We'd have to drink enough the other days to make up the difference 😄 We don't sail out of Texas, so have not had to do this, but definitely see why you would not but Cheers until the second day.

You can't buy Cheers for the fist day out of Galveston.  The package there begins on the second day.  You are not charged for Cheers the first day.

You can buy any alcoholic drink that is offered that day and of course all the non-alcoholic drinks you want.  You simply pay for them.

We came to that same conclusion. I am hoping our March 2022 one sails, though.

I'm with you.  We booked a March 22 Sailabration cruise shortly after it was announced and still hope to be on it.

Meanwhile I still have a September cruise on the books but will cancel it unless Carnival cancels it first.

  3. You have to pay at the time you book the excursions, drink packages, specialty dining, etc.  If you want to pay with your OBC you have to wait until you are on board to purchase.

It might be reasonable not to pre-pay your gratuities, letting your OBC cover them, and to pre-purchase drink packages at a discount and pre-book excursions if you are worried about availability.

    Happy sailing.

Just to confirm-  cancellation OBC can be used for gratuities?   So it is just the travel agent OBC that can't be used for grats?   Sorry for the stupid question, but I've only had TA OBC.

Yes it can be used for gratuities.  Simply don't pre-pay your gratuities.  They will be charged to your on board account, and the $600. OBC will be applied against them.

  5. It has been my experience that any portion of the cruise fare paid for by credit card will be refunded to that card, and all amounts paid for by gift cards will be refunded with one new gift card.

Pre-paid excursions including FTTF, and any Fun Shop purchases, will be refunded in the same way.

I would say more of a realistic look would be fourth Quarter of this year 2021, If not and i am wrong, the major lines will not survive without having to file....

Fourth quarter sounds possible to me, though it seems opimistic.  I couldn't go so far as probable.  But I'm definitely hopeful.

After living through raising three teenage girls into adulthood I've learned to hedge my bets.

I was initially all about the OBC. $600 bucks was (and still could be) a sweet offer, as I plan to cruise again. Cover my gratuities, drinks, and a few meals. Maybe I didn't care as much because it was paid for in credit card points to begin with. I was ok if pricing surged a little. If the cruising halt would have been over already, how cool would it have been to have that?

For my recently cancelled cruise, I just took the refund. This shutdown is excessive. It becomes increasingly riskier each passing day to tie up that much money in a credit. When will we cruise again? What is the price going to be? Will the cruise lines have to declare bankruptcy? It's sad really.

I took a refund for the first time on my recently cancelled April cruise for many of the same reasons.  It is sad.

C'mon BMAS....You really feel down in the center of your gut that Carnival is going to go bankrupt.  Worst cast scenario after vaccines increase and test cruises happen by end of summer is that there will be multiple ships from the fleet sailing by Christmas.

I don't think Carnival will go bankrupt but a reorganization will not surprise me.

We all come into this time in different ways and none of us knows what cruising will be like when it does resume.  I currently have three on the books, the last scheduled for April of 22.  After having three cancelled I have decided to get off the cancel-reschedule merry-go-round.

I'm afraid you are correct 😪 I still have one booked for May 8, 2021 that I'm sure will be canceled in the coming weeks.

I am expecting my September 19 cruise to be cancelled.  It's hard to see cruises sailing this fall, given where we are right now.

I totally get your frustration. Hubby and I (both 68) have decided to get off this merry-go-round and take the refund this time. The downside is that we will have about $4000 in Carnival gift cards to use when we feel it is safe to do so.  Just hoping Carnival doesn’t go bankrupt and that we live long enough to use them.

I made the same decision with my recently cancelled April cruise.  Also I'm in the same boat with gift cards with questionable future value.

    Time will tell.
