  1. That solution has probably been suggested 1000 times in this thread. There is around 20 % of smokers. Some will claim to enjoy the smell of smoke but don't smoke but I doubt if that would account for another 30%.to fill up the "smoking" side. I assume that the executives at Hal have at least some intelligence so I wonder why they haven't come up with this "perfect solution". I'm really getting to the end of my tether with Hal but not only for their resistance to change the policy. My issue is the fact that they go with the pretence that smoking is wildly popular. It's not 1940 Hal.

Yep, I'm aware of it being suggested, in fact I've suggested it many times before on this thread. The only thing is, no cruise line has even implemented it to see if it will work...it would be a good compromise if it did..

  2. There is a restaurant/bar here in Richmond Virginia (keep in mind Richmond is where Phillip Morris is headquartered) that caters to smokers, one of the very few around. Although Commonwealth law says they have to accommodate non-smokers as well. So they set up a separate room just for them. It has it's own ventilation system and meets all the requirements set out by the Commonwealth. For the most part, I have only seen smokers in this place.

What is funny is the outrage expressed by people who have NEVER been there or live probably too far away on the other side of town who INSIST they close the place, even though these people will most likely NEVER set foot in there.

I know HAL has a lot of loyal customers, some are smokers, some are not. But why can't they just set up a smoking section of balconies on one side probably closer to the back of the ship to accommodate smokers on their balconies. I believe this would be a happy medium for all involved. If HAL keeps selling out their ships because of smokers, that is probably their business plan. This bar I was describing above is ALWAYS packed with smokers, from all the posters in this thread complaining of smokers, apparently HAL is always packed with smokers as well, with the exception of a few.

  3. I went there with my wife a few years ago and enjoyed it a lot. Even had a massage on the beach. It was a long drive from the ship though. Hoping for something closer, but this still is an option. I like that they limited to 50 guests too. Oh, just found out the drinking age is 18 at all our ports too. Hope my 18 year old doesn't find that out. Maybe as we are heading back to the ship at our last port, I'll have a beer with her at a bar.

  4. We will be here (there) in July with my family. I'm almost 50, same with my wife, we have 13 and 18 year old girls, plus I'm bringing my 77 year old mother in law with us.

I would say we are all somewhat active, of course, my MIL won't be zip lining (but then she might). I'd be up for it and I could probably talk my wife into it, of course the kids would be all over it, but don't think we want to go that route. MIL and kids would be content sitting on the beach. My wife and I like to see historic sites but are also open to other suggestions. Kids probably not so interested, MIL may be.

Any suggestions on something EVERYONE in my group can enjoy?

  8. So I went to the barber today, told him this was my "1 week away from our cruise" haircut. He asked where we were going, I told him our itinerary and our embarkation and debarkation port was San Juan.

He got very excited then told me that when he was young, one of his neighbor friends would tell stories about his father (the neighbors father) in the military and him spending time in San Juan doing research on an alien space port underwater. He said he kinda just blew it off as things other kids say, but then a few years ago he saw a documentary about an underwater alien space port outside of San Juan. And he said the documentary was exactly like his friend had described.

I did some research on my own once I got home and found tons of internet sites devoted to this. Apparently there is some way aliens travel around underwater in their space craft and this is the area they come in to and out of the water. Like there is an underground highway for aliens...

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts about this? I mean he was so excited about it when I told him we were going to San Juan, he seemed so believable, plus all the stuff I found corroborating his story.

  9. So our upcoming cruise is going out of San Juan. But, on our flight to there from Virginia, we have a 4 hour stopover in Boston. We had a port stop in Boston on a cruise a few years ago and enjoyed the town, especially the North End.

We are considering taking a water taxi from the airport to the wharf. If you live or have been to Boston, what are your thoughts on a vehicle taxi vs a water taxi? Is it cheaper taking a water taxi? Quicker or slower? We want to make the most of our time there..

  10. Good idea! I decided to call the hotel yesterday and ask the front desk. A nice gentleman told me the bus stops right around the corner and I should have no problem getting to Old San Juan...he even told me the bus numbers. I'm glad I called, I like to be prepared when I go anywhere, and now I know and won't walk around like a lost tourist!

    Thanks for the suggestion.

The buses in San Juan do not follow a schedule. They come when they come. The best advice I can give you is to ask the person at the front desk of your hotel for the bus number you need to get to OSJ. The cost is $0.75 per person. We rode the bus into Old San Juan from both Condado and Isla Verde. You are closer to OSJ than we were. In fact we went past your hotel a couple of times on the bus we were on. You will probably have 2 bus routes that go near your hotel. Just take the first one that comes by. Of course of the correct bus. Ask the driver if the bus is going into OSJ. You don't want to get on a bus heading away from OSJ.
  11. We are staying a day prior and a day after our cruise, so I am not interested in paying a huge sum of money to a taxi driver just to go from our hotel (the Hyatt) to OSJ. Does anyone know anything about the bus system there? I am talking bus routes and possibly the cost. I went to their website and it is in Spanish.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
