  1. I heard this roaring sound in the sky this afternoon like fighter jets doing a flyby over our neighborhood. I knew by the time I grabbed my phone and ran outside, it’d be gone. But someone did manage to capture a picture of 3 of the 5 jets flying in formation. She shared it with us on the neighborhood email group. This is 2 of the jets. Renee @ReneeFLL, can Mike identify the jet from the photo? A son of a neighbor’s friend who is very interested in aviation says that “They look like early model F/A-18s (C/D models) because they only have 4 underwing hard points. Probably Marine Corps because the Navy has pretty much switched completely over to the newer Super Hornets (E/F models) which are slightly larger and have 6 underwing hard points.” Is this correct?
  2. What a beautiful day in Bayonne, New Jersey. This was how it started. Verazzano Bridge at 5:30 in the morning Going under the bridge The bridge behind us Teardrop Memorial Statue of Liberty Bayonne Golf Course Like I always say, all good things must come to an end. So this wraps up our B2B British Isles/Arctic Circle cruise. What an adventure it’s been. Now the dreaded task begins. I will have to go through and edit all of my thousands of pictures. I will share them with you when that gets done. Edit: I couldn’t resist…thsnks for your patience
  3. Enjoying our last day at sea until we reach Cape Liberty. It is still a foggy morning and have to catch the sun when it appears for a few seconds before being covered by the fog.
  4. Good morning, we are at sea today. Went out this morning looking for this morning’s sunrise. It was very foggy. Standing outside on deck, the captain blasted the fog horn right above me. Man, I jumped! Scared me to death. And then he kept doing it. I jumped each time. Lol This from the back of the ship Then the fog came this way and covered the sun very quickly A little while later, it peeked out a bit but still under the fog. This was taken by DH. By the time I ran to get outside to take the picture, it was gone. He said there was a rainbow in there. A nice spot to sit at after my workout. First time sitting in the Solarium actually. It’s very nice. The sky cleared just enough until the fog covered the sky again and the fog horn continues.
  5. Sincere condolences to Susan & you for your loss, @h20skibum. Congratulations, Bob @bobmacliberty on your daughter’s wedding. Everything looked beautiful. Particularly the wedding gown and the beautiful shot of your daughter looking out the window. And of course, the father/daughter dance. Have a wonderful cruise, @sgmn, @Sunshine3601, @Arzeena and @Momof3gurlz. I hope I didn’t miss anybody.
  6. Our day started out really foggy. Like Renee said, the Captain kept blowing that fog horn. We were delayed by an hour and a half. But the fog lifted and it turned out to be a really nice warm day. Peggy’s Cove
  7. Yesterday was our port in St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Our tour for the day was Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours. We started the day with a little rain and then a full range rainbow. See that little white spot on bottom of the mountain in the mist of the fog? That’s a couple taking wedding pictures down there. Seacaves The waves were something fierce. It was really difficult to hang onto the railing and camera and try to take a picture at the same time. I thought I was going to get seasick and/or get thrown off the boat. We’ve reached the farthest eastern point of North America. This is either a Minkie whale or a Mola whale, I was told by the tour guides. They are small like dolphins and only come this far up to the surface. There were no sightings of any whales otherwise. There’s our ship! Canadian Coast Guard A popular pub in town End of our day as we prepared to sail away.
  8. Continuing on along the Prins Christian Sund…after the rain and rainbows So that ends our sailing down the Prins Christian Sund. Hope you enjoyed these pictures. It was so much more breathtaking in person. You get to take in the whole beauty of it all. I didn’t want it to end but we had to get inside to thaw out because I was just about frozen. Cheers!
  9. Here we go- icebergs and interesting rock formations Then the rain came Deck 5 bow emptied out except for us diehards, another couple and an activities crew member. We waited because we knew there would be a rainbow it was faint but we were rewarded again with another one
  10. More icebergs, interesting mountains, waterfalls and glaciers. But having problems uploading photos. Please stay tuned.
  11. Couple days ago, we sailed through the Prins Christian Sund from 2:30 PM to 8:30 PM. It was windy and freezing outside but the sights were absolutely amazing. Whale sighting That is cloud covering on top of the mountains We are sailing into those dark grey clouds…more to follow…
  12. I am so far behind I just can’t keep up. Yesterday was Qaqortoq, Greenland . It is a very small town with population of about 3,500. You definitely don’t need @Jimbo to book any excursions. It is very easy to walk around town on your own. It was cold about 40 degrees so layering is wise. You get a great view as you walk up the road See that tiny black marker on the top the mountain on the right? We walked along the road that lead to it. As we got close to it, it looked kind of steep ti me to get to the top so I waited while M went up. It took about 8 minutes and he made it to the top. The view from up there He came down and this was where we met Mike and we took the road back down to town. Renee @ReneeFLL was still not up to being out so we missed her. The Qaqortoq Boot The Stone and Man carvings
  13. Renee, @ReneeFLL, this little Icelandic Air plane was approaching the landing strip while we were in the MDR. Here is the Akureyri International Airport runway. A couple whales outside the Windjammer just now. Just caught one though. Can you see it?
  14. Thanks, Dave. I hope you will get a chance to do this itinerary. It is amazing and like no other. The Christmas Market is something I would love to do someday, too. Merv has been kind to me. Sometimes he makes me know that he’s around and I just have to be kind back to him. I hope the injection you had for your knee is working finally and be fine for your October cruise. I’m glad you love Odyssey. I knew you are a Windjammer fan and I knew right away that you would love it on this ship. That’s why I posted to you afterwards that you would love it or your money back. I really wish I could go on Odyssey again.
  15. Back from our tour today. We visited Dynjandi Waterfall. The top one is a bridal veil and then 7 falls from there. It was so spectacular and then it started to rain. A full rainbow on our way back to the ship. There were many other stops with awesome views but I will have to share them later. Drinks for today - Flying Fortress & Watermelon Mint Lemonade Bless, Bless. Means Bye Bye in Icelandic
  16. I love the Radiance class ships and I love Jewel. Obviously, it is smaller and doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that the bigger class ships have. I like how it’s not that long a walk to get from the front of the ship to the back of the ship. Being a smaller ship means less chance for me to get lost. I love the gym and the spa. The solarium is small and not fancy like the Oasis or the Quantum class Solarium if that is important to you. The Jewel Windjammer beats the Oasis class hands down to me. It is spacious and spread out and not cramped tight as the O class. But of course, Jewel has less food venues, less retail venues and less entertainment venues. We have done our first TA on Jewel, second one on Adventure, and one on Odyssey last October. So then actually we have experienced the small, medium and large ships for TA’s. Honestly, I enjoyed each of them. But if the ship itself is a big part of the trip, I would pick the bigger class ship such as Odyssey. There’d be so much more to do, more specialty dining, complimentary food venues and more show venues. I really loved Odyssey, especially the Windjammer. I hope this helps.
  17. Good morning! It is a brisk 39 degrees outside. We missed the full moon the other night. This morning’s is still sort of full. The seagull wanted his picture taken, too. 🙂 My feet picture
  18. Going back a few days. This was Jewel approaching the locks as we sailed from Amsterdam a few days ago. I don’t think the webcam showed this as it was so far out from the port. Beautiful countryside. Tons of wind turbines We sit and wait Lots of lighthouses
  19. We were expecting it to be really cold here in Akureyri, Iceland today but it turned out to be really nice. No heavy jacket needed. This was the path we took at the Godofoss Falls. Myvatn Lake
  20. Greetings from Amsterdam! We’ve finished our British Isles portion of the cruise. Getting ready for the Transarctic to NY. I had intentions to post but have not had a chance because of either being out all day with tours and excursions or exhausted from them or not having internet. We have a free moment now. It is a beautiful day here in Amsterdam this morning. I get the gym all to myself.
