Cooler does not get as cold as a fridge, though I read that the coolers on the newer ships do better.

Been on Monarch, Majesty, Navigator, Voyager, Oasis and Harmony. All of them had refrigerators in them, not coolers. They kept our bottled water ice cold. We've been on Viking Serenade twice but I don't really remember any type of cooler/fridge in the cabin.

The reviews of tours I’ve read make it sound like they spend a lot of time in the galley and not much time in the other areas.  I seem to be in the minority but that is a big price to pay for a tour of what really amounts to a commercial kitchen.

Yes, a lot of time was spent in the galley, however, there is a lot to see, there. For example, I did not know that the wait staff has access to a full bar located in the galley and are capable of making their own drinks for the diners.

Weird!  We did this tour on Symphony, including I-95, and saw no crew members smoking at all...

Symphony may be different. I don't know the specifics of smoking/non smoking zones below deck 4 but we could not escape the smoke, especially in the corridor, it was bad.

  4. We did the tour on Harmony. Took almost 4 hours. Pants have to be worn, don't know why. Probably because you'll be taken down into the ship's refrigeration storage and it's pretty cold down there. We got to see the Kitchen, prep areas, engine control room, crews quarters, crew mess, crew bar, food storage, laundry, recycling system and the bridge. I think it was well worth the money. Keep in mind, you'll be searched (scanned) probably twice before you get to the bridge.

Also, the main crew corridor down below (they call it I-95) is a full-on crew smoking area. You'll be spending a lot of time down there so if cigarette smoke is bothersome to you, I wouldn't book it. Had I known this before hand, I would not have gone. There should be a warning about this before one books it. All-in-all, though, it was interesting.

On our upcoming 7 night cruise, the package is $47.00 per person.  This is the lowest I have EVER seen it on any cruise I've been on, probably going to take it.  I also saw on another thread about drink packages that the price could go down into the 30's (high 30's at that).  So that makes it even more affordable.

I see it on Royal right now for $44

  6. Next time you're in the Windjammer, take a look around and see if you can notice the dozens of passengers coughing and hacking into their hand, and then touching all of the serving spoons. It's an ongoing problem. The most vile part of the entire ship is right there on that serving spoon.

I love tee-shirts and shorts. I don't cut in front of anyone, and I always wait until those that need to exit the elevator do so, before I go in. In fact, I am usually verbal to the ones that don't. Also... I can afford as many cruises as I want.

    So much for your theory.

I said "with a broad stroke". Never said I was covering the entire canvas.

Yes, I painted with a pretty broad stroke. Deserving, though. After all, it is statistics. I don't have the exact numbers but it's extremely high, the number of passengers on a cruise ship that are spending money they don't have. Again, with a very broad stroke of my brush, these are the same people wearing shorts and tee-shirts in the MDR and being rude and inconsiderate to fellow passengers. Never used to be that way.

  9. It's not just the dress code. It's the entitlement attitudes of these exact same people who are on a cruise they probably can't afford anyway. Do the tee-shirts and shorts bother me in the MDR? Of course they do because these are the same people that are going to be cutting in front of me in line and bursting onto an elevator before anybody gets off. These will be the most inconsiderate passengers on the ship, you'll see.

  10. Yes, I remember. When you stepped aboard the ship, there was no question that you were an honored and valued guest, and you were treated as such. Now, you're just a paying customer, nothing more. I remember when cruising was a bit of a "high brow" affair. Nowadays, the ships are filled with all kinds of rude, disrespectful people with no regard for other passengers. I've never seen so much "trailer trash" on a ship in my life. I'm sure it's not just Royal.

Disappointing. The sad part is, it will never change.

Weird.  I did 9 night Navigator in April of this year and wore shorts to Chops, Izumi, and Sabor.  I think I only wore pants 1 or 2 nights for dinner time.  Your profile says Coral Springs; I am a few minutes up the road - nice shorts are year round here; I only wear pants for paychecks.

Hello, neighbor. Yea, I was stunned as well, but I wasn't about to stand there and argue with the hostess. I did quickly glance around and didn't see anybody else in shorts, either. Oh well.
