we  have been to the far east before with Marella Discovery  in 2019 and we will be going again  on Discovery 2 at  Christmas/ New Year.   Excursions come in from  £32pp  to £118pp.  so for instance in Port Klang for Kuala Lumpur   is £32pp  for the transfer coach (1.5 hours each way) to Kuala Lumpur to explore on your own thats 8 hours .  there are 10 excursions in all with the most  expensive being the best of KL at £61.  when you book the cruise you will be able to go to Cruise Control and  see all the trips to book  i think around 3 months before you go.   Phang  Nga Discovery from Penang  at £118pp being the most expensive, we have been there before (James Bond Island from The Man With The Golden Gun )  and thats 8hours. Ive not looked at all the trips  so some could be more  expensive   ie if there are helicopter  trips to book   for instance. hope this helps and if you book enjoy the cruise, we loved it back in 2019 and we cant wait to go again this Christmas.

  2. Hi all we are sailing on the Fascinating Far East 2 cruise from Singapore over Christmas and New Year, the departure time from  Singapore is listed as 20.00  the plane is due to land at  10.40 am.   That seems ok but a look on the port website  Marella Discovery 2  is due to  sail  at 15.00 .   That time frame looks very tight i am thinking that must be wrong, does anyone have any information who is due to sail at that time on this, oh the flight time in to Singapore is from Manchester.  Any light  that you can shed on it would be welcome.

    thanks

  3. Hi all, we are on Marella Discovery 10th September and we will be docked at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in New York for 2 nights and not at Manhattan Cruise Terminal which is about 8 miles away from the city, just our luck eh.  We are the the only ones all summer not to dock in Manhattan. We do have a full day trip booked for our first day but will do our own thing on the second.  We have seen the ferry service that takes you into the city but it involves 2 ferry rides.  has anyone any info about  taxi fares  from Brooklyn  to Central Park say or is there things in Brooklyn area to see/do. any info would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Hi Ladyjayneq.

I have looked at that and i fear  you are right, Manhattan has 3 cruise berths  88,90, and 92  and nycruise.com has 3ships docked on the 20th September. The P and O Aurora is docked there  for 3 days the last being the 20th September, seems its just our luck. the next 2 days after no ship is in port  at Manhattan. I can only assume worldshipny.com has not altered the dockings for discovery on our dates, an oversight on their part.

  5. Hi  Ladyjayneq,  I have found this website  www.worldshipny.com   if you scroll down to  see  jan to july schedule and click that, it shows all ships  for the whole year, it says their  web page was updated 20th June 23 i looked at all the  discovery calls into New York and it has them all  at Manhattan Cruise Terminal.  I hope this is true as we really wanted to see all of the iconic New York skyline sailing in and out of the city.  Can anyone confirm this info.

  6. hope you get away ok  Jim.   I looked on flight radar just and the flight  from Melbourne  airport  back to Manchester  had a flight  number  TOM179 I am tracking  one with flight number  TOM179P going to  La Romana in Dominican Republic landing in 25 mins.  I think maybe to pick up some of  Discovery  Manchester passengers. If true  they will have had a long coach journey from Amber cove of about  150 miles or so. will keep an eye  on it.

  7. Hiya Kenny,  yes Marella Discovery is very good been on her 4 times. there is a variety of gluten free stuff  and  crew in dining areas  will answer any concerns  about that.  we have used iglu  a couple of times and they were ok with us.

Enjoy and dont worry you will have a great time.

  8. hi NIX70,  we go in September for the 2 week cruise and we have booked the Cape  Canaveral space centre, it is a 7 hour long trip so we do it on the middle Sunday ( change over day ) as we will be in port all day long.  I cant see Marella  doing the space centre trip for departing passengers, also it is a very popular trip and it is most likely booked up when you looked.  The ask the shorex team is if they have cancellations. Its no help i know.   Enjoy the cruise and let us know how you get on.

  9. Hi,    I have just looked  on cruise mapper and it has Marella Discovery docked at  Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal all summer. SO we are planning to do a Ship tour of New York in September because google maps has the directions from  the port to  Central Park in Manhattan as 13.8 miles. The only good thing is we should have a good view of The Statue Of Liberty as we sail in  and out.   hope this helps.

  10. hi, We sail  on Discovery on the 9th March for 2 weeks.  We found out by chance our second week itinerary has changed. we did a dummy booking for the 16th March and saw the first week changed from what our e ticket e mail said.  We have not been told about it, maybe because we haven't booked any trips, we fully expect a note on the bed when we enter the cabin. lol

  11. Hi Toxteth,  there are 2 shows in the theatre at  8.30pm and then again at 10.30 pm to allow everyone  who goes to the main dinning room (MDR) for dinner to see a show if they want to.  The live room is a great place to watch live bands  and you can party in there past  1AM  or past 2AM   if that's your thing.

Bar 11 at the top of the ship is the night  club,  we have been known to stumble out of there after 3AM  In the past, it's also another great  place.  Take US $ to spend  ashore  but get them  from home the ship exchange rate  is very poor.  Have a nice cruise.

  12. hi Howmuch.   yes got back today off Marella Discovery. we had a big empty  space  where our settee should have been. letter on the bed said  £100 refund and it was put on our account. it talked about supply issues.   we  were premium AI and  quite a few drinks in bars  were not available for same issue. alternatives  were there but had we known about it we would have just booked standard AI.

  13. hi  PJ s we came back off discovery today from  the Caribbean. yes you print off your boarding  passes and luggage labels  2/3 days before you go. you can only do it then on Marella  web site. The a 4 page for your luggage labels  is folded  in half then half again to give you a thin  strip of paper it shows you where to fold on the label, dead easy and i am internet dinosaur. to make the labels more sturdy i covered both sides with sellotape.  attach the labels to suitcases and carry on and put more sellotape to the ends. its like laminating them  works a treat.  cant print off your returning  boarding passes  they will do it at reception again 2 days before departure. your luggage labels will be provided  and will be in your cabin 2 days before leaving.   Ok thats it have   nice trip.
