  1. I believe Royal has gift certificates available on their website.

However, there's a process to go through to redeem the gift certificates. It would be easier just to call and have on board credit added to the bookings. That way, there is nothing for the recepient to do. You can call 800-722-5443 to purchase OBC. The OBC can be used for anything they would use their SeaPass cards to purchase.

Would I just call and give them my kids names for the OBC? And then would that just be attached to their individual seapass cards?

  2. Are there such things Royal Caribbean gift cards? Do you find them where other gift cards are sold?

Was thinking of maybe getting these for a gift for my 3 kids to use onboard Oasis. If I do, can they be used for anything? Thinking maybe drink package, internet package, non free foods and drinks etc.

    Thanks :)

  3. I've only been trying online. Maybe if I actually call the hotels that might make a difference?

I mean, I DO have GALLERYone booked so at least we won't be on the streets! I was just mainly looking to see if there were a better one for the 5 of us to be staying at. I'm probably just over thinking this as I do with most vacation planning :o

  4. Lago Mar and Marriott Harbor Beach are very nice beach hotels just north of the port inlet. You will get a great view of the ships coming in from those properties, but the ships come in really early, in the middle of the night. So you'll be starting your cruise sleep deprived.

Thanks for those suggestions :) Unfortunately, those are both not available for my dates.

  5. As commonly discussed here, the places most likely to accommodate 5 in a room are the ones that have "Suites" in their name. Having 5 in your group might have been important info to share with us so we could help you faster.

I realized that I failed to put the number in our party until it was too late and the suggestions started coming in :o Sorry about that.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions. I just really want this vacation to be great as it could end up being the last one with my kids. No matter how much I tried, they wouldn't listen and continued to get older :( With two in college already it's getting harder and harder to plan trips...

  6. If you look down the board, the hotels commonly mentioned are Hyatt Pier 66, Hilton Marina and Embassy Suites. For comparative ranking, check out TripAdvisor.

Thanks. I just checked on all of those. Unfortunately the Hyatt and the Hilton can't accommodate the 5 of us and Embassy is sold out. Maybe I'm good where I am...

  7. What is considered the BEST hotel in Ft. Lauderdale to be able to see the ships come in?

We are booked at the Gallery One right now but just wondered if there was something better? We will be there for 2 days pre cruise in January.

  8. Long story short - first RCI announced they were going to introduce the Dynamic Dining concept from the Quantum class onto the Oasis class ships. When Oasis and Allure were in their last drydock periods, the MDRs were split into three restaurants, one on each deck of the MDR - American Icon (Deck 3), The Grande (Deck 4), and Silk (Deck 5). Additionally a good portion of the Viking Crown was converted to a Coastal Kitchen for suite guests.

Then, RCI announced they were going to delay introduction of Dynamic Dining until later this year and then they went back and said Dynamic Dining would not be coming to the Oasis class. The MDR will continue to use the traditional dining menus rather than the associated Dynamic Dining menus.

That was the main crux. Other changes:

    1. The private dining room on the port side of Deck 4 was converted to Izumi (sushi and teppanyaki)

    2. The private dining room on the starboard side of Deck 4 was converted to the Diamond Club

    3. Cupcake Cupboard was removed and is now the Kate Spade store

    4. Seafood Shack was converted to Sabor

    5. The Ice Cream Parlor is now Cups and Scoops

    6. Boardwalk Donut Shop was converted to Boardwalk Dog House

    7. Concierge Club has had Wonderland added to it

    8. The Izumi that was part of Windjammer has been removed and converted to be part of Windjammer

    9. Starboard side of Viking Crown becomes Coastal Kitchen

Was the donut shop a free donut place? If so, is there another donut place onboard now?

Also, is the ENTIRE Viking Crown Lounge closed to non suite guests? Viking Crown was one of our FAVORITE places to go and just chill for a bit.

  9. I get nervous reading about things like this happening and I do NOT want my cabin changed for my upcoming cruise in January. I do have my preferences checked as "do not upgrade" but I called RCCL a while ago anyway just to make sure they know.

I told the girl on the phone that I do not want either of my cabins to be changed (and told her about how I hear of people's cabins being changed without RCCL telling them). Her response was that RCCL does NOT change any cabins unless we notify the person first asking them if they want to be changed. We do not just go in and change cabins on people.....

    :confused::confused:

  10. Does Oasis have a suite that would hold 10 people?

We are sailing on Oasis with my sister and her family and there are 10 total of us. We already have our rooms (4 rooms) and I'm quite certain we will not be switching (nice to have "space" from people sometimes). But I got to thinking, I wonder IF there is even a room on Oasis that holds 10 people?

  11. It will all be detailed in a letter you will get in your stateroom called "As You Depart". Attached is an example from last year.

Thank you. I've printed this so we have a frame of reference as to what to do :)

I wouldn't wait until they put the info in your cabin. Go to customer service early on in your cruise (like the second day) and ask to be put on the list.

And, I wouldn't be too worried about a 9:30 flight at FLL from Oasis. Even if self-assist is backed up, you should still be off the ship and in a cab by 7am or so, and at the airport by 7:30am.

I will definitely keep this in mind, thanks! My daughter is on a competitive cheer team and we booked this cruise before the competition schedule came out. Lo and behold, she has a competition the day we get home. So, we are hoping that (assuming the competition is late enough in the day) we can get her to the competition on time.

  12. Sorry they come down right away. Cruised last year the week after Christmas and the ship was devoid of anything related to the Christmas Holiday.

I'm actually ok with them being gone. We decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving at my house and, being from Michigan where the last few winters were never ending, I'll be happy to NOT see anything wintery on my cruise :)
