and bragging" too.

Your comparison there is pretty fuzzy thinking.

  2. We are going on our first cruise in MANY years in November. We are trying to determine whether or not we should buy beverage packages. We drink very little and were thinking about bringing the allowable two bottles of wine onboard to drink on our veranda before dinner. We generally drink a lot of regular water all day long and are planning on bringing collapsible water bottles to use onboard and on excursions. We might want an occasional cocktail or specialty coffee, but I am thinking that we may want to "pay as we go" instead of buying a package. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Karen

I think you've answered your own question. You should simply drink the supplied drinks, tap water and pay for the occasional drink as you get it.

  3. I'm thinking of buying one of the alcoholic beverage packages. Can someone tell me how much the Foo Foo Drinks are, i.e. pina coladas, grasshoppers, mai tais, etc.

    Thanks:confused:

Don't know exactly but they are somewhere from 7-9 dollars.

  4. I am curious about the availability of the fresh squeezed OJ. When I was on Infinity this past fall the only place I ever saw it was at the brunch. Of course I wasn't really looking for it very hard as I didn't have a package then. Is it in the buffet? MDR? Also how about getting Mimosa's or Bloody Mary if you're having breakfast in the buffet or MDR?

Anyone have any insight on this?

  5.

There will also be, for package customers, barrista coffee drinks, such as cappuccino and latte and espresso, and tea that is higher grade than what is offered in the dining rooms. Cova Cafe seems to be the central resource for these package beverages, just like there will be juice in the dining room and buffet but there are fruit smoothies and fresh squeezed juices available to package customers.

If you care about having the high end options then considering a package might be worth it. They aren't JUST for booze!

Thanks so much for all the info! It is much appreciated.

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate thread but I have a question re: discounts/sales on drink packages.

I've booked on the Summit for November 2012. I already plan on purchasing the Premium package. I've seen on other threads where people have gotten a 10% discount on their drink package purchase. Is this something that is offered often? Are emails sent out announcing the sale or should I just keep checking the website to look for the info?

    Thanks!

I think it's only been offered once. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

  6. Plus they seem to limit any better wines and more expensive drinks.

I don't know about the wine but I've read that the spirits include all but the very top end. I'll find out sometime next week while on board which ones are excluded. If it doesn't include the better single malts I doubt I buy it. If you are drinking cognacs and scotches that are $15 to $20 a pour it could add up fast, a couple of those, a glass of wine with lunch, another for dinner, a beer or mixed drink in the afternoon and you're well over the $50 a day per person.

  7. I was told by the Celebrity rep that if you didn't purchase it the first day and decided on say day 3 they would charge you the price from day 1. Is this correct?

    Thanka

No, by all accounts he/she's wrong and they should be retrained or reassigned to some job where they can't be giving out misinformation.

  8. You asked for specific examples of the failures of CHOICEAIR. Here's just one of many, and it's a great one. Basically, the cruisers missed their cruise because of CHOICEAIR. Their tickets had severe restrictions that other tickets, presumably those purchased directly from the airline, did not. The CHOICEAIR tickets, unlike the tickets purchased directly from the airline, were non-endorsable and non-reroutable, so the cruisers missed their cruise.

I only skimmed the 5 pages of that and while Choice Air was mentioned I'm not 100% sure the OP actually booked through Choice Air. Is there any one post you can point out that shows they did?

  9. They are not consolidator tickets. The fare code is the same as I would have if I bought them myself. For our next trip we purchased fully refundable tickets for less than even the airline was selling non-refundable tickets. These are applicable to the rules of the airlines just as if we had purchased them ourselves. With ChoiceAir, there is a window of 14 days total for arrival several days early and/or several days later. In our case, we saved about $100 total on the tickets (true, not a large sum compared to the full cost of the tickets), were able to chose our flights and seats, and are flying in three days early and coming home three days later.

Keep in mind that the ChoiceAir program has been upgraded in recent years, so some of the doubters could be talking about the old program.

Also note there is not a deviation fee to change your arrival or departure dates as there is with most cruiseline air.

  10. do you know where the smoking areas are on the infinity?

One of them is on deck 10, on the port(left) side of the Sunset bar, right below these pictures. That is the only place to smoke cigars or pipes, unless it's been changed with these rooms here now.

The other place is deck 10 by the pool, on the port side also I believe.

  11. So who is supposed to be on the Regatta right now?

According to Oceania, it's Willie. Maybe somebody aboard Regatta at the moment could verify.

According to the documents I just got for our May 3rd cruise it says the CD will be Nolan Jenkins.

  12. I'm fairly sure that what you call the "first largest" and "second largest" balconies are the same size, and the "third largest " and "fourth largest" are also the same size. We were in 1605 and our friends were in 1601 and they were identical in size.

Some of the hump cabins have cabin attendant service closets in front of them, but I believe that it has already been determined that this does not affect the size of the adjacent cabin.

Also, I don't think that any of the sunset veranda balconies have more square footage than the largest of the hump balconies.

That was my understanding also. 1 and 3 back from the hump are the same and 2 & 4 are the same size.

  13. I predict those two rooms closest on the port side will become real unpopular with the people that are bothered by smoke. Talk about not being able to use your balcony, it's setting right above one of the busiest smoking spots on the ship, and the only place where cigars and pipes are smoked. Maybe they could move that to 12.

  14. I did have the salutation. It seems to be browser-dependent. There was no way to select a state with Internet Explorer or Chrome. I was able to complete the form using Firefox, which provides a drop-down list of states as expected.

I just completed the sweepstakes from the link you posted using Chrome. No problems whatsoever, was able to input state in easily. USA is the country btw, not state, per your first post, maybe that was a typo.

While their website is not user friendly I never seem to have the problems I see people talking about here. Makes me wonder how many errors are actually pabkac.

  15. I have booked the celebrity equinox for march 21 and it will not let me on to book shore excursions. It keeps saying that my reservation is being modified. My final payment is not due till january 5th so not sure if that is having an impact on it. They let me on once and everything was fine now i can not view anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jane

Are shore excursions available for your cruise yet? Looks to be at least 170 days out or so.

  16. We are sailing on our first Celebrity cruise on The Silhouette on November 18th. We were told that only Select was available as early/late was filled. We prepaid and really don't have that much of a problem with it. We also bought the premium drink package,:) so I am looking forward to seeing $0.000 at the end of the cruise.

It is my understanding that we prepaid all of the tips, no just dining. Is that correct?

It's interesting to note that us Brits don't like tipping in any form and that our American cousins always agree with it!

I think our cultures are different. In the UK we expect to be paid a proper wage so that tipping is something you get only if you give 'over and above' special service in the service industries and not for doing your job! I wouldn't dream of asking for or expecting a tip for doing my job - I am paid to do a good job after all.

I really think it's about time that cruise fares included tips, they don't even have to separate that in the price, just give one price. Pay a proper wage to the staff - why is this so difficult. This would save any of these disputes, queries or awkwardness.

It is entirely wrong, in my opinion, to pay a tip in advance of the service, what happens if the service falls down (never seen it happen on Celebrity) but it could happen. Staff should be paid a proper wage and then if they go 'above and beyond', people can show their appreciation to that person and he/she can benefit from their good service.

I know the other argument is that the 'behind the scenes' staff do not benefit from the tips that others would get in the front line. Again, in my opinion, this is the right way, pay all staff a proper wage, even if it means adding some to the original purchase price of the cruise and then allow the individuals who give a special service to benefit. You wouldn't go to a hotel and tip everyone behind the scenes or expect to pay a prepaid or daily tip would you? So why on cruise lines?

Surely this would also encourage staff on ship to do well and to give exceptional service.

I can't speak for everyone but all the Brits that I have spoken to, who cruise, would rather just be given a price for the cruise and not be told or charged separately for tipping!

I might add that I do always prepay tips because that's what is currently required on some lines but I don't think it is the correct way.

    Enjoy your cruises.

An excellent point you brought up, and one that's never been brought up before:rolleyes:

Spa service tips are not included I believe.
