  1. Ok perfect! I know now:) so any experience with this card? Is it worth getting one?

I have one and use it for booking any NCL cruise and other extras. You will basically get 100 bucks of onboard credit the first time you use the card.

Then after that, each dollar charged on the card equals one point.

    5000 points = 50 bucks onboard credit.

Any NCL charges (cruise, excursions, etc) will count triple points so it adds up pretty quick. I had 15000 points this time so that is 150 bucks onboard credit.

There is no annual charge. Cant really speak about interest rates, etc. I am fortunate enough to be able to pay off the card whenever I charge something on it.

  2. This is not true. In other threads posters have said that they called the upsell department and an email sent them.

I booked through an online agent. (very well known..they keep the PRICE in LINE. I did not receive an offer to bid for an upsell. I called the upsell # this morning to check on my 10/29 Escape cruise. All the agent would tell me is that some travel agents had opted out of the upsell program. She said she did not know which ones. That stinks. Too much red tape as usual.

  3. We have been in 12904. It has a really large balcony but the extra space is nice but it's somewhat unusable without a lounger or two.

This isn't the best picture but it will give you an idea of it's size.

Thanks for the picture. I will try to bribe the room steward into sneaking us at least one lounger. If not I am still glad to have the extra space as that is the true destination for me. I spend a lot of time watching the ocean from my balcony.

  4. The aft-most (but still side-facing) balconies are slightly wider than the standard balconies.

There is a better picture HERE that shows that the "extra" width differs from deck to deck.

Deck 13 is fairly small but still wider than standard. Same goes for deck 10.

My mom had deck 12 (12304) which easily held a lounger with the 2 chairs/table.

Thanks, I wound up booking 12904. I could tell from other pics that 12 was wider than 13. Much appreciated.

  5. I sailed the Allure twice and absolutely loved her. My kids are grown so there werent along. But I did notice a lot of child themed activities inside the ship but not as much up top.

Sailed the Getaway (very comparable to the Escape) last year and fell in love with her too. I have the Escape booked and leave on her in 3 weeks.

There are plenty of things for kids on NCL too. They probably win for outdoor activities with the rope courses and waterslides.

You wont go wrong with either choice. Both are very family oriented.

If it matters, food on the Getaway won hands down.

  6. Aren't insides substantially larger than studios? They're often much cheaper, too.

Why would anyone opt for a studio over an inside, if the former costs more? The snacks in the lounge couldn't be that good, and they only have a lounge because the rooms are so small all you can do is lie down to sleep.

Are you comparing correctly? Double the cost of the inside if you are traveling solo.

  7. Exciting, I must double check to make sure I'm getting the triple points.

Booked a few days ago for a last minute on the Escape and about to book my Baltic Capitals. Plus the onboard charges on this upcoming Escape and then Getaway cruise.

Off to login to my BOA accounts and check things out

I got triple points for the cruise, SPA pass, etc. It really adds up quick.

  8. The credit card technology isn't NCL's - for the NCL CC it's Bank of America that you need to get angry with.

Dont think so. BOA is also the provider for the RCCL card. You go online (RCCL) and apply the rewards. When you call to apply the rewards for the NCL card, you are calling NCL so it is obviously their problem and decision to make it harder than it should be.

  9. So I have two BOA Mastercards (no fee).

One is an RCCL card and I use it when I book RCCL cruises.

The rewards program is so simple. Go online, apply your rewards to your cruise and you are done.

But hold on, not so fast with the NCL card.

You have to call them to apply the rewards.

I have tried numerous times and get put on hold for long periods of time listening to the same loop of tired commercials.

I finally got through and of course I am told "sorry, our computers are down, call back later".

I stayed on hold this morning for another 20 minutes and then -- CLICK --disconnected.

Come on NCL. Get into the 21st Century. Why are you staffing people on the phone to do this when it can obviously be done painlessly online?

I like the NCL cruise ships and experience. But this reminds me of their feeble attempt to get internet connections with speeds any faster than the old dial up days.

SPEND SOME MONEY. UPGRADE YOUR TECHNOLOGY!

  10. Fun to follow this conversation. Folks pay thousands and thousands for a cruise but let the fact that bottled water costs more on the ship than at a club store onland drive them bonkers.

    You have two choices.

    Pay for the water.

Get a cup and drink the ship's water.

And so many posts complaining about paying gratuities on a free beverage package. If that upsets you so much, then decline the package and pay for the drinks AND gratuity.

Or just find another cruise line.

  11. Thanks Tony for the info! We love catamarans and beaches. When I was searching thru the excursions I confused the times. Looks like the kind of day we love. We booked it as did 3 of our friends for our Sept 3rd Escape cruise. Looking forward to it!

    Thanks!!

    Kathy

I have been to a lot of beaches. I am not a beach nut by any means. I dont like rocks, seaweed etc. This was by far the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. No rocks. White sand. Crystal clear water. Very peaceful. Not that many people there.

Be sure and try the Painkillers at the Soggy Dollar Bar. A couple of those and you really will be in paradise. We booked the same itinerary just to get back to Jost Van Dyke.

  12. Is this excursion really that good?

$109 catamaran ride to Jost van Dyke for an hour of beach/bar time?

What is it that makes everyone love it?

    Thanks,

    Kathy

Where did you get the hour of beach time? The excursion is 5 hours, with maybe a 45 minute ride each way. You get about 3 hours on the beach. Might not be worth it to you but is sure is to me.

  13. Hate to hear that the bridge is no longer part of it. That was by far the most memorable part of it. We were up there about 20 minutes. I have to say I was surprised at the access we had. I stood over both of the glass panels that are on the bottom of the wings sticking out on each side. We were at cruising speed and it was very interesting to watch the way it all worked.
