  1. What’s his is yours and what’s yours is your own!
  2. Oh no! I’m very sorry to hear about your phone being stolen. Barcelona is so notorious for thieves. It’s such a shame. I hope your insurance covers it.
  3. @Smitheroothis post reads to me like you won’t be buying travel insurance. Maybe I’m mistaken and there’s a difference in language from one side of the pond to the other. Which is why I reiterated the point about not travelling without it. Mea culpa!
  4. Your Irish passport gets you the right to travel freely within the rest of Europe and also the UK even though they are no longer in Europe. You can live in any European country and apply for social security in any country - whether you would meet their requirements is another story but legally you have that right. But that’s about it. As far as I know, as an Irish citizen, there are no other advantages to having an Irish passport over one from another country. But don’t expect to be able to have free health care. If you’re in Ireland and you turn up in the ER you’ll have a very, very long wait, same as the rest of the population. I know it’s like that in the UK. Not sure about the rest of Europe. Without the European Medical Card, you won’t get any ‘free’ accident treatment and the only way to get the card in Ireland is to have a social security number. Which you wouldn’t qualify for. Get travel insurance. Even if all of the above points were moot, you still need travel insurance that includes repatriation. So, so important. Don’t travel without it. Having said all that, Bon Voyage! 😉
  5. As far as I know you will be treated if you’re in an accident but they will come looking for payment afterwards. My uncle who is Irish by birth was ill in Ireland a few years ago and received great care here. He has an Irish passport but his American health insurance paid the bills. He didn’t have a travel insurance but he really should have. I wouldn’t count on getting free healthcare. No one that I know who lives in various parts of Europe would ever dream of travelling without travel insurance. As far as I’m aware also the free accident cover may cover the immediate aftermath of the accident but any other necessary procedures would not be covered. Hope this helps.
  6. If you don’t have an address in the EU I’m not sure how much you would benefit from the emergency health care that is available to EU citizens. You need to have a card with you that you can apply for before you travel. Which reminds me, I need a new one!
  7. Oh Yvonne, those pictures were worth waiting for!! Absolutely stunning! Thrilled to hear you got your dream job. You deserve it. Well done! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
  8. Oh no Yvonne! I’m sorry to hear that. I had a similar catastrophe not so long ago. Thought I was going to have to replace all of my flooring after a pipe flooded my kitchen. But I was able to borrow a dehumidifier and left it running for a few days. It made such a huge difference. So far I don’t have to replace anything. Definitely worth a try. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Xxx
  9. I like the buffet as both times this year it’s been Prime Rib night!
  10. Make sure that the cabin doesn’t have a void anywhere around it. I was in a studio cabin on the breakaway that was at the end of the row and behind the larger wall was a big gap on the deck plans. I could hear water running and gushing until the early hours of the morning and beginning again after 6 am. It was very frustrating. Also make sure it doesn’t have a connecting door to the next solo cabin. That lets a lot of noise filter through.
  11. Not necessarily, I’m travelling on the Prima in October in a studio cabin. When I booked in February the fare was around €2500, I got the fare adjusted yesterday and it’s now costing me €1300, so I really think each cruise is different.
  12. Really enjoyed reading about your adventures Yvonne. Glad you’re home safe and sound. I’m sure your dad will be thrilled to see you! Will look forward to reading your next report. March seems like too far away but the way time flies it will be here before we know it!
  13. That case is lovely but just be aware if you are travelling on any internal European airlines there is a maximum of 10kg for your carry on. Some airlines are very strict about this. I looked at the weight of your case and it was over 3 kg, nearer to 4kg I think! Just a word of caution….
  14. It looks like such a fabulous place to go. I’m sure your dad would love it. Finally a spa where he can get a beer!!
  15. Is that ‘normally’ pre or post Brexit? That would be very important to know as they are talking about introducing visa requirements for British people to enter Europe. I’m not sure when that’s due to come in. I don’t think I would risk not renewing my passport.
  16. How lovely to see you actually getting a full meal of decent food. If memory serves, that might be the first time since you left Canada!!
  17. Shouldn’t that have been climbed every mountain fjorded every stream….😉🤦‍♀️
  18. The Getaway was NOT like that in February when I was on it. Solo meet ups were in one of the bars and all were welcome. I’m pretty sure the Breakaway was the same in May but I wasn’t solo in May so cannot swear to that.
