  1. Geez!! I haven't even boarded yet...how can they know what they'll have to fix when I leave!! [emoji12]

Previous experience. :p They also probably figure it'll be difficult to get you off the ship. It usually is.

Hey - I wonder if that means we can get off the ship later! (Kidding - I know they want us off as soon as possible to perform the maintenance and get the ship boarded again.)

  2.

I think there should be a separate exit area for privileged people, for whatever reason. It would be faster for them also.

Agreed. This will keep the "we're all in this line together" mentality. It may be taking a while - but it's taking us ALL a while.

Also - seeing people go ahead of me in line would never "convince" me to pay more for a suite. There are many wonderful suite perks - that one isn't high on my list.

  3. Your first cruise is always kinda special, and mine was on Majesty. My mom called and said "Hey, wanna go on a cruise? 4 nights, $376 including the fees and taxes, and you get your own room?"

How could I say no? :)

Funny - our very first cruise was probably our least favorite. We were on Allure, and it was WAY too big for us to start out on. Then we hit Freedom. Ah the Freedom! SHE will hold a very special place in our hearts. Then Enchantment which we liked. Next up - MAJESTY. I'm finding I like the smaller ships. However, I am disappointed that Majesty does not have a specialty dining venue (other than JR) like Chops or Giovanis. We've loved them both on separate ships.

I just hope that my liver is ready for the challenge. Based on the most recent "live periscope" review - there is a lot of drinking to be done. Better start practicing now!

  4.

That being said, while many non-smokers may claim that Royal loses their money as they wont gamble in a smoking casino......most nights on my cruises it was hard to find a open machine to gamble on.....smoker or not they were almost all taken and busy.

Same is true on every cruise I have been on. The policy will probably not change as long as the casinos are packed.

  5. RANDOM THOUGHTS

-I really enjoyed the Majesty. I think it’s perfect for a 3 or 4 night cruise and I look forward to more sailings on this great little ship.

-I’m not sure I would do a 7-night or longer cruise unless there were some specialty restaurants added. I just can’t do the MDR/WJ for 7 straight nights. Thankfully Chops and Izumi are reportedly both going to be added so hopefully problem solved!

-I would ditch the Compass Deli and make it a Park Cafe. It seems like an easy fix. Adding Park Cafe, Chops and Izumi would make me want to sail this ship every year.

-There was an Izumi to Go table set up in the Schooner Bar during the Super Bowl.

-I used to think that I ‘needed’ a Royal Promenade. Well after my Norwegian Escape, Grandeur and Majesty sailings in the past 12 months, I no longer feel that way. I still love the RP however I don’t feel like I ‘need’ it anymore.

-This was our first time at CocoCay and I hope it’s not the last. I really enjoyed it there. The water was much nicer than the water at Labadee and the floating bar is such a great idea.

    - On our last night Courtney shocked me when we were walking down the hallway and she said “I really like this ship”. She loves the Freedom and Oasis class so I was really surprised that she enjoyed it as much as she did.

-It took exactly 7 minutes to go from the curb to the Centrum on day one. Pretty impressive.

-We carried our own bags off. It took 27 minutes from the time we left our room until we were outside waiting for our ride.

-I loved the wild crowd on this 3-nighter. And it wasn’t just the younger ones that were plastered. We saw a ton of older folks all liquored up and enjoying themselves. I loved it! I can only imagine what a 3-night Carnival cruise is like.

-The pool was never crowded. We didn’t have any real sea days and the water was a little cold (not for me) but it was never too packed in there.

-I have no complaints about the service anywhere on the ship. The staff was outstanding.

NEXT UP: Navigator of the Seas for a 9-night ABC islands cruise on March 3rd.

    Thanks for following along.

    Tim

Great summation! Exactly what I needed to hear. Can't wait to see my own set of plastered people - young and old!

  6. Depends on the mood and the desired drink.

Pool day - the Squeeze bar. Great barstools to sit on.

Before MDR - the R-Bar. Great martinis and comfy seats

Lively after dinner - Bull and Bear. Great music and lots of choices.

    Mellow after dinner - Schooner

Drunken bad decisions - Casino bar.

  7. Question for you all:

I choose to have the drink package when I cruise. Personally, I know that I'll come out ahead - just on alcohol. (Judge away. :D)

However, BECAUSE I have the package, I also tend to order fresh squeezed orange juice at breakfast, the drink of the day (I'm not a fruity drink fan), and the after dinner shot - without the glass - back when they were offered. Without the package I wouldn't ever spend the money on things like that. SO -

IF - you use the drink package, do you order drinks/coffees/etc. that you wouldn't normally get at home? And if so, are you doing so just to "get your money's worth?"

    or

IF - you don't use the drink package, are there drinks/coffees/etc that you WOULD love to get, but they're not worth the price? But would normally order on land?

  8. My husband and I have been on a few RC cruises, Freedom (2x) Enchantment (2x) and our very first cruise was on Monarch. We have also been on 2 Holland America ships. We are taking my daughter and son-in-law and our 3 grandchildren (boy-15, girls 11 and 8) on the Majesty this summer, this will be their first cruise.

I know Majesty is an older and smaller ship and I am prepared for that and hoping to not be disappointed. With this being the families first cruise, I believe they will enjoy it, and our enjoyment will be watching them.

We will be on a 4 day cruise. My questions:

    1. Will there be plenty for the kids to occupy them? Does the new kids pool have age limits?

    2. I will be looking for a hotel/park package with a shuttle to the port, any suggestions.

    3. What is the condition of the ship?

    4. Best excursion while in Nassau that kids will enjoy. They are all 3 excellent swimmers, so I expect we will need to find something involving the water.

Last, but not least, please reassure me that this older lady will be better than what I have read!!

Any positive feedback will be GREATLY appreciated.

We usually stay at the Residence Inn by the port and they have an excellent hotel/park package. And they have a great shuttle to take you to the port! Highly recommend.

As for kids activities, I recommend stopping by the Adventure Ocean on the first day to get them signed up. (Even if they don't go - they will at least have the option.) Our DD (5) LOVED it.

  9. Our first cruise was on Allure (close to Oasis) and then Freedom (2x) and then Enchantment. (Next up - Majesty.)

Our favorite would probably be the Freedom, but we had a fantastic time on Enchantment. It all depends on your itinerary, your interests and your expectations. There are a lot of "bells and whistles" on the Oasis class that we just didn't use. We felt that the big big ships had too many people. Enchantment was a great little ship with just enough amenities for what we were looking for.

If you are looking for LOTS of dining options, lots of activities, and lots of different entertainment options, then the Oasis class is right for you. If you are cruising to relax, have a special meal every now and then, and explore the ports, then the Enchantment will be just perfect. You can have a great cruise on almost any ship, just know what to expect.

  10. I know it sucks that no one answers -

Now - I've never been on Liberty, but I have been on Allure, Freedom, Enchantment and in two weeks the Majesty. And we spend most of our time in the casino (hence the screen name.)

I know which machines you're talking about (from Vegas) and I have not seen them in any casino on any ship. The machine selection is pretty similar across the ships that I've been on, so I would think not.

We usually found a machine or two that we were partial to. Good luck and happy cruising.

  11. This has come up for us on longer sailings since we have friends who dine with us and we are trying to plan out when we want to eat in MDR and when in a specialty. We generally are able to get the concierge to get the menus themselves for us, and line them up in the proper order. (I should mention that several of said friends are Ps, so maybe this is a courtesy that not everyone might expect?) If no concierge access, perhaps a question to the Maitre d'?

Thanks! Was really hoping to find out before boarding. :-)

  12. Tried doing a search but couldn't find this. Does RCCL have caffeine free soda' date=' or can I carry my own on board? I think it can be cans only, but just wanted to make sure. I even drink the "pretend" caffeine free coffee.

Headed out on Feb 3 on Majesty for a long overdue cruise.[/quote']

Sprite? Root Beer? (Both caffeine free. :p)

I'm pretty sure the Majesty has the Coke Freestyle machines. (You'd have to have the soda package.) They have a number of caffeine free sodas.

  13. This thread may be one of the most entertaining ones I've read.....I'm literally laughing.

To answer one of the questions by the OP, there are fake cigarettes used in theater and I would assume movies and tv shows. I would imagine they're similar to a vape cigarette and most likely have none of the bad things that real cigs have. That would be a lot to ask of an actor to pick up on an extremely addictive habit for the sake of a show, not to mention exposing cast and the audience to it. So while it looks real, I would bet they're using props instead of the real thing.

And I also agree w/ a previous poster....the smoking is probably the least offensive thing in that show/movie. I still love it and have watched it since I was a kid. I'm a smoker...but thankfully didn't give up my morals to impress a boy nor have a teenage pregnancy scare. Or steal things. Or have multiple partners. :p

Not sure about the RCL production, but the stage actor's union (AEA) forbids the use of real tobacco onstage, even if the actor smokes. Never have to worry about cigarettes being real onstage.

But as for being hypocritical - again - I suggest seeing Chicago and watching a girl become famous for killing her lover just to try and keep it from her husband. We don't condone that, do we? (And they usually smoke onstage in that as well.) Or Mamma Mia, when a girl tries to find her father who is one of three men her mom was sleeping with at the time of conception and invite them to her wedding. (No smoking in MMia, but a disturbing amount of 70s leisure suits and platform shoes.)

I'll admit - this is one of my favorite threads so far!
