Well, first they just recommended one restaurant. Secondly (please don't flame me), I was thinking on the order of a traditional pasta with marinara, not southwestern with rice and beans. I also do not do seafood, so I feel surf and turf is probably out (but I guess I can ask to not bring the surf, lol). So I was just concentrating on the chicken. That was my PERSONAL interpretation. I am sorry that I made that assumption without you understanding my personal food preferences. When eating in the main dining room, I choose from the alternative menu about 4 evenings, which is why I like those alternative selections. It's the grilled chicken, sliders, or salad entrée for me. I grew up on a farm where I was very poor, with limited selections of beef and milk from our farm, coupled with the vegetables we grew. No matter how hard I try, I just cannot seem to expand those taste buds.
After reading all the debate, I decided to email Royal and I shared the response. That's all. And yes, I will probably get chicken every night. :)
You have no reason to apologize. Your question was too the point and the response was from Royal was junk. There is probably at least one night I eat from the standard alternate menu in the mdr and my sister at least twice on a 7 night cruise. Anyone recommending the ala carte up charge menu items has missed your point.
Your question is valid and thanks for posting the response. We can debate from now until 2 Nov if the rep that emailed you or Sir Adam is accurate in his video etc. None of us will know until the maiden voyage sails.

Where in the e-mail did it recommend you have chicken every night? You asked for a chicken, pasta, and beef dish and they gave you an example of each in the American Icon Grill.
This totally misses the OP question regarding the current options available in the mdr being available in any of the dynamic dining venues. An answer of "eat in American Icon" does not support what supposedly Adam said or meant.

The Alternative menu is available in all the "free" restaurants.
There will be the usual chicken, fish, steak & pasta available on it.
Although you may not see a menu at the moment with these items on, Adam Goldstein told everyone in one of the reveals that these items would be available.
So if perhaps you are dining in Silk (for example) because your friends like to eat there but the food is not what you can/wish to eat, you can choose instead from the Alternative Menu (chicken, fish etc) and still enjoy dinner with your friends.
Adam did indeed indicate the alternative menu at the reveal in NYC.Adam also indicated that he did not like the prolonged reveal of the Oasis rollout and that it wouldn't be that way for quantum. This in the dynamic dining reveal video I believe. And the quantum rollout has been WORSE. Sorry, but "Adam says" is a game I don't like playing.

Great review. I hope to do a European river cruise one day.

A giant bear now? The more of this ship I see, the less I understand it. The only thing that interests me in the least so far is the 270 lounge, after that, all it seems to be to me is a big hotel with lots of (pay) restaurants. I am really hoping it will grow on me once I see the interior and read/hear some reviews from paying passengers. I love all the RCI ships I've sailed on, I really do, but they have bewildered me with this one.

Trying to find out if there is a Ben & Jerry's Cabin on the Navigator and if there still is benefits to having it.
No. The B&J Sweets are only on Freedom class ships.
-
I booked when reservations first opened. Had I not done so, I would not be on this sailing. The prices are ridiculous now!
I did the same and the price of my cabin is $2000 more now.

Either Meyer Werft has a really big guard dog that they keep on a chain, or this is for a Quantum-class ship...
Well they have a giant pigeon :p

No use asking when RCI 'normally' reveals renderings of the rest of the ship? :D
Good point Lloyd, since Oasis there is no 'normal' to the way RCI reveals their ships anymore. They have yet to publish complete deck plans for the Quantum class. At least give us that.

Hi Lynette, thank you for your appreciation.
Sorry about the attachment. I have tried again with it in plain text format. Hope you can now open it.
Happy cruising :)
Anni
Just in case the new attachment doesn't work for them I have attached the file in pdf format. Not meaning to butt in but have been lurking on the thread as I will be traveling to the Baltic in 2015. Anyway, hope this helps if she is unable to open the new attachment Anni provided.
Anni, you are a wealth of knowledge. If I have any questions when I get closer to sail date I will be sure to ask for advice here.

I'm thinking that my best option will be to fly into Hobby on the day before the cruise and then book a transfer with Galveston Limousine Service and stay at a hotel close to the port. Is it easy to organise a transfer to the ship on the morning of the cruise? Are cabs readily available or do some hotels offer shuttle transfers? I've looked at a few hotels online but have not seen transfers to the ship listed on any I've looked at yet.
Taxis are sparce in Galveston from what I saw the one time I sailed from there. I did not see hotels advertise shuttles however the one I stayed at had them for $7-10 I think the price was. I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express that wasn't very good but served the purpose. My recommendation would be to find a couple of hotels you are interested in and see if they have an email address where you can check on availability of a shuttle.
I would have no idea of the cost of a taxi in and around Houston. Sometimes the airport websites will have some taxi info or links to prices.

I've been reading threads here about transfers and it seems that most are not offering shared rides and since I'll be by myself that can make a transfer expensive. Do you know of any shuttle companies that offer shared rides from Hobby to Galveston and / or Galveston cruise port to Hobby airport or to hotels in the Houston area?
I used Galveston Limousine Service in 2013 as I went in the day before sailing. A shared van was $45pp one way Hobby to Galveston. I used the ship transfer on disembarking.

WOW! I have been away for a while but thinking of booking the Independence for next summer. What cabin is the Ben & Jerrys suite?
Thank you.
Its 6305 on all three Freedom class ships.

Yes they do and the cost is $28.50 pp.

According to the list on pages 98/99 there is no Vintages on Quantum class but it shows it in the pic of Anthem
Well the list of bars doesn't include Schooner Bar on ANY ship. And for all these years and cruises I could swear that's where I was sitting most nights.

Latest Website WoW (not). Friend just informed me C&A site deleted all of his preferences (upgrade, stateroom amenity etc.) I'm not on computer so haven't checked mine. However he wasn't affected by the signin snafu.:mad::eek:

Thanks Itsa you just earned a free "get outta the naughty corner" card.....for now :p:D
Watch out world, Itsa's outta the corner and doing cartwheels. Oops, knocked over a lamp. On my way back. :p
It's more fun in the corner anyway. That's where the cool people hang out
And thanks to Nowwa, she called and found out to use the back door. But don't tell her I gave her credit. :p

This may be a way into the reservation system:
On RCI homepage go to the Before you Board link. Select Countdown to Cruise and input your reservation info.
That worked for me!
Rick
Regular log-in still not working here. Maybe the night shift crew can fix it.R&D
Hopefully the night shift doesn't work on taking down the back door way in.
-
This may be a way into the reservation system until either:
1. They fix the normal log in process or
2. They break this way in
Worked for my sister who was locked out like a lot of people
On RCI homepage go to the Before you Board link. Select Countdown to Cruise and input your reservation info. She was able to get in
Let us know if it works for the rest of you. Don't know if this gets you access to all of your reservations once you are in or just the one you input.
The other option she was told by RCI was to go the change your password route.
-
Sis locked out too.
Just think of people that wait until the last days to do on line check in and now can't get in. Adding to wait times to check in at pier.
Big mess.
I'd say smh but I've been shm a lot lately and afraid its going to fall off one of these times.

Update - RCCL's IT team are working on the Outages on My Cruises logins & Quantum & Anthem cruise planners.
Sadly no time scale mentioned as to when it may or may not be fixed but hey...at least they know about the problems ...that is a good thing...isn't it
I provided my input to that in post #11:eek:

....wait is it a holiday next week at all in the US ?
Nope. Father's Day on Sunday but that's it and not an official holiday. Of course Royal's IT have been on a never ending holiday for quite some time. They are on the other side of the room in the Useless Corner.
-
If you are in the naughty corner again.........so am I. LOL. I tried many times getting the same message you did. I changed my password like the website said to do.........did this twice........still can't get in. What a pain:confused::confused::confused:
Hopefully it will get fixed soon:)
There's always room in the naughty corner for more :D come on in!
