I hope that they don't head in your direction but watching the way in which everyone seems to be trying to get out of London I think that yo may be unlucky.  Given that no one is supposed to go to a lower tier the crowds should be stopped at the railway stations and all public transport should be stopped from leaving the tier 4 areas.

There will be lots heading to Cornwall and the Isle of Wight I bet....!

I guess it is inevitable that it will spread across the country. Slowing it down will only work if folk follow the rules. Any bets on that happening?

No bets at all..... Most sensible people will obey the rules but unfortunately there is the minority that don’t believe this is serious - and will cause the inevitable damage for January.

No I haven't got the Christmassy feeling. I am struggling to get motivated. We haven't got any decorations up yet, although we did decide yesterday to get the tree up - only we can't find it!! Thought it was in the loft but it's not so the only other place it can be is the garage, but as we have the contents of my daughter's house in there I don't know if we will be successful finding it.

Am I the only one struggling?

    No you are not!
I’m not putting the tree up this year. However I have got a wreath on the door and have a few special decorations up along with some small battery operated tea lights inside a Georg Jenson house I got in Tivoli Gardens a few years ago.

You could always fly into Banff or Calgary and then join an escorted coach/rail tour through to Vancouver, with a company  like Globus/Cosmos, before picking up your cruise.

I flew into Calgary quite a few years ago and then travelled to Vancouver stopping off in places like Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, then a night on a train thru to Vancouver and into Victoria Is. A wonderful 7 days which I would thoroughly recommend. At the time it was a bolt-on to my Princess cruise up to Alaska and back.

I have been listening to a politics broadcast this morning (sad I know) and it had me wondering whether people are planning to have get togethers with their family during the 5 day amnesty next week.  Our families have decided not to get together and we will all stick to telephone calls, Zoom and FaceTime because no-one wants to take any risk, as my sister said yesterday she would rather give up one Christmas to keep everyone in her life for many future Christmases.

Let’s hope the vast majority are as wise as your family.

I am staying at home on my own and hopefully next year we will all make up for the quiet one this year.

The first person to get the vaccine, a 90 year old sprightly looking lady in hospital in Coventry (I think).  Just on BBC breakfast.

Hopefully the first of all those who need it and will get it,   and excellent news.  Still a fair way to go, but it feels like the first sign of spring!

And the second was a man from Warwickshire called William Shakespeare.

Tis a good morning and the start of the long road out of this awful time.

I would love to do the full World Cruise and have indeed got to the point of checking out cabins but I keep falling down on one of the main requirements---travel insurance. I have existing medical conditions, nothing too extreme, but when I do dummy quotes with any of the known insurers I get rejected.

The very few times anyone has been willing to quote the cancellation cover is £5000-£7500, simply not enough for a Worldie.

Admittedly it was back in 2012 but I found that if you phoned up insurance companies (rather than dummy online quotes which I agree never gave enough cover ) many did quote for the full price of the world cruise (mine was on the fabulous Aurora).
I went with Staysure at the time.

Some of the bigger TAs (like the beast) will also recommend an insurance company with adequate cover. It is expensive but very necessary when away for over 3 months.

    Totally agree.

Apart from those who do not keep their appointments - how many will not have the second jab because they got a headache or cough in between and decided the first jab "gave me Covid"?

Oh gosh, I’d never thought of that scenario that people wouldn’t return for their second jab.....😟

And, from memory, she lived on one of the Channel Islands and was appallingly rude to local shopkeepers. An appalling woman, but entertaining viewing.

Any of the other ladies on here rather like Rick Stein? Never tried his recipes, but he's got a brain and a lovely voice. Not that I'm influenced by either of these things, of course.🤞

Oh yes, Rick Stein does indeed have a lovely voice. I also used to like his dog Chalky who was a real character.....

Thanks Harry, but I don't want a smart meter. Every 3 months I read the meter, enter it into my online account, two days later they email me and I pay my bill online. Once every 12/18 months someone will come out to read it as well, but I think that's to make sure I'm not  being naughty with the numbers😉 Simple. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Avril

Me too April. I like to pay for what I have used and no more.

I have been sending them for over 15 years because they are much easier than regular cards for our family and friends outside the UK because I can specify the date that they should be delivered.  The children love them even more than the adults do.  I have a membership because we have so many people abroad to send them to.

With 1st class stamps going up 9p (to 85p) on 1st January there will be more people using the Jacqui Lawson type cards.....

I can't even get an appointment at my dentist.  I have broken a filling, but because I'm not in pain, I can't have an appointment 😞

I only have an emergency appointment to look at the damage and so am doubting anything will be done until the new year. However I much appreciated them slotting me in.

I hope they can save it.

I've had 5 implants as the dentist said the root fillings from my falling out crowns could not take another crown.

So do I...... but, I’m not optimistic. I feel a big dental bill coming.

Thanks for not starting me off about dentists. And another thing, why does that jelly stuff need to be green, everybody, for days afterwards think you have been eating spinach and why do they ask you a question when your mouth is full of their fingers and metal things and......???

Aaah..... I’ve got to go this week as a crown fell out. 😢
