  1. To the OP - we're on the same cruise (January 11th) and I've heard about the lack of heat. It's still pretty warm in Florida and hopefully we won't be in the cold jet stream for very long. But I'm certainly bringing a mix of warm and cold weather clothes. Might even bring a blanket with me. Anyway - I'm usually hot on a cruise ship - so the cool temperature will be a welcome change for me. But I understand your concern.

  2. I'll let you know. I've been on 5 RCL cruises (from Allure down to Majesty) and enjoyed all of them (with a few negatives along the way.) I'm excited to try my first Carnival cruise in two weeks. I've heard good and bad things - (as I had with RCL) but I am anxious to form my own opinion.

  3. I rarely drink at home, but when I'm on a cruise, and I've purchased the drink package (only been on RCL so far - but sailing on Ecstasy in 2 weeks) and have NEVER been disappointed. The first time we cruised, we didn't purchase the drink package and were saddled with a large bill of "incidentals" - a soda here, a coffee drink there, drink of the day, etc. It ended up being more than the price of the package. We made the most of the drink package without "getting drunk." Instead we enjoyed the freedom knowing that we could relax and order things we wouldn't normally order at home. Isn't that the point of being on vacation - doing things you wouldn't do at home? We tried specialty cocktails. Enjoyed a martini before dinner. Purchased a shot of espresso at the coffee bar and brought it to a bartender who made it into a wonderful concoction. All without worrying about the dreaded bill at the end of the cruise.

No one can predict whether it will be worth it for you, specifically. Everyone will have their two cents. My two cents is "GO FOR IT!"

Anyway, now that my little secret is out, let's talk about my writing. If you're not familiar with my review style, consider yourself lucky. It's not appropriate for women, children, small animals, men of the cloth, virgins, people who wear sweater vests, or really anybody with any decency or intelligence. If you're still here after reading that, shame on you. Also, we should be friends.

You're my new spirit animal. I shall channel you often through my first Carnival cruise in January. I too love to offend small animals and men of the cloth!

  5. So - I'm going on my first Carnival cruise in January. I've only ever cruised on RCL.

I'm guessing that it's okay to wear shorts and T-Shirts in the MDR - especially on Formal night. I've heard Carnival is more lax about that stuff.

I usually share a drink package with a friend in another cabin. You know - to save money.

I like to head to the pool, drop my stuff and then go to the casino for a bit. My stuff will be safe for a couple of hours, right?

    and lastly,

It's okay for me to smoke on my balcony, right?

    (Nothing about this is serious.)

This thread has been extremely helpful. Thanks to everyone!

  6. Did you get off the ship at night in Nassau? If so, did you feel safe? How was the food? Thanks in advance!

We did not get off the ship in Nassau this trip. (I have already been in Nassau on my last Enchantment cruise.) I felt totally safe during the day. Why would you not feel safe? Nassau is very tourist friendly. Just be cautious as you would in any port. Don't take a lot of cash. Keep your money ON you - not in a purse or something easily stolen. (I would say the same things about NYC. :) )

The food was quite good, though I really disliked that the Majesty didn't have a Chops or Portofino's. But the food in the MDR ranged from good to quite good even a few dishes that were delicious.

    Hope you enjoy the trip!

  7. Just wanted to post my thoughts on our three night on the Majesty this past weekend. To be honest, we needed two Crown and Anchor points, I'm a teacher and had a four day weekend and Port Canaveral is a two hour drive away. That being said, we had a wonderful cruise. She is well kept and loved by the crew, who were some of the most personable fleet wide, imo. I admit to being leery of the smaller ship as I truly prefer Oasis class but Majesty was "cute", which was the word that kept coming up and I mean that in the kindest of ways. So not to get lengthy here, if you are considering the Majesty and need a little positive affirmation, I will be happy to answer any questions. Bottom line, we had a great cruise on the Majesty and would recommend:)

My sister and I were on that cruise this weekend as well - and we really enjoyed it. I can't say that it was my absolute favorite ship - but it was certainly not my least favorite. It was clean, well maintained - and like you said - some of the most personable crews we've ever experienced. My sister and I will probably both write a more in depth review shortly, but I wanted to agree with your sentiments! :-) Glad you had a wonderful cruise!

  8. I know you can go to Guest Services and put a spending limit on kid's SeaPass cards, but my understanding was that the limit did not apply to the arcade.

That's what we've been told on every ship we've sailed (Allure, Freedom, Independence, Rhapsody, etc.)

They told us the "daily limit" never applied to the arcade.

  9. "Never have seen a Casino only card. We use our SeaPass with a sticker on it from the Casino Host"

We have them. They are Royal Blue and just say Casino Royale on them. We used to put them into the machines and then we could give the cocktail server our sea pass for the drinks/package. Then two cruises ago on Freedom - they told us they were not using them any more. We hated having to take our cards out of the machine for drinks - so we asked for duplicate cards. They gave them to us. :-)

  10. Latest update

They have been loading life jackets since 4am. Shuttle is up and running to coco beach today; hope to depart late this afternoon. Guests to be on board by noon at this time.

RCI is giving a refundable OBC of 25% of your cruise fare. Also, a certificate for 25% of current cruise fare discount on a future cruise. Hopefully this can be applied to current bookings as I already booked my next cruise onboard. :-)

All is all, this is about as generous as I could expect and a fair resolution. I am still an RCI fan.

So - was it that there weren't enough life vests or that the ones on board were faulty? (Or do we even know?)

Not that it matters - it needs to be fixed. Just wondering.

  11. See them all, there's a different show every night. No reservations needed, first come, first served.

And - when in doubt, do what Bob (Clarea) says. He'll never steer you wrong!

But seriously, if you like the shows - try and see all of them. Including the ice show, Love and Marriage, etc. They're all different and well done.

  12. So far - Freedom is our favorite ship. The Oasis class are too big (for us) and the smaller ships tend to do shorter itineraries and lack some basic amenities.. Freedom was just right. And we really enjoyed the shows. It doesn't have Cats or Grease or Mamma Mia, but they're still high quality and quite enjoyable.

It all depends on what you're looking for in a cruise and where you're looking to go. If you need the latest and greatest bells and whistles, I'd go with Harmony, Oasis or Allure. If not - Freedom is a GREAT ship.

  13. Do we know there is no compensation? Seems like this came up recently in Miami and people got something. Two factors make it a little more cruicial, if I may use that word. This is either a 3 day or 4 day cruise and people with drink packages lose a significant amount of time.

Agreed! I could do a lot of damage on the drink package between 11(ish) and 5:30-6:00!! Even at one drink per hour, that's about 6 drinks (at $11-12 per drink.) Not to fuel the fire - but that would be pretty upsetting.
