  1. Just got an alert from my agency that the following sail date has dropped:

    April 11, 2015 - Oasis Western (inside cabin) $608 taxes/ports included (CDN$)

I have been monitoring prices for April 2015 and this appears to be one of the better ones, but I am a newbie so I really have no idea.

Now, I'm not sure which deck/stateroom this is, but to those who have sailed under the main public areas, can you hear the noise at night?

  2. As far as the photos go, I don't recall whether there was an unlimited package or not. There were definitely packages and promos that they advertised, but I didn't pay much attention to the specifics. There was a USB thumb drive option, but I understood it to require physical purchases as well. The drive was a $20 surcharge I believe, and would give you digital copies of the photos you purchased. I didn't notice any candid photographers, all photos were in front of a back drop or were in the dining areas / action areas / gangways.

    For the drinks...

While Jane was awesome, I don't think she was doing anything out of the ordinary. Especially because most of the time the servers just gave us 6 sealed bottles in a bucket. We could do whatever we wanted from that point.

I can't speak for NCLs policy on bringing up two cards, but I can say it did work on Carnival.

Hope his helps! Let me know if you have other questions.

How much were bottles of water on the ship? This beverage packages seems quite limited in terms of what it actually includes compared to RCCL's package.

Are you able to bring water on board?

  4. My hubby turns 40 next April and we decided to do a trip instead of a big party for him.

I have been researching and reading these forums like crazy for two months. Since he has never cruised before and I only once on a RC 3-night party cruise, we are total newbies to cruising.

Right away, I was drawn to Oasis/Allure ships, but are we in over our heads for such big ships first time around? Should we be looking at the next lower class (Freedom)?

We like to be busy at night and laze around during the day by the pool/sun deck. We are travelling with another couple the same age as we are.

Also, we will be looking to book around Nov/Dec timeframe. Do the prices "usually" drop down a bit at that time or any deals?

Any advice from cruisers who have done both class of ships is most welcome!!

    Thanks,

    Heather

  5. Do you remember the name of the Helmet Dive excursion? Cost? Was it a cruise line excursion or third party?

After lunch we went back out and did our sort of spur of the moment excursion. Something came across me yesterday and I was just swept away with all of the water and I decided that we just had to get UNDER the water! It may have had to do with watching the list of excursion options on the tv in the cabin! But we booked a Helmet Dive and it was time to go! This was slightly different from Snuba, and I had remembered reading some reviews on this particular tour operator before we went. So, here we go!

We met our group right at the dock by the ship. There were 13 people booked, small group. Our captain took care of the paperwork and off we went. He was quite the eccentric type. On our way out to our "dive" site he went over the helmet procedure and also talked quite in depth about the reef system and fish we may get to see. You could tell just how passionate he is about the ocean and its inhabitants!

When we anchored we were divided into two groups. We were in the first group. We had to put on wet suits, which was interesting. We got our instructions and down we went! We were only in about 10-12 feet of water and it was a very controlled environment.

The first 20 minutes or so were spent with Greg, the captain, feeding a the fish and taking our pictures in groups. We always had our hands on a bar so that we would be right in the same spot - no wandering off! He's been going to the same spot for years so the fish know him and come right up to him and his passengers. They will nuzzle you and let you "pet" them. Kinda cool actually!

  6. I feel like due to the sheer size of the Oasis, leaving the boat while in port doesn't make sense. How on earth would you even get to see the whole thing! If we are not doing any excursion off the boat, is there really much point in disembarking? I've checked out the St Thomas, St. Maarten stuff and it looks kinda boring.

My only cruise our ports were CoCoCay, Nassau (we went to Atlantis for the day) and Key West, which was a fun day.

  7. A Newbie here!

I have been on one 3-4 day shorty to Bahamas on RCL 7 years ago, but that is the extent of my cruise experience.

We are going away next spring for Hubby's 40th and we were looking into a cruise instead of an AI.

We are two couples in our late 30's (except hubby hehe) and like to be out late and be busy when on vacay.

The two above ships have caught my eye.

Can anyone weigh in on their experiences on one or both ships? I'm leaning towards the Oasis, I love all of the neighbourhoods!

    Thanks!
