  1. Nice thread. 39 somewhat single here. :-) I've usually traveled With family or friends or gf. Coordinating times doesn't always work. I've always wanted to go on a cruise alone as at times when I went with others it was just a pain. Trying to get everyone to agree, etc. Guess it was a year and a half ago now I decided to finally go on a cruise alone. Let me tell you I had a great time. Only did a four day cruise. Happened to be during my birthday too which was even better. Although I seem to cruise every year at some point during that week.

I've booked my 2nd solo cruise this November, I can't wait. Will be a 6 night this time. If the 7 or 8 night was available that week for the price i paid id do that. 6 night will work though. A friend or two said they may go, but am hoping they don't. If they do, they are getting there on room. I've got a 6 night for well under $500. That's even with the double occupancy rate.

I'm so excited to go on my 2nd solo cruise, that I'm turning it into a semi back to back cruise. Am now going to go on the Sensation for three days out of Port Canaveral, then drive down to Ft Lauderdale and hope on the Freedom turning my six nights cruising to nine with a slight three hour drive in between. :-) It's still possible others will join the 6 day venture, but I'm not talking much about it to those that had interest in going. Hoping add will kick in and loose interest. That's so horrible of me to say. :-/

  2. I'm quite happy with my own company, so I don't go out of my way to meet other singles.

I go to the mdr for evening meal and most of the time I'm on my own but I love it.

    Amen. Quite agree here.

  3. My 11/25 on the Freedom was $578 + taxes, etc. the 1As are sold out now though, and it looks in the wake of VIFP, prices have gone up on almost everything right now.

Just went to price same cruise I'm on and casino offer price is 478. Fun Select is 918 and early saver is 618. All these prices are before taxes and regular interior room.

  4. Where did you find a 6-night cruise for under $500 for a double occupancy rate???

    Kim

Carnival Freedom on 11/11/12. My price with tax is like $ 578. It's their players club promotional pricing. The early saver pricing though isn't much more.

  5. I am 27 years old recently divorced. I love to cruise so I told myself why should I stop just because my relationship ended. So I booked my first solo cruise on The Freedom and I'm really excited about doing anything I want! :D However, I am kinda wondering what dinner is going to be like... Any suggestions for first time Solo?

It's a breeze really. Like you I wondered that. My first solo was on the Carnival Imagination and elected for anytime dining. Well about three weeks or so to my solo cruise I was on an 8 day on Carnival Freedom with a group. (5 of us) Well we got to know our wait staff really well during that trip to say the least. Well was I surprised when I walked into the dining room on the Imagination to be greeted by the same asst hostess on the Freedom. In any event everytime I went to to eat I always had a face I knew. Odd part was the other solo cruisers I sat near each night. By the fourth night I had sat with a group of young ladies I meet that we're on the cruise for a work function. I had a blast. It really is what one makes of it.

I've decided on my next cruise though I'm not going to elect my time dining but do the late seating and see how the cards are drawn for table mates. Worst case is I change after first night to my time.

  7. On my last cruise, we had 2 guys at our table having a little competition and they had salad, soup, 7 lobster tails, prime rib & dessert. I only had 4. They are awfully small! :p

    What's your best?

My last cruise in August I ordered two. Waiter had brought out extra and asked if I wanted them when I had completed the two I ordered and offered them to me, didn't want to hurt his feelings so I said yes of course. :) So I had four. :)

  8. Thank you for sharing. It's great to see updates in how he's doing. Hope he was able to connect with some others to help get him situated on his first leg of his cruise and his many others to follow.

  9. This is exciting. Nevermind waiting till being 94 to do this....I'd love to do it now. Good for you Egon! Wish you the best throughout your year on the high sea's. Hope you check in from time to time on CC.

  10. "Do Not Cross The Red Line"

    DSCN0698-1.jpg

A couple of years ago, Carol and I attempted to walk ashore here but pooped out before we got there. So we sat on one of the red bollards to rest a bit.

A Mexican Security Guy came rushing up waving his arms around and screaming at us in Spanish.

We had no clue what he was yelling so we continued to sit there resting and smiled at him and nodded our heads a lot.

When Carol said she was ready we got up and moved along.

Yeah, they are very quick with that, to get you to not cross the red line. Happened to me a couple years ago. So didn't cross it when we were there last year. But while we were there last year, they did do a drill at the dock's where someone fell off the pier. Was quite interesting to watch them simulate a rescue mission. Looked so real too. Was even more entertaining as it was when a buzz caught on from a Very strong drink from three amigo's. Although I think your ship is docked at the opposite pier from three amigo's and senor frogs. If the pier your on is like the other one, they had bikes with seat's on them they would ride people to and from the ship down the pier.

  11. You might wonder what the little "Black Thing" is on my plate...

It is "Black Pudding" and I tried it because I like to try new things.

I mean, if necessary, I could always have spit it out and kicked it under the table if I didn't like it.

It is some sort of pork & beef sausage and it was delicious!

In the future, I am going to eliminate the pork or turkey sausages from my plate and replace them with several pieces of this "Black Pudding" stuff. :)

On the Freedom it is in the back of the Windjammer near the Eggs to Order Station.

I Googled "Black Pudding" and you are probably better not knowing what is in it or how it is made. Try it, I bet you will like it!

haha, now that has to be one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Was wondering what those things were I'd find under the table, guess others didn't like it and kicked them under the table. :)

You're doing great Jim...I 2nd the others in you making this a back to back cruise. :) Can't wait to hear about the rest of your adventures today.

  12. I think that today was my first really enjoyable day on this cruise.

I relaxed, finished one book and started two more.

I met some more CCers and made some new friends.

Best part is, since your now relaxed and this was your first real enjoyable day, more are sure to follow, tomorrow you don't have to get off the ship. Far to many times on the short cruises, one gets really relaxed and knows where things are and what to do and it's time to get off the ship. You've got three more days left. Live it up!!

  13. The funny thing is that sometimes I think people are looking at me and wondering why I am by myself.

    Has that guy been Bad?

    Is he in "Time Out?"

    :D

Your doing great Trainman/Jim! Am sure none of the people that you don't know yet are thinking that. There are always people that are part of groups off doing their own thing and in one since or another solo during a portion of their cruise.

Thank you so much for your review, I know I'm glad and am sure everyone else here on the board is glad to be a part of it.

Wish my group I'm sailing with in a month was on your cruise, know you'd have some amazing stories that we'd all love to hear and be a part of.

  14. Has anyone pre-paid for drinks with the bon-voyage gifts, basically giving a gift to yourself? In the end would this be cheaper for drinking?

Comes out to $ 5.315 per drink. Doesn't say that coupon includes tip, I would imagine it wouldn't?

Although your friends are going on a fabulous cruise "Without You!" you can still treat them to a drink. They'll definitely thank you for it! (This item is non-refundable)

Bar Credit (4 Drink Cpns) $21.25

    Item # BAR
