  1. Ah, after reading this, I went to the Verizon website and found it pretty easily. Do you know if this is for one phone only though? Or is it added to our whole bundle? It has me to specify which kind of phone I have, my wife and I have the same kind of phone and it may be nice to have both of our phones on the list if that's possible.

I suppose I can just call Verizon and ask them as well. Yes, their site is quite confusing!

    Thanks for the reply!

you would need to add an international plan your your basic phone account. I checked the list and Curacao is on it. Plans start as little as $25 a month additional to your basic plan. You can add this for just the time you need it ... I did so for a recent trip to Europe ... they prorated the fee. My international service kicked in the day I landed in Poland and stayed with me thru Hungary, Austria and Germany.

I recommend you CALL and talk to a human tho ... when I tried to do this via the web page it became a wee bit confusing. Talking to a person it took about 5 minutes.

  2. When my wife and I were there last year, we went to a restaurant called Toro Salao at 367 Calle Tetuan in the Old Town. It had outdoor seating and the weather was very pleasant. It was like we were in an outdoor cafe in Europe, it just had that good vibe. Plus the dinner and drinks were very good.

While we were sitting there, a group of school kids were practicing a dance routine very close by. We could see them and hear them but they weren't very loud. We also had a good chance to just sit and relax and people watch. Since we were outside, basically in the middle of the huge sidewalk, people were walking on both sides of the outdoor seating area (enclosed) and we enjoyed just watching them

We really wanted to go to a coffee place and try some of the Puerto Rican coffee, there was one that was highly rated but they closed 5 minutes before we got there. They weren't too far from the restaurant I mentioned above either. Since we will be back to San Juan in less than 2 months, we'll make sure to plan a visit to the coffee place.

Don't bother with the Bacardi tour. It seemed like a waste of time to me and took more time than it really needed, cutting into other things we wanted to do.

  3. Main - we are from the midwest and tend to eat, and go to bed earlier.

Also, frequently have travelled with our children - not so easy for them to handle a late dinner.

Wow this poll is from 2005!! Funny how it got resurrected at different times over the years.

I am guilty of performing all the resurrections. Every time we book a cruise, I come back to it and post what my dinner seating is.

Plus, I started the poll back in 2005....wow, I've been on Cruise Critic for a LONG TIME!

  4. Does anyone know if AMC is one of the channels available on the TV's in the cabins or in any of the restaurants or bars on the Jewel? My wife and I like to watch two of the shows on this channel and would rather see them "live" as opposed to coming home and watching from our DVR.

It's The Walking Dead and Fear - The Walking Dead, BTW.

  5. I am finding a nice CLASSIC hotel in OSJ that will accept a one night stay hard to find. A co-worker of mine suggested The Gallery Inn, but they have a 2 night minimum. Others I've found also require a 2 night minimum.

Something about staying in an old hotel, built over 300 years ago while in a town that's as old or older seems pretty intriguing to me. I don't mind taking a taxi to the Pan America Pier if I need to get to the ship. While in town, pretty much everything is within walking distance.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see what others say.

  7. My wife is somewhat picky towards wines. Does anyone have a list of wines, both red and white, aboard the Jewel?

We like to buy them prior to sailing to give them a taste try at better prices than on ship.

Since she (the Jewel) is in Alaska these days, I also wonder if the selection will change once they come to the Caribbean.

    Thanks

  8. We stayed post-cruise in the Courtyard by Marriott on Ft. Lauderdale beach. It was great! Although they have a shuttle, they wanted to charge 25.00 per person to the airport. I told them it would be MUCH less by taking a taxi. They actively pressured us to take the shuttle saying there is no way a taxi to the airport would be less than 50.00 for us. For my wife and I, it only cost 13.70 plus a few bucks tip, a LOT less expensive than 50.00 plus tip from the shuttle.

A few reasons we chose this hotel is they are beachfront! There are also shops and sidewalk cafes all along the beachfront that we were able to go to. They also have a HUGE deck with a bar, overlooking the boardwalk and it was quite relaxing to just sit there, enjoy a few glasses of wine while people watching.

Plus, there is a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co restaurant right below the deck, we had lunch there and the food was good and reasonably priced.

  9. While at Sears today, I noticed a 75% off sign and decided to take a look. I found a goldmine! Overall we found, and bought 2-2 packs of TSA approved locks (with the same key working all locks), a European/US power converter (normally over $25.00 or more), a money belt, inflatable travel pillow, and a neck pouch to carry passports and tickets. ALL of this cost only $16.53 with tax! They even took the 75% off the already discounted price! c73b289d53d090115d8813c870ed2677.jpg

  10. Looking for opinions on the best Marriott property near the FLL cruise terminal, please & thanks.

We just got off the NA on Sunday and stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott ON Fort Lauderdale beach for a night. It was great! There is plenty of shopping and restaurants along the strip fronting the beach.

We enjoyed having a cappuccino and breakfast on a sidewalk table, then stayed for some people watching for a few hours. For lunch, we went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and it too was great! We loved sitting on the deck of the hotel (the deck is on top of Bubba Gumps) where the bar is located, watching all the "interesting" people walking along the strip. For dinner, we went to the Greek Wave and took a few gyros back to our hotel room and just relaxed. The next morning we had coffees and bagels at St Barts coffee shop just down the road, on the beach...

We really wished we had another day to hang out an just watch everyone.

One suggestion, take a taxi as opposed to the hotel shuttle ANYWHERE you go, the shuttle is NOT FREE. You will probably save at least 50% easily. When we checked out of the hotel, they tried to push us into a shuttle for a 25.00 per person ride to the airport. I refused and they said I would be lucky to get a taxi as cheap. I flagged down one of they MANY taxis on the street and only paid 13.70 for the trip to FLL, not including tip. There IS a trolley that goes north and south along the beach for a buck I think per person, but there was enough for us to see without leaving.

  11. My wife and I drove up to Orlando last week to attend Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights event. We went specifically to go to the Walking Dead section and it was well worth it. They had great recreations of the prison and of Sanctuary with walkers coming up to you around every corner. My wife screamed pretty much non stop through the whole thing, lol.

That would have been great to see! There is a google map of actual filming locations for the Walking Dead, we are going to plan out a trip to Atlanta in 2015 to hopefully see some of the locations. If they are filming, we would also like to be one of the zombies, but that would be hard pressed to get through the auditions.

I posted a picture above this post, thought you might find it interesting.

  12. Not sure if you recall the episode called "30 Days Without an Accident" but.....Rick was venturing out from the prison scouting for food. He ran into an Irish lady who said she and her husband were on their to Acapulco for their honeymoon. While at the Atlanta airport for their layover, all hell broke loose. Her husband had turned already and she was looking for food for him when she ran into Rick. Rick asked her if she saw the African sculptures in the airport, she said yes. He asked her what her favorite was and she said the "Leap Frog" sculpture was. On our March cruise, while in the Atlanta airport, we actively seeked out this sculpture, and found it (see the attached pic). It was between terminal T and A in the tunnel.

  13. Thanks for the post. They were restringing the lights the other day. Everything seems to be in working order.

My pleasure, I am happy to hear everything is as back to normal on your cruise as it can get. I have some souvenirs from the strike, when the antenna and lights were demolished, they cleaned up as best they could but there is always some debris left over.....I have a few pieces of a light socket and some of the antenna debris as well. Hope they don't mind me keeping it.

  14. I noticed they are offering a Beverage Package for Half Moon Cay for $29 pp. (Frozen Classics, Beer, Mocktails, Waters, and Sodas) Some conditions apply.

I don't remember this being offered last time we went to HMC in March.

Do you have any additional info about this? Especially what the conditions are.

Just getting off the NA, that offer is for 6 drinks for 29.00. It IS transferable too. We reluctantly did NOT take it.

And only good on the island too.

  15. I hope they have better tour guides, the lady that did our tour last week was not very personable. She sounded as if she was reciting it all from memory. But we did see construction work and she said it was for a larger, better tour.

  16. Hello,

we are on Eurodam 11/30 to 12/14 in the Caribbean.

Can we get cash money (US$) on the Islands at ATM`s (Cayman, St. Thomas, Jamaica, San Juan)?

And have we Beachtowels in the Cabin?

    Thanks.

As others have said, San Juan and St Thomas use US dollars. Not sure about Cayman and Jamaica.

Our stateroom attendant left beach towels in our cabin on our cruise last week.
