what do you like/dislike about it? Have you experienced long waits? Do you join dinners in the middle of their meal?
We really liked it - not being expected to be someplace at a particular time really fits in to our idea of vacation.
We did it on the Breeze - last February. There were only 2 of us and the only night we had any wait was about 20 minutes the first Elegant night. But we went right at 7 - "prime time".
Typically we showed up at the hostess station and were seated right away at our own table for 2 - but could have been seated with others if we'd wanted to be. For the ease of the wait staff - they seat whole sections of the dining room at the same general time- but you do not join those who are already being served.
We will definitely do it again - with just 2 of us. Not sure when we cruise with family or friends. I think the larger your group gets the more chance you will have to wait for a table. ;)

They are prolly both the same anyways! :)
LOL...true - but I wanted to keep the record straight! ;)

We LOVED the Haven on the Epic but sailing on the Getaway was sooner than we expected (DH is being transferred and we don't know where to just yet so squeezing in 1 more trip) so couldn't swing it. Definitely going to start pricing one so I know how much I need to save LOL
Here is a GREAT thread/blog about the Getaway.
The last few photos in posts #119 and #120 show the Haven pool and lounge area. You will be able to see how it compares to the Epic. ;)

Awesome! Thanks for letting me come along.... ;) :D

Hi everyone. Normally we sail with Carnival, but we are looking for a change. Can someone tell me how the rooms on the Breakaway/Getaway compare to Carnival? We are looking at an inside room. We are a family of three, and the rooms on Carnival can become a little small closer to the end of a cruise. lol
Thank you for your help with this.
Insides on NCL are pretty tight 135 - 201 sq ft.

I don't see any square footage listed on carnival.com. But according to the goccl.com site - the inside cabins of the Liberty (a middle of the pack Carnival ship) are 185 sq ft.

Hope this helps!

FYI...in general the "Haven space" on the Getaway is smaller and has a different lay out than the Epic. The area around the pool is much smaller - but 2 levels. The restaurant and lounge areas are also noticeable smaller and there is no separate outdoor grille area on the Breakaway like on the Epic - although the menu is available for around the pool snacks/lunch.
The Concierge on the Breakaway - who had also been on the Epic too - mentioned more that once that the feeling of the staff was that on the Epic there was a "very large" Haven space but that they had scaled it too far back on the Breakaway.
Fingers crossed that the Getaway is "just right"..... ;)
Ok...obviously I didn't proofread well - I meant the BREAKAWAY....I haven't even been on the Getaway yet! Sorry :o

I just got home from work, was pulling up all my details getting ready to give Carnival a call to their Guest Admin dept. and was delighted to find that sometime today my emails must have been addressed as "Manage my cruise" is now showing the lowered rate AND my $100 OBC. Got email confirmation with all the correct figures on it, I am quite happy that I don't have to spend any more time on the phone. Very happy that Carnival came through without too much headache, I will be VERY careful though the next time there is a price drop (if we're lucky enough to get one) and try to not let this happen again.
Thank you everyone for the help, I really appreciate it. Now I better go get packing :)
Yay....glad it's all taken care of!! That's awesome news :D

I myself do not eat red meat but I really enjoyed the steakhouse on the Valor. I'm already booked for my August trip on the Breeze. The steakhouse offers poultry & seafood opinions. I think the menu is appealing to mostly everyone.

I would recommend the Chilean Sea Bass or the Lobster Ravioli - and of course the Lobster Tail - for those who would prefer not to eat the red meats!

I loved the Breeze Steakouse. However I did have red meat, the cowboy steak. Best steak I haven't tasted ever. But I hear the seafood is good. I don't like seafood.
Huh???

Yes - separate areas. Maybe this will help....
Here is a link to photos that I have out on fb of our Breakaway cabin #9316. An S6 - Haven, Aft Penthouse with Balcony. You do not need a fb login to view the photos.
We kinda lucked in to this cabin - friends of ours had the opposite Haven Aft booked on 9 so we booked this one while the ship was in early construction. As info became available we discovered just how well we'd done!! ;) Deck 9 seems to have the largest balcony - the only down side is the pole which really wasn't an issue at all!
It truly is a special cabin - and you can NOT beat that Haven experience! :D
If you have any questions - just let me know.

Still looking for info on Frankie Golden - on the Miracle now. Anyone sailed with him before??

The $35 pp already includes the tip, right?
But if you want to tip on top of that, do you add it to the S&S card or hand someone some cash, an envelope, or what?
Thanks.
Yes....and yes!! ;)

we always do the early dinner, and I'm always right on time. This is our 1st time with our kids, so I assume we may be running a little late some nights, I'd also like them to be able to see the waitors sing and dance. If we show up between 6:15 and 6:30 that's ok right?
I don't recall seeing how old the kids are - which might change my answer. But, as others have already pointed out - arriving in the MDR that late is going to be a problem.
ATD has already been suggested - which may be your best option.
But - if you'd prefer - you could just choose to do the Buffet/Deli/Pizza, etc. if there turns out to be a night (or two) that you can tell you are not going to get to the MDR "on time".

So I was just looking through the pictures of our last cruise and came across this one. For the fun of it I put all the printed material that we received in the 7 days on the bed to see how much there was. Pretty crazy.
Sorry, I don't know how to make it a big image.
LOL...it does seem "out of control" sometimes. I've never spread it all out but I have marveled at the size of the pile while packing to go home!
-
Thanks for the info - we will probably include the kids in the reservation and change it on board if the kids would rather dine with other kids in the buffet instead. :)
Happy to help!
That's the perfect plan. They can always reduce your reservation but adding could be an issue - depending on where they had planned to seat you. ;)
-
Thank you so much I just received my email confirmation for our reservation!!!
EXCELLENT!! Glad I could help. ;)

Absolutely beautiful!! Looks like I have a new one to add to my cabin wish list.
It is a FANTASTIC cabin - and you can't beat that Haven experience! ;) . We booked the same cabin on the Getaway for February 2015. :D

Is payment made when you reserve pre-cruise or on the night that you dine in the steakhouse?
If we reserve a table for 4 and discover after boarding that only 3 want to attend (that's possible) how much notice do we need to give so as not to be charged for the 4th?
They will ask for you S&S card - at the end of the meal. You will only be charged for the dinners served! ;)
-
Not sure which aft cabins your looking for - but here is a link to photos I have out on fb of 9316 on the Breakaway. S6 - Haven Aft Penthouse with balcony. You do not need a fb log in to see the photos.

Yes, they made it!
Woo-hoo....GREAT news!

Our heaven-on-earth balcony, cabin #6470
This was taken with me craning my neck around to the side of our balcony
Absolutely!! The balcony, the quiet, the wake....we love it all. We spent TONS of time out there reading, enjoying the sun and doing nothing!! ;)

That might be the best plan.
We checked in at the bake shop a couple of times - but we never bought anything. Lots of things looked good especially the cupcake choices - but I was never hungry enough to justify getting anything.
