Once you are in suite it is very hard to go back even to a mini suite.
long cruiser
Unless you are in an OS on the Royal
-
Yes, I agree - a big waste of money
-
Not me when I am paying 3 times the price of a mini-suite and Princess took away the free internet.;)

When we made elite, we had 95 days with 8 cruises. We tried a suite our second cruise and never went back. I don't feel bad about making it in fewer days than most because we have spend a lot of money. We fell in love with the grand suite and book one whenever it is available. We really get the same perks as elite so the elite status doesn't mean much to us. Everyone says the laundry is the best perk especially on a long cruises. How long does it take to do a load or two of laundry??? My wife never sends her things down and just a few of mine. We take nice clothes and don't want them ruined by the hot water temps and very hot dryers.
We like wine so we never drink all the bottles in the bar set up and like someone said, their value isn't that much. We usually leave that stuff for the steward.
We usually wait until afternoon to board so the priority boarding is no big deal. Getting on board early just to eat lunch is not important either.
So if there is a new system and it knocks us out of elite - no big deal.

The embarkation was chaotic to say the least even for suite passengers.
We ate in the Crown grill twice and the food was good but very slow service.
Each of us have different experiences and should never be criticized for sharing their opinions.
I take it you were in a suite. Did they have a suite/elite lounge where you waited to board?
Also, if in a suite, did they make you have your "first night free" specialty restaurant dinner the first night or did they allow you to go another night. Thanks
YES, agree that no one should be criticized for voicing their opinions.

I don't consider a catamaran a yacht. We have chartered many 50' sailboats in the Caribbean but I do not think of them as yachts. There are many definitions for "yacht".
Mapsmith said "That would give you an entire boat for your Great Room, and enough Bedrooms and Baths for the entire group." Well, even a 65 foot motorboat would not give eight people much room in the salon. Do you know how small those cabins are - and the bathrooms!!!! And who will do the cooking? And you need to know how to sail or pay more for a captain.
When I think of chartering a yacht, I think of 130ft or more and I have checked those prices. NO where near $22,000. Not even for a day. That is why I asked where I could find one.
-
Take your $22,000. and charter a Yacht from St. Thomas for a week. That would give you an entire boat for your Great Room, and enough Bedrooms and Baths for the entire group. Plus you would be the people deciding where to go.
Please tell me where I can find a week yacht charter with four staterooms for $22,000.

I have never heard of being able to book a suite and the next door balcony as a family suite. If they did it, they would certainly have to charge extra. Usually suites are four times the price of a inside and double the price of a mini. So I'd think it would be somewhere in between.
Lets just say, I hope it isn't true. Do you realize how many extra people they would have for breakfast if half the suites were allowed to do that? And once the word gets out that you can just link a suite with the cabin next to it together and get suite perks - lookout - they will sell out the first day.
We always book suites and there are many times that only two tables are occupied for breakfast but there are many more where eight or more tables are full and service is much slower. They don't add more waiters.
So, if this is true, it could really make Sabatini's breakfast less attractive. We are elite so other than a larger cabin, breakfast is the only perk left. I still am not happy that the internet minutes are gone.
AND this won't help the op - they have people in three cabins.

PenguinLife,
I must say I would be a little upset if we did not get any announcements but I remember many times on other cruises that people talked about announcements but we never heard them in our cabin.
Hope everyone on the cruise has an enjoyable time on the rest of the cruise. -
I can't believe some of you people. Did you get a refund ? - did they compensate you ? - let us know if there is an obc, future credits or compensation offered from Princess. Since when has Princess been responsible for the weather???
Just like hurricane cruises. It has been all over cc that Bayport had weather issues last year and also if you are cruising during hurricane season, you could have issues. So, why did you book a cruise when you knew there could be a chance of issues. And why didn't you purchase insurance? Oh, that's right, you booked a cheap inside and are hoping Princess will compensate you so it will turn into a free cruise.
I'd be fired as a customer service rep for Princess if you called and asked for compensation because of weather.
And Traveler67 - I agree with you - see no reason to get rattled about a cruise you are not on and to call Princess. Or call a news station.
That is probably why the noro outbreak news is all over the internet - someone called a news station. Why do people have to be the FIRST to post bad news or rumors about things? -
I think double the balcony price is a great price for a suite. They usually start at twice the price of minisuites.

Good news. Daughter's Roth statement comes separate from her other brokerage statement and she still has the stock. I think I will transfer 100 shares out of our joint account and put in my Roth account so if we ever are in different cabins, we can both get the obc.
Thanks again for all your help.

I understand but some answers are confusing (like my question).
Paul - your answer - "Only the shareholder can get the OBC and only for the cabin they occupy." would make you think that if each person on a joint account owns stock, then being in separate cabins would allow them to get it for both.
This is what I was looking for:
It is one credit per shareholder account.
By the way Princess Patches, you post at 1:34 was not showing when I posted at 1:47 because I pulled up the thread in a separate tab.
Sorry I would not have asked (again) if I would have seen that post.
Thanks everyone - appreciate all the time you spent posting

Just a little confused - not enough sleep last night.
Not final payment yet so I could make some changes.
The only account that we own the stock in right now is our joint account. But I could transfer 100 shares to one of my wife's accounts or to my daughter.
I could also book my daughter and wife in one cabin and I could go solo in the other one. Now that I think about it, my daughter could get free laundry in the suite with me and since we are elite, my wife still would get the laundry even though she won't send many of the things down. We also would get two bar set ups in the suite and she would get one in the solo cabin.
So, if we switched cabins, would our joint account get us the OBC in each cabin???
I guess I need a nap and then I might be able to think straight. Thanks for answering all my questions.

Unless someone in the cabin is a shareholder they won't do it.
Quite by mistake, a couple of years ago. my wife and I took two of our adult children (Guy and Gal) and we each took one as a cabin mate. On a lark, I sent in our jointly listed stock form for each cabin and we did get OBC for each.
.
I know someone in the cabin MUST be a shareholder.
Not sure if I understand this? You and your wife, who are joint shareholders, had separate cabins with one of your children in each cabin. So is that not legal? Underage kids can't be booked in their own cabin so many people do this. Or does there have to be a separate shareholder account for each cabin - like a retirement account? thanks
Appreciate all for the fast replies.

I did a search but could not find the answer. Can I get credit for two cabins that I paid for on an upcoming cruise? My daughter is cruising solo in the second cabin. She use to have Carnival stock but I must have sold it.
thanks for any help.

Where, OMG, SHE'S SITTING ON THE CUSHION!!!! So better not book the Sanctuary, either. In fact, think of all those chairs all over the ship -- other people's behinds have been on them, too!!!!!
Big difference between a pillow where your face and mouth are on than a chair or lounge chair

shredie,
No, not the hospital but a bookstore to find a "how to" book.:D

A duvet (UK /ˈdjuːveɪ/ or UK /ˈduːveɪ/; US /duːˈveɪ/; from the French duvet [dyˈvɛ] "down"), also known as a doona in Australian English, or a continental quilt (or simply quilt) in British English, or a comforter in American English, is a type of bedding.

Thumper69, good for you.
ar1950, oh dear - you must have read that post. I don't remember her saying that she only did it once. Now that I think about it she only stays in insides and oceanviews. It must have been an upgrade.
But like you said - how many others are there. Or even at the desk chair.
I see many people bringing there own pillows. I like a real flat one and most are so fat - and it probably is a king or queen pillow in a standard case. My wife does look over the pillows and asks does ask for a second pillowcase or, a new pillow. I check out a hotel room before we say we will take it. Bedspread comes off first.
I didn't mention it before but since our daughter is a doctor, has talked about how bad IBS is for some people (aunt had it) and many people can't leave their homes until late morning because of it. Anal leakage is caused by more things and not just being a side effect of certain pills. So there could be more on those pillows than just a little odor from passing gas.
So everyday be thankful for being healthy.

Ok, after reading that thread I just can't help but post about the pillows. There was a thread posted a year or maybe two ago about balcony chairs and how uncomfortable they were. A very well known poster here posted that she takes one of the pillows off the bed and uses it as a seat cushion on her balcony chair to make it more comfortable. That just made my stomach sick. I sleep with my face in my pillow. Now she travels solo so she could use one of the other ones on the bed but I really hate that my wife pointed that thread out to me because, now, everytime she posts I think about the pillow that she sat on and hope I am not in that cabin on the next cruise.

This isn't my department and my wife is out of town but I thought the duvet was the covering. My wife has made a couple by sewing two sheets together. SO isn't the duvet the thing that you put a comforter in so you don't have to wash the comforter every time. We use them because of our pets.

A friend called last night and asked if I knew anything about doing a suite guarantee. He knew we always book suites on Princess but I could not help him since I never have booked a guarantee.
This is on a ship with window suites. He booked the guarantee but really wants a suite with a balcony. There is no way we could stay in one of the window suites because I need to be on a balcony for my morning coffee and my before dinner cocktail and frequently in between. I told him no one really knows how they are done but it usually depends on availability and demand. And I would assume they are selected close to sailing and not before final payment.
So, if any of you have ever booked a suite guarantee, what type of a cabin did you get? And when was it assigned?
thanks

Is an upgrade a discount ? I'm not sure. I see your point but upgrading a good customer,
as the OP indicated, instead of rebating them with cash seems like a good idea to me..
The OP has a b2b. They did get a refund on the first one and this upgrade on the second one.
Can you carry your own big luggage on?

I would love to take our bags on ourselves. We have cruised enough that we don't need to tour the ship after we get on and we have lunch at our hotel so we like to unpack as soon as possible and get the suitcases put away. Then it is time to relax. Sometimes they come right away and other times not until dinner time and once at 10pm. And we were in suites so your cabin makes no difference as to when they get delivered.
I hate the porters in Fll. Last time the porter left our bags in the road right where the cab driver set them and I started to walk away thinking that my wife tipped them but was rather upset when two of them stood in front of me and said "you did not tip us for your bags yet and they aren't moving until you do". I wanted to just pick them up and walk away. I guess my fear was that they wouldn't fit in the machine and then they would send me back to those porters. Would have loved to have taken a photo of them and posted it here or somewhere. Have no idea if there is someone you could report them to. We don't take very large suitcases and would love to split it in two small bags and a backpack and carry them on ourselves but that would mean extra baggage charges on our flights.
And yes, we have seen suitcases land in the water. That is why 15 years ago we started putting everything into jumbo ziplock bags. We had an airline once that left the bags on the tarmac during a bad lightening storm and when we got home found everything wet.
So, go for it and carry it on. The crew on the ship would probably love it if more of us did it.
