Yes, as you said you only had insurance when you were "compelled " to have it.

There are plenty of foreign holidays where insurance is not compulsory,  so therefore,  by your own admission,  you will not take out  insurance.

    I only cruise.

"We" are her family who have powers of attorney and have had to sign personal individual authorities to allow her to have medical aid.

I was not allowed to leave the port without paying (me not her) Princess medical bill in the sum of $4,700.

Of course we could have refused to sign and accept liability but strangely we rather wanted to keep her alive!!

Good job she wasn't a solo traveller then.

You have probably raised the blood pressure of all solo cruisers, so hopefully they will let their insures aware of that.

Well, for a start, medical costs whilst on holiday

You only need to read Megabear's posts about her aunt to see that it is very easy to run up a bill in excess of £50k.

I've got medical insurance. I said I have insurance where I am compelled to have. You need insurance to travel with P&O.

    I am one!!!!!!!

So your Aunt has a medical problem that the insurance may not be willing to pay out for, and you say "we" are going to get sued. Who are we? I'd love to know how anyone other than your Aunt could possibly be liable for any costs.

Thanks for the rant!  FYI we have been told if insurance won't pay out we will be sued if we fail to pay. No ifs, no buts legal action commenced in three months.  Luckily we do have the necessary funds available if required and they run into tens of thousands even allowing for GHIC cover.  You too may have the necessary monies and good luck to you, others however may not.

You clearly think all insurance is a waste of money - no contents cover on your home is not one I see often.  Good luck, hope you don't get unwell on holiday, have a fire, get burgled, flooded or struck by lightning!

    You need a better lawyer.

  6. Aarhus is a great place. One of the largest cargo ports in Northern Europe.

Some of the many attractions, which are a short walk from your ship, include, thousands of shipping containers, huge cranes, and lots of seagulls, which frequently dump white stuff , which can almost make you believe it's snowing.

    What's not to like?

    E-mail states operational reasons!!!!!

    Never!!

I heard you have Anneka Rice on board. Before you leave each port she hands your Captain a sealed envelope. He then opens the said envelope, and therein lies a clue. He's then got to guess where the next port of call is.

Unfortunately he guessed wrong this time and hence no Torshaven.

BTW don't get spooked if a Helicopter lands on the ship, nobody is getting airlifted, it's just Anneka leaving.

I have had an e-mail about the pilots from the  Officer in charge. We have been told that Britannia can only be piloted in during daylight. This means the pilots come on board at 5.30 am and the transition time is 5 hours giving a berthing time of 10.30 am. Apparently the claim by P&O re the 'availability' of pilots is hogwash. .

    Thought so.

With respect your timings are not correct as of today. The Stockholm Port Authority have told me  that the timings of arrival are 10.30am on the 23rd and the departure is 2.45 on the 24th. These are the times they have been given by P&O as of today.I still wonder where your timings come from as we cannot find any?

Well I'm sure the Stockholm Port Authority know more than I do. Though I cannot reveal my source, I'm sure that are not making these times up. I will be interested to see how accurate the itinerary I have given you turns out to be.

Looks like it will be a great cruise whatever. I'm on the very next one, and have a number of plans already afoot for self touring, using the same sources timings, so I hope he/she is fairly accurate.

No. We don't arrive in Stockholm until 10.30 and leave at 2.45 the following day. Pilot availability is the reason given.Where did you get these times from as Stockholm Port Authority say they have had no times until two days ago when they were changed from 'morning' of the 23rd and 'afternoon' on the 24th.

My source tells me that the Pilots wanted to watch the Serbia v Sweden Nations Cup football game, which was scheduled for a late afternoon kick off, and they feared they might miss it. However the kick off is now 7.45 pm, and so none of the pilots would miss the match.

I think my timings for your itinerary are correct as of this time.

Please beware that times and ports may be changed due to operational reasons or ***** ups.

We have had two original vaccines and the first booster in November 2021.  I am unclear whether this is sufficient as I read last week that you should have had a booster within 9 months of the end of your cruise.  We are looking at January 2023 but a bit hesitant as we do not want any further boosters.  Does anyone know any more about this?

If you don't want to have anymore boosters, can we have them please?

They are indeed arguing. Meantime 7 potential wedding guests scrambling to find a way to Ireland is becoming a farce. Add to the conundrum the groom's mother and father had their flights cancelled by BA last week so hurried rebooking led them to Ryanair with no luggage availability from Stansted arriving on Wednesday past so they are at least in Ireland. Their wedding outfits however are not as they were with my brother in law going by ferry ... apparently cant even send the clothing by courier at this stage due to not clearing customs in time.

On a more serious note we are now dealing with two travel insurance companies who appear to not know their arse from their elbow! Just waiting for the next one to come galloping over the horizon....

Really think my family are jinxed at present.

Sorry to hear this Megabear. You seem to be moving from one crisis to another right now. Surely things will improve soon. Good luck and keep your chin up.

Just checked my Staysure policy.  Republic of Ireland is clearly identified as being in Region Two (along with all other European countries)

Sounds like whoever dealt with the response had not read the Staysure policy !

You would think that with so many people on here using Staysure, that they would read these forums, and respond. Very poor.

I doubt there is one as they are all equally difficult to deal with. I'm not saying that anyone is good or bad and was merely pointing out they now use a third party to handle claims.

As I have said many times I'm not saying anyone is good or bad or what people should do.

Incidentally I was not using Trustpilot for anything other than a source on whether Staysure is still handling claims in-house as I had a vague recollection there was a change.  I'd ask you all not to shoot the messenger please, I've no axe to grind with anyone.  If this is going to descend to attacks on me then I'll simply step back.  I try to be helpful that's all.

    TERRIERJOHN:

Re your policy. If a policy has a major change you are normally advised, probably by email.  Rarely policies keep the same terms so it would be a good idea to have a chat or call with them.

Incidentally I was unaware of the change previously and my husband is with the sister company. When I'm back home I will check the matter with Avanti too.

I am certainly not attacking you Megabear, but your point is surely open to debate.

I answered your quote "Staysure have a new third party emergency team recently appointed.  Recent reviews of Davies & Co (the new third party) are pretty dire on Trustpilot."

Had you ended your quote at the end of the first sentence, then I would agree that you were merely pointing out they now use a third party to handle claims. However you then go on to quote how dire the reviews of Davies and Co are on trustpilot. I am merely pointing out that there are over 200,000 reviews regarding Staysure (little or no mention of Davies and Co) , and unless you have read them all to see how many are happy with how claims are handled, then I think your pointing to one star reviews is misleading.

Very few people will leave reviews after a claim has been settle satisfactorily, but folk are very quick to reach for the keyboard when things go wrong. Personally I don't like looking at reviews on major websites. I don't trust them.

Finally Megabear I do value your contribution to this site and do not intend to offend you in anyway. Don't let me or anyone else's opinions put you off posting.
