  1. Oh- seems I forgot to mention, all swimming pools get scraped to the sheer metall-  so totaly redone- from bottom up. That also needs to be done- I just saw the condition of the Polls on Deck 6 and 8 when they where closed and empthied out on the evening prior arriving in Hamburg.

Ugh- the mint green colour- if they would such an outlandish thing- QM2 should be renamed in

    " Peppermint Twist 2" LOL.

  2. I just dissembarked QM2 last Sunday. I had a wonderful voage- from Quebec to Hamburg. Yes- Mary needs the current refit- badly- the hull - all chairs in QR and Britannia- most all carpets are worn out.

Did that disturb my voyage- experience- NO IT DID NOT!

QM2 is such a comfortable- cosy- yet elegant ship that those signs of wear and tear are not that significant- well at least not for me.

I had a nice talk ( I mentioned that on another thread already) with the Hotel Manager during the Senior Officers cocktail party. All carpets will be redone, all chairs upholsterd, all lighting renewed, the parket floor in QR completely redone. All cabins will get better wifi signals.

So we may see Mary again in a different colour sheme ( inside) . Can´t wait to see the first pictures.

Mid voyage they closed up part of Deck 8, including the laundry room. When we docked in New York- all the debris from those cabins where offloaded- so I expect the cabins- well some of them at least will be redone. So in other words they started to dismantel on the way.

3,5 weeks are not that long- so not everyhting can be taken care of. Anyway- they embarked part of the 700 contractors already in NY. I am also sure all cabins get new USB electric outlets. Very dated in the Britannia cabins, except for those cabins installed in the 2016 refit.

Food and Service - well nothing to complain about- except for the last dinner in Britannia- that service really was almost catasrophic. I had some stern, but polite words with the Maitre after dinner.

  3. QM 2 still going on 26 Kn. Taking it in her stride- since leaving NY the winds are Beaufort 7 to 9 - for me the perfect Crossing- today the first day with a bit of sun- sitting in Golden Lion sometimes looking out the windows was like watching a washing machine!
During the Seniors Officers Party I had a nice talk about the upcoming Refit and what will be done !
New carpets everywhere- all chairs get new upholstery - Parket in QR totally redone and technical things - and of course the hull gets done!
Yes all those things NEED to be be done! Mary feels so comfortable and stylish- still - so those worn carpets and chairs do not bother me at all! Service and food are excellent- Internet a hit and miss!
So yes - again I love every minute of the crossing !

  4. All good we are under way since before 10 am. Internet not online until the afternoon! We sail at a speed  of 25 kn. Currently and will speed up even more - so we will make it to Soto in time! All in good moods- there was the fear that we had to disembark in NY but fortunately that was not the case!

  5. Pushpit - I really really like your attitude- that´s is exactly how one should take things- see the good and cope with the bad- or the things that went wrong. 13 more days and I will board QM2 again- well first the long fly to Quebec- with a 5 hours overlay in Montreal- so a long day- but - at the end of the day is an overnight in Quebec board QM2 the next. So I will take it in my stride.

  6. ...please get no pictures into my head about someone doing - whatever- without proper covering. It is very very rare that people can afford to do- whatever - with or without CCTV !

  7. Since I switch from X to Cunard, with the occaisonall MSC- voage throwen in- and visa verse, I only can report that the passengers on board a Cunarder always dress much nicer and more elegant. Some do not- some more some less- but overall- the more formal dresscode makes for a nice ambiance. For those who walk around rather causual- not stay sloppy - well that does not bother me at all. There business- not mine.

One has just to take a closer look how the people these days dress for- let´s say shopping- unbelievable- all has to be connvinient- mostly lounge wear- same goes for shoes- trainers, trainers  and if not some old worn out slip ons- like Birkenstock.

I never sail in the Grills- much to expensive for better food and only a small part of the ship reserved for Grills. The QM2 is such a wonderful ship it would be a shame just to stick in the Grills lounges etc. When sailing MSC I only sail in Yacht Club 2000 or 3000 passengers more than on a Cunarder of the same size- is unbearable for me. LOL.

  8. A true prommenade deck is in my book a prommenade with a view that is not blocked by lifeboats.

S and E- Class ships of X does not have that. M- Class has a nice prommenade - starboard and port - no wrap around though. That is fine with me. The best prommenade dekcs are on board Cunard ships- with the Queen Mary 2 in the lead. Best ever prommenade deck.

The Seaside Class of MSC have a wonderful prommenade- it is wide and very well thought through- comes very close to QM2´s - it´s almost as walking " beside" the ship.

  9. It is really amazing what they have done with Coco Cay- I remember it as nice and tranquil beach day- those pictures with all the amusment stuff look wonderful for familes with kids.

It seems to me the " Wonderful day at Coco cay" can only achieved when paying extra.

As for Meyer Werft redoing the IF- cabins on board Edge Class- hm I also think that was a joke. I only book an Edge Class ship if can grap a SV - cabin. Had that on board Apex and that one of the best cabins i ever had.

The should have mixed their balcony cabins- as some seem ( me included) not really to like them.

  10. Queens Grill aside- I would never book a Queen Anne voyage before I have seen the whole product.

When she really turns out like the Cunard version of the Nieuw Statendam ( or any of those ships) I will possibly never sail on QA. The worst ship layout ever- no proper prommenade deck, many lounges with no windows- I could go on...!

For me the purpose of sea travel is to actually SEE the ocean,  not spending in an enclosed environment.

  11. I was on the same voyage as Host Hattie, Anytime dining- or open dining - worked like charme. Made my appointment for the next or the following days via myvoage. Not one minute to wait - always very nice tables. Even when I asked for a really single table- not those with three pairs in a row, it worked great.

  12. Steve, I hear you- and I agree- those chairs a bit tight for my ample rear end as well. LOL. One get´s used to it- and can avoid the embarassing sight of me leaving Britannia with the chair still attached to my behind. LOL.

Well,  those chairs have their best years behind them anyway- and I supoose they will either be upholsered or changed in the not distant future.

Same goes for the chairs in the QR.
