  1. Hi Cruisecritic friends,

Looking at D227 and D629 balcony cabins for our July Cruise trip. No luck with the port side cabins at the sale price.

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of these two rooms? This would be first time on Princess.

Have cruised before long time back.

    Thanks much.

We're booked in D227 on Coral in June so we were glad to follow Colo Cruiser's link. Thanks for posting.

  2. In Ketchikan, we did a floatplane with Island Wings. It was the highlight of our trip. Very scenic, they landed us in the middle of nowhere in the middle of a small lake. We exited onto a small island to stretch our legs and take pics. The silence was amazing. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

  3. We've cruised Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, Princess, RCCL and Celebrity. While we really like RCCL ships, they have really upped their prices too much in our view. We switched to Celebrity and enjoy the small differences like smoke free casinos and soft drinks by the can instead of refillable cups. We still like RCCL ships but will stay with Celebrity for the value.

  4. Thanks for the observations. We will be on the Reflection in November. Our first cruise on Celebrity was this past January ( Constellation ). We loved it which is why we opted for our upcoming cruise. Funny you should mention the

wait staff clearing drinks too soon. While this did not happen to us, we did hear people complain a few times that their drinks had been taken away while they were away from the table.

  5. Just off the Oasis. In fact, still at the airport waiting for our flights. Re: Windjammer - we never found it hard to find a seat, but we always eat at "off" times. The only problem we had with the food was that it was not hot. It wasn't cold, but definitely needed to be hotter. There was always a good variety.

  6. Well I could sort of say that, too.

Except that our Disney cruises are 3 or 4 nights.

Our Royal cruises were 5 and 7 nights.

Bit of a value difference there.

We will only cruise DCL if we get a decent price, though. So our cruise prices aren't necessarily indicative of all DCL cruises, since we are self-selecting out of the insanely priced ones.

I agree. Disney prices are substantially higher. I have yet to see a DCL cruise

at even close the price of RCCL for similar cabins. Don't get me wrong, I would love to give Disney a second try. Just not at their inflated prices.

  7. We are huge Disney fans. Having said that, Disney is toward the bottom of our list for cruising. We cruised Disney once and found the experience disappointing. Don't get me wrong - we enjoyed the cruise, but it was not as well organized as RCCL or Princess. We put it on par with Carnival or NCL, not our preferred lines. When we add in the extra cost for Disney, they fall even further down on our list. We did think their private island was the best we've been on, though.

  8. The amount paid is for the duration of your cruise. "Duration" is the time remaining. If you purchase your plan on your last day, the duration of your cruise is one day - $24 (or whatever). That is why they say "starting at" or "from". We always bought the 60 minute plan because 10 minutes a day was plenty for us to check our email. I assume these blocks of minutes are no longer available. Anyone know if this is the case?

  9. We've been on Carnival, Princess, NCL and Disney. We always come back to Royal, though. They seem more organized than the others. If we are staying on board or have many sea days, we'll stick with Royal, but some other lines have more desirable itineraries (for us). Did anyone else try to kill the bug on Zigybean's post?

  10. I know the feeling all too well. We have not been on Royal Caribbean since Jan 09 because of a " misunderstanding". We finally decided to try the Oasis this August. Meanwhile, we have cruised five times on other lines and were able to experience what they have to offer. The service on board has always been fantastic but poor customer service off the ship ended up costing RCCL those five cruises (x 2) plus possible future cruises. They really do need to work on that aspect of the organization.

  11. We get the soda package since we aren't big drinkers. There are some nights when I will have a few beers and my wife might have a couple of specialty drinks, but nothing that would justify a drink package. We haven't been on RC for five years and it used to be everyone in the cabin had to get the same package. When did this change? I might have to rethink things.
