1. What's a jitney?

Hi! A jitney, from what I have read, is a what they call a minibus or bus in Nassau. If you look at the Nassau Wikipedia it talks about them.

The #10 jitney is located on George Street. A couple of blocks from the port exit. When u come out of the gate, go straight one block to Bay Street.. make a right and go about 3 short blocks (past the straw market) . George Street is on the left. There will be someone on the corner directing you.

Jitney's run every few minutes, so you may have a 2-3 minute wait.

The cost is $1.25pp and you pay as you get off. Just tell the driver where you are going. Driver usually doesn't give change.

Taxi will cost $18 for 2 ppl. $3 for ea. add'l person. Plus tip.

Good idea to get the jitney there and cab back. Remember rush hour traffic can add significant time to your travel, Rush hour starts around 4:30pm .

Great info, thank you. Our ship doesn't leave until almost midnight, so rush hour shouldn't present to much of a problem. Thanks again.

We're flying in to Boston two days before to explore the area before boarding the ship. I was last in Boston 20 years ago... We're staying at the Hyatt Regency, other than that I don't have a game plan yet. Any tips would be much appreciated!

Well, living here I don't often do touristy things, but would recommend a duck boat tour. You get them from the Prudential Center or Museum of Science. They give a great tour of the city and it might spark your curiousity of something else to do later on. Top of the Hub is a great place to eat dinner (amazing view) at the top of the Prudential Center. You can always walk the Freedom Trail for historical activity. The North End has great italian food- when are you coming- if you like baseball, Fenway park for game or at least a tour. . . I might be able to give you more if you share some of your interests.

  4. HI All,

Please don't suggest we leave him home. We've already cruised with him once, he's about to go on his second cruise in May. He's a well traveled kid already. We know he won't remember but we will and we enjoy having him with us.

Love it. Way to go! People love to offer their opinions on stuff like this, way to get out in front of it.

I live in Boston and would love to help if you were stopping here, but it looks like this NE itinerary doesn't.

Best of luck. Have a great trip and enjoy your son.

  5. Hi Scuba, so, as you may have seen, we decided on Melia. We get in around noon on Enchantment. Will Jitneys be waiting for us? Trying to figure out if we should take one or a taxi. . . leaning towards trying the Jitney on the way there and possibly taking a taxi back. . . what do you think?

PS. We will be 2 couples. How does the pricing work out?

  6.
I'm going on Carnival, so it's Little Stirrup Cay in my case...so weird. But, all I can see offered through Carnival is the one type. I wanted to know if there were more.
That is funny cuz they have coco signage. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I think it's just 1 type- but check out the RCL boards to be sure. And welcome!!

  7. I was just at the Melia for the day on Thursday. I took the #10 bus for $1.25 each way and it was very simple. I bought the package onsite at the resort for $50 which included lunch. My lunch alone totaled about $40 as their food is expensive, but it was all included. The waitress said I could order as much as I wanted and could get 2 soft drinks. So I got a salad ($12), a grilled chicken entree ($19) and iced tea ($3 each) plus tax. So really I only paid $10 to sit on their beach and it was a gorgeous day! The beach was relaxing and a lot quieter than the ship.

Great to know! Thanks for sharing. May I ask, about what time did you arrive at the resort?

  8. Vodka tonic. Actually, ANY regular cocktail (mixed drink...not frozen) will be much stronger than you get in land-based bars....they do a liberal pour! Frozen drinks are quite weak. Beer is cheaper, but not as strong....but you can drink for longer with beer, than with liquor!

    Wine is WAAAAY overpriced!

    Great to know!

  9. Drop your group off at the port with all the bags. Then just one of you take the car back to the rental place and ride the shuttle back. Be sure to have a copy of your set sail for the group and one for the car return person. The rest can go thru the screening and wait for the driver upstairs then check in as a complete group.

    Great idea!

  10. LOL.

So, I was telling an old friend about our upcoming Bahamas cruise and he reminded me that he and I went to Bahama Boom in 2001-ish. It was hysterical. So, we became friendly with a few cruise ship employees and joined them at Bahama boom at their recommendation. We were clueless and YOUNG. Anyway, I have NO desire to revisit it as a 32 year old, but was wondering if anyone had been there or knew anything about it.
