If you have sailed with NCL within the last 18 months a junket company cannot book you with them NCL basically own you, they however can book you on Celebrity, Royal, MSC etc. You would have to upload a current cruise comp offer from another casino and/or your players cards from land casinos showing a high tier. After your first sailing with them they base your next comp on the play you did on your previous sailing through them.

I am using them in March on the Anthem, even though I got direct offers from Royal none of them were out of Bayonne so I booked through URComped to get the ship and date I wanted.

Thank you for the info CCC.  What do you mean by a current cruise comp?  Would that be my wonderful 20% off an inside room email I got from the CAS rep I spoke with?

Can I upload my casino card from the last cruise we took on the GEM back in October (I think it was a blue card)?  Or is it only land based casino cards they accept?  Since we have been cruising the past 7 years, our trips to AC and Vegas have been far less frequent, so I'm not even sure what tier level (or how many cards I still have for that matter) would be.

  2. Going to let this simmer for a bit and then try again next week.  The supervisor has yet to answer my email, which honestly, I'm not hopeful will happen.

Thanks for the advice.  Will keep you posted if our offer magically changes the next time I try.

  3. I believe you are right.

The last cruise in October, both I and my wife did fairly well, and overall we finished up about $2500 in the casino.

The CAS rep explained to me that based on our previous play on the last cruise our theoretical win/loss only qualifies us for a 20% comp on an inside room.  I asked about the 16 other cruises we were on, why those are not factored in?  And why winning a few bucks (not a jackpot or anything huge) would cause our comps to drop so dramatically?  Here response was the canned "this is the company guidelines and procedure".

I forwarded the email to a CAS supervisor I have worked with in the past.  If he does nothing, and the best they can offer me is 20% on an inside room only...definitely time to look into other cruise lines

  4. We have been on 17 cruises with NCL within the last 7 years.  All except the first one was booked thru CAS with comped/discounted rooms.

Our last 6 cruises, between my and my wife's play we were comped either an Ocean View or Balcony room.  And paid an admin fee to upgrade to a Balcony or Mini-Suite.

Our last cruise was in October 2018.  We were again comped an Ocean View.  We were taking our son on his first cruise, and my mother who is disabled.  We traded in the OV comp for 2 Inside room comps.  And then paid to upgrade one of the insides to a balcony room, so we were directly across from each other.

I just emailed them today to ask about booking our next cruise, in May 2019, to Bermuda.

I was told "based on our past play, the best we can offer is a 20% casino discount on an Inside room"?  I asked how and why our comps would decrease so dramatically, especially since the last cruise we took was 3 months ago in which we did a fair amount of play in the casino.  Waiting to hear back from them on some silly BS algorithm I'm sure, but wanted to post here since you guys are 20x more knowledgeable.  Does this make any sense at all?

  5. Were there drunks on board a cruise (any cruise line) - yes definitely

Were a few of them maybe loud and obnoxious at times - very likely since most drunk people are

Was it happening at every single venue the OP was at daily - highly highly unlikely

Did a drunk passenger punch a bartender and then his wife - completely not, since there would be many more posts about this, and there would have been at least one arrest made

Were passengers being victims of "armed robbery" on board his Carnival cruise in 2014 - again completely untrue, because again there would have been more posts about this and arrests

So there were some drunks on board this cruise, a few might have offended the OP one night in one of the bars.  A few exaggerations later...and we get his post

  6. With all due respect...you booked a balcony guarantee room, without taking any perks, to save money.  Which I am sure was a very good deal price wise for you.  That got you on the ship, and everything included for free with your cruise.

Complaining about nickles and dimes you seems to counter your frugal room choice.  You did not have to do any of that.  You knew doing so would cost a fee.  You started your review saying the money you saved on the room would counter any you spent on drinks/meals.

Other lines are more all inclusive...and more expensive.  Or, you could have included those options (drink package, dining package) when booking your room with NCL at a much more expensive rate than what you chose.  Can't have it both ways.

You want more, have to pay more.  Be in as add-ons/fees, etc with NCL, or part of the cost of the room when you book with Royal.  Same thing/different wording-names

How much of a cruise is allowed to be cancelled before full compensation is awarded? Could they technically cancel 3 or 4 days of a 7 day cruise and still charge for the rest?

They can cancel 6 days of a 7 day cruise...or every port on your cruise...it is in the agreement you sign when you book.

This is not NCL exclusive, this is the cruise industry.

As some one else pointed out, and I missed...first post, long drawn out whining and complaining...months after supposed cruise...only to never be heard from again.

These type of posts happen a lot.  Bogus/fake IMO.  If I take the time to create a profile and write out a post that long...I sure as he11 would take the time to read the replies.

You are 100% at fault here.

Agree....especially since a simple phone call could have saved you all the problem and headaches and us having to deal with a misleading topic/post about NCL customer service being terrible.

I wonder if there is an NCL worker-only forum with a corresponding topic titled "Customers who hate to take accountability"

Actually, NittanyCruise, if sid_9169 had not politicized his posts with these t-shirt photos, we wouldn’t even be discussing this. So, it is with HIM that you should have an issue with.

Actually...you are incorrect.  Sid is posting a live review.  If you do not like the views he has...stop reading the review.  You don't need to inject your disagreement of his views into his thread.  Just GTFO

Sid, thank you for taking the time to do this, amid being sick and dealing with the frustrations of the internet on board.  Hopefully you have had a good vacation despite that.

  10. I don't think this is an isolated NCL water slide issue, nor is it a NCL legal/liability issue.  I am willing to bet money that any land based water park probably has a very similarly worded waiver that entering the park/riding the slides, the guest automatically agrees to (fine print on the bottom/back of the park entrance tickets).

It is human error by the operator manning the top of the slide.  It is a mistake, rather unfortunate for the woman, but they do happen.  Considering there are what, 15 NCL ships with slides?  Each carrying thousands of passengers weekly, with their slides open most of the time (depending on weather).  I couldn't venture to guess how many people ride those slides on a weekly, monthly, annual basis.  The odds of a few injuries here and there, again very unfortunate to the people involved, is probably pretty high.

Agree with the poster who said the OP (and a few of the responses) were overly melodramatic and blown out of proportion.  Nobody should need this post to be reminded to ride a water slide at your own risk, especially the ones that are like a free fall ride.

  11. We were on the Gem that came back on 10/27...very rocky seas for the entire trip up to Canada and they got worse as the cruise went on.  Last night was really bad, and I believe we docked about 2-3 hours late.  Getting off the ship was a disaster, and getting thru customs even worse since all the porters left to go out and take care of the new people coming onboard.  Seemed like this all cause a massive snowball effect with the Gem departing late and the Breakaway not arriving to very late.  While NCL's communication has always been lacking, can confirm this was definitely weather related

  12. Did anyone else get this email recently? I am not posting the images or links, but essentially it seems like a travel insurance policy for only $25 per person, which includes coverage for missed airfare, medical emergencies/expenses and lost luggage.

Trying to gauge the different between this and the other (way more expense) travel plan they offer when you initially book.

    Dear Valued Guest,

  13. All the ships I have been on have been auto-shuffle machines after every hand. No shoe. (granted I don't play in the $100 table area). That's why I don't play blackjack on ships. Like the OP said, not a card counter, but get a feel when there are aces due and can up my bets.

  14. Thanks all...seems like the bottom line is we will either A) need to bring a car seat or B) only go to places we can walk to. Neither a great option, but I guess what's one more thing to pack right lol

Just to clarify though...maybe I wrote it confusing/maybe it was read wrong...was never asking, nor would we ever, if we could bring our son on a trip without a car seat. Was asking if the excursion transportation (either booked thru NCL or the private companies you find at each pier) would have them available so we didn't have to bring our own. AND if we did bother bringing our own...are they possible to use on these type of mini-vans/vehicles that are usually used for excursions. The ones that have 20 seats and they make sure each one is filled up so often times you are sitting squished with strangers.

  15. We are taking our son on his first cruise in October on the Gem up to Canada and parts of New England. He will almost be 1 yo at the time (bday 3 weeks later).

When it comes to things to do in port, be it a pre-booked excursion or hopping in a cab at the port, what do you guys do when it comes to car seats? After 13+ cruises, we realize that most transportation is either on a bus or min-van, usually packed with other people.

Are car seats available? Did you bring your own on the cruise and lug it around at every port? We are already packing so much that we were planning on being dropped off so not taking the car seat. And if you do bring it...can you use it on the buses/vans that are usually used for excursions?

    Thanks
