    What makes that original?

It is a rehash of the Feb 6 announcement by the port.

My goodness I thought surely you would have realized your mistake by now. I didn't realize I needed to send just the one sentence that disproves your understanding of the situation. Well here it is:  "The port will convert an existing cargo warehouse into the 165,000-square-foot cruise terminal,” the port said in a news release.

Below is from the Port if Galveston.  A new terminal will be built at a proposed cost of $56 million.

If only they had included one more sentence from the original quote.

    https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2024/02/25/4th-cruise-terminal-complex-coming-to-port-of-galveston/

“The port will develop the $100 million cruise terminal, $42 million parking garage, internal roadway and other improvements at Pier 16 beginning in early 2024. The estimated $142 million project will be funded with port cash reserves and revenue bonds. The port will convert an existing cargo warehouse into the 165,000-square-foot cruise terminal,” the port said in a news release.

“We’re able to begin this new project now because Del Monte Fresh Produce Co., a long-standing cargo tenant, has outgrown its facilities in Galveston. We are happy to see that Del Monte was able to relocate 30 miles to the south in Freeport, thus retaining its regional economic impact. We leveraged this opportunity based on the unprecedented popularity of the cruise industry and our optimal location in the central part of the United States,” Rees said.

Thank you, I'll take a look at the Doubletree also!  Do you remember if they offered shuttle service to port?

Galveston Express can take you to any destination within the City of Galveston. Service ends pretty much where the seawall ends down around 95th St. They do offer transfers from a Galveston hotel to the cruise terminal for $15 per-person but have fewer options right now on the weekends because of the high demand to get to and from the airports.

Wasn’t this supposed to open in 2020? Any updates on its progress or which cruise lines will use it?

I was actually referring to the new “piers”  in Galveston rather than new ports as destinations in my post above. Other cruise lines have come and gone from Galveston. I just find it strange that MSC would build a new terminal without test sailing for a season first.

The Port of Galveston will refurbish the building currently in place. There are no plans to build a new structure at this time.

BTW: The folks working at "Bush" call it "International".

(I'm sure there are some the don't)

They call it Intercontinental. For years it was known as the Intercontinental Airport of Houston (IAH) until, well, the rest is history.

We booked with Galveston Express. Our flight was delayed by 2 hours and so we missed our shuttle. We called Galveston Express to apprise them of our situation and I was told to go to a specific area of the airport and get picked up. No worries. We get there and no shuttle. We call again, now we are told the shuttle left 45 minutes earlier. Hmmmm.OK, So we used an Uber. If was roughly the same cost, maybe 5.00 more. Not sure. So the cruise was awesome. Galveston was great. I get home thinking pretty soon I will see the refund on my bank account. Well that doesn't happen even after 2 weeks. So I email and call to no avail. Finally I go on Facebook and private message. Finally a response. Only to hear that there will be no refund and I should use my trip insurance. Eventually they agreed to use the funds as a future use, like I would ever use them again. Please, Galveston Express tell me if I left anything off or if any of this is not accurate.

Could you elaborate on your situation please? Did you purchase travel insurance? Did you call before your flight took off to inform them you would be delayed?

Personally I would just use Lyft.  I discovered a private car service called Galveston Saltwater Moms. Look them up on FB. I used them for my ride to Hobby from the port on Saturday. Great service! It's a group of Moms that do driving on the side. The cost was $60

Be careful, these people can literally be arrested for offering commercial transportation without the proper insurance and permits.

How was Galveston Saltwater Moms? I booked them for our December 3rd cruise. Lori is our driver.

Be careful with these ladies. They do not even have a proper business set up. They have no commercial insurance and zero permission to collect people at the airport or at the cruise terminal, or anywhere else in Galveston for that matter. Plus it's not even the cheapest option. You'd think by foregoing all the legalities they would be able to save the passengers some money but they don't. They could literally be arrested for providing this service, while you sit in the car. Then who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters?

Live in Galveston and drive it frequently.
    OR SO .

The drive in a personal vehicle is not the same as it is in a commercial shuttle. The drive from William P. Hobby Airport in a commercial shuttle and not a Corvette is 45 minutes to an hour and from George Bush Airport the drive in a commercial shuttle and not a Corvette is about 1:20 if there is no traffic.

Also, you are probably judging the time from the highway without considering the shuttles actually are loading up at the airport before they make the ten minute drive to the highway. There is also a ton of traffic on Harborside and Broadway you are probably not considering. Please also understand that these times go completely out the window when the motorcycle or jeep rallies come to town. Forget these times also during spring break weekend as the population on the island explodes and traffic is a nightmare.

I'd say at midnight, and with a police escort, you can make it from the Hobby Airport exit to the Galveston Cruise Terminal in about thirty minutes, but not from the commercial passenger pick-up area at the airport.

We had 6 ppl - 3 Sr Citizens - Arrived at IAH 6:30pm on a friday

Requested UBER XL for 6 - first one showed up that seated 6 and MAYBE 3 suitcases.  MAYBE...

    Cancelled first one.

Requested 2nd UBER XL for 6 - showed up and MAYBE could seat 6 INCLUDING THE DRIVER.  No luggage.

    What in the heck?!

    Cancelled second one.

Finally conceded to splitting the group up into 2 UBER XL - plenty of room for 3 ppl and 3 suitcases.

    $80+ bucks EACH UBER

    1 hour + Friday.

Came back Saturday afternoon after the cruise - again requested (2) UBER XL and it was 80+ bucks EACH UBER

    1 hour 45 minutes Saturday.

Galveston will not be on my target Home Port again.  What a hassle, and so much stress on the "older folk"

For what its worth, at least I got my sunrise photo in Galveston with the Ferris wheel 🙂

Probably best to book a shuttle service like Galveston Express that runs on a set schedule. Much less hassle and plenty of room for luggage. Everyone rides in the same vehicle.

First, thanks for all the information I have gleaned so far from this forum! We are sailing on the Vista Easter Week, April 4 to 11, taking along our daughter, SIL and 6 year old grandson. We fly into Hobby the day before and should arrive around 7:30 PM, I was able to snag a couple of rooms at the Marriott South Hobby Airport with points. I think I will be happy with my choice but any input is appreciated.

I plan to book a shuttle to the port on Saturday morning with Galveston Express, pick up at the hotel 10:00 AM. They will pick up at an airport hotel for an additional $30 fee for your entire party. We have FTTF so arriving around 11 should be just right I hope.

My question now is what time to schedule our return shuttle to Hobby after the cruise, our flight is not until 3:45 PM. Thank you so much for the tip on the Cruise Stop Shop, luggage problem solved! Obviously, we don’t want to sit at the airport for 5 hours but I also want to get there in plenty of time for our flight. So, do we take the noon or 1:00 PM shuttle? Has anyone had experience with Galveston Express? The website is very user friendly and the price is reasonable.

I really wanted to spend the night prior in Galveston but because it is the beginning of Easter Week and with our flight arriving late (went with the nonstop) I decided to give up on that idea. We are looking forward to exploring the area for a few hours after we debark. Thanks again for all your help, especially the local Texans, can’t wait to cruise from your great state!

The 13:00 shuttle would be perfect for you as it would have you to the airport at around 14:00 with plenty of time to spare.

In 2015 Uber and Lyft got banned from the port by the city of Galveston.  State laws were changed in 2018 no longer allowing cities to make independent decisions like that so now they CAN go to the port,

There are a lot of cheaper options:

    RT from HOU:

Uber $90 for the vehicle, not pp for up to 4 people in the car

Lyft $90 for the vehicle, not pp for up to 4 people in the car

    Galveston Limosine $40pp

    Galveston Flyer $60pp

    Galveston Express $65pp

    Carnival Transfer $75pp

    RCCL Transfer $65pp

You have made a comparison between one-way transportation on Uber/Lyft and round-trip transportation for the shuttles. Additionally, they may be able to fit four people in a $90 ride but not with any luggage.
