  1. I'm glad for you that you got the upgrade BUT

you said this was after final payment SO

technically, you did not deserve a discount.

I know everyone says call and ask if you can get an OBC for the price drop but no one should be upset when they don't. 90% of the time we book when the cruise is first available and have never had a cabin sell less than we paid. My cabin category always seems to sell out. But that is the game you play. I get a little upset at people who cut down Princess when they post that they could not get them to lower the price. Maybe some people should just wait until after final payment and then book. Yes, just like airfares, you are not happy when the person sitting next to you on the plane tells you what they paid and it is half of what you paid.

  2. We have never gotten a suite at a discounted price. I suppose you could on some of the less popular cruises.

But I have been very disappointed with them the past several years. Perks are nothing special since we get most of them as elite. Service has not been the same the past few years and of course there was the smaller than normal OS on the Royal with all the soot - worst suite we have ever been in.

We still have them booked for future cruises but I am thinking of looking at a different cruise line.

found this link on the roll call for the cruise. Still don't know if I want to book or not. I almost think the music might drive me nuts more than the drunk football fans. AT least they will be still in bed until early afternoon.

There was a thread ages ago about large groups taking over a ship and they were debating if the cruise lines should inform other passengers that of them.

  4. I always take out insurance on any type of vacation we take but my wife brought up something and I am not sure what to do. We have a credit from the cruise company which would cover half of our cruise cost. I am ready to book a cruise but not sure if I should insure it for the full cost or just the amount we will be paying. Will the insurance company pay for the credit or just the amount we paid in cash. To me, the credit is cash but I am worried that in the end, they may say no and I don't want to lose it.

We are driving to the port so the cruise is the only thing we would be insuring.

    Thanks

  5. I have been on cruises with dance groups. They reserve areas of the ship for hours every day. They take over dancing in the atrium all day and will sit down there waiting for the evening dancing to start. I never saw anyone sitting in the area other than the dancers. That is not right!!!

They also took over the stern part of the Horizon court on the Royal. It was maddening to eat lunch on the open deck and have to go back inside to get to the other side. They dancing music could drive you nuts. We only ate out there once. Think what polka music is like.

  6. We most likely have the same travel agent and I must say she is the best travel agent I have EVER had. So very happy for her.

    :D

I think I know who you are talking about. Isn't that the nice lady from the Royal TA who was harassed by some on the roll call. She always travels with her son and his little guide dog. I thought she was a very nice lady and my wife really liked her and wanted to transfer a couple cruise bookings to her but we have had our TA for 20 years and I hated to toss him out. She had some great tours but we always waited too long to join her.

I haven't seen her post for ages. Hope everything is ok with her. Glad she will get a chance to join the ceremony.

  7. Believe me they do take over MUTS and every other available area on the ship where they can watch the game. We were on the Crown princess this past Feb with this same group and they basically took over the whole ship for the whole week.

SO, is it that bad that we should rethink and maybe cancel the cruise. We are going just to relax and probably not even go ashore.

There is also a Polka group on board.

    thanks for posting

  8. satxdriver,

are you talking about what the ship did for the super bowl or are you talking about what this "group tour" organizers did? Normally the public is not invited to events that groups plan since they pay extra for it. I check prices and they are higher than what the Princess site has.

I've been on for several super bowls and what you said sounds like what the ship provided for everyone onboard.

  10. You and I are talking about the same airline - SW. I have seen this problem several times with people boarding on Southwest Airlines. Unfortunately, the airline is either forbidden by law to verify a handicap or they chose not to for fear of alienating customers.

    DON

I am really getting tired of SW's boarding policy. I stopped using them after a flight last year when they called a family with small kids to board first - then they announced that the rest of the family members could join them - TEN of them. And earlier, two older people came into the waiting area pushing wheelchairs. Their luggage was on the seats and they sat in regular chairs up front and parked the chairs next to them. They were allowed to board next. When we landed, these two older people walked off the plane with their carry ons - no wheelchairs in sight.

I usually take don't care to sit in the bulkhead seats but the kids and their families selected those seats - so all the front seats were gone after more than 20 people were allowed to board first. Many people who purchased the early board option were not very happy especially since none of them did.

I also am getting tired of cruise ships allowing wheelchairs to board first. I have seen too many people jump out of the chairs and run off once they were on the ship. If someone really needs a wheelchair and wants to be on the ship early, then they should have their own or have arranged to rent one to be picked up at the pier. It is a nightmare at some ports before boarding starts, so why not come a little later. We usually come about halfway into boarding and can walk right on the ship.

I know what it is like not to be able to walk but I am talking about these people that abuse the system and remember watching a parade once when people started coming around and standing in front of me and I couldn't see anything - was I invisible in that wheelchair??? It seems like more and more people feel that they are number ONE and will do anything to get what they want. Remember Disneyland when people were renting handicapped people to join them so they could cut in line? I know many of these people want to get on the ship first so they can book the Sanctuary - they get the cheapest cabin and then pull the handicapped act.

I could go on and on about people I have seen use a wheelchair to board and then are dancing every night or running around the track.

My brother is a doctor and you wouldn't believe the number of people that ask for him to sign a handicap parking application. When he says no, they jump down off the table and walk out mad. I also have been next to walk up the gangplank when the crew has stopped us to push ten wheelchairs past us. And half of them are way overweight. I little walking might be good for them - I know- I know - they may have heart or other issues. That is why I arrive late. It is too bad some people make a bad name for others that really need the extra help.

  11. My dw has been a member here for many many years but because of a temporary eye issue doesn't post anymore. We or I should say she joined every roll call and does enjoy them. It is a little different story for me. I just retired and haven't had time until recently. I didn't go to a M&G until the last cruise and doubt if I will go to anymore. My wife does enjoy them and has met some wonderful people that have become lifelong friends who we cruise with often. There have been many holiday cruises that no one has showed up for the M&G and then some long cruises that have had over 200 people.

We have stopped giving our cabin number to the roll call because we book suites and are tried of people begging us to have a cabin crawl in our cabin and when we have had the grand suite - what a mistake - they not only wanted a cabin crawl but a sailaway party for the roll call.

Then one time my wife and a lady started emailing for six months before the cruise, they seemed nice at the M&G so she invited them down for cocktails before dinner - what a nightmare - they were so dull and the woman thought we were their new best friends and wouldn't leave us alone. I really think they were watching our cabin because we would run into them five minutes after leaving the cabin. We ended up being prisoners in our cabin because we could not stand being around them.

Most of these roll calls are organized by well traveled CC people so why are they so anal about cabin crawls. By now they should have seen every category on the ships. And if you haven't, stop by and look yourself when you are disembarking. We enjoy having people down to our cabin but I want to select them.

  12. thanks ssb

can anyone give me the address or location of where they would be. I will try to google to find the location. Go screwed by a taxi driver several years ago. I didn't realize it by where I wanted to go was less than a mile away yet he drove way out of the way and managed to run the tab up. DIdn't realize it until we returned after dinner several hours later and that driver had us back at the hotel in less than 5 minutes. Now - I want a map in hand to know exactly where I am going and mention that fact to the driver.

  13. Thanks Rudyard,

Yes, we are staying at the Broadway Inn in Kemah. We will be there two days before the cruise to relax. We don't mind walking. I know the hotel does not have a shuttle and we can always grab a taxi if we need one but we like to walk for exercise.

Thanks both of you for the fast replies.

  14. I was told if the children are underage and in a separate cabin they will put you near each other.

I have never heard of Princess allowing underage children to be booked alone in cabins. People normally book one child with an adult and then switch once on the ship. With some children this works out fine BUT last Christmas I wish I would have reported the two cabins across the hall from us. Two small (under 10) children in each cabin with the parents on a different deck. They chased each other around the halls all day, pillow fights, screaming, tossed dirty dishes out in the hall along with all their wet towels. The door was open several times when I walked by - Oh my goodness, the poor crew member who had to clean that room.

Please keep an eye on your kids and don't let them run wild. I know you say your wife will stay in the same cabin but some people say one thing and do another - not saying you are like that.
