  1. Yeah!! Time to book NCL and Celebrity and get a lower price AND FREE DRINKS!!!

Those FREE DRINKS you are touting require you pay the 18% gratuity (on NCL). Not so free and for me, not even worth the 18% gratuity. I've spent 28 nights on NCL ships and you can have them.

  2. The couple next to us had a second set of chairs in the sun -- I suppose they moved back and forth every half hour or so, but that's kind of cheating don't you think?

Yes, that is cheating and a person can only have one chair. And this is what I would do with those cheaters. Wait for them to move to one set and immediately sit down in the other set. When they start bitching, tell to call security (or whomever). Tell security that they were sitting somewhere else but if they want the ones you're sitting in, you'll gladly move to where they were. They won't have a leg to stand on at that point.

  3. if you are using it all day, that's not an issue. if you are gone past 40 minutes.... then the stuff can disappear.

I wont be a peach for those breaking the rules and stopping me from having a chair... this is true.

but if you are in the chair all day and only leave it for a few minutes at any given time and we are next to each other... I will buy you a drink if you want

Throwing stuff overboard is breaking a Carnival rule as well. So do you pick and choose the rules you wish to follow?

  4. towels that are saving chairs thrown overboard

flipflops that are saving chairs thrown overboard

books that are saving chairs thrown overboard

    get the picture?

I doubt anyone with any common sense is going to take the time to take items off a chair on deck 9, go up to deck 10 and throw them overboard because when they got back the chair on deck 9 it would already be taken by someone else.

    Get the picture?

  5. I am an early riser on cruises and I hate chair hogs.

On two different mornings, I was looking for a lounger on lido after breakfast at around 8 a.m. to sit for a very short time. The only loungers not being saved were on the outskirts of the deck in the shade. Other people unsuccessfully searching for a chair at about the same time included elderly couples who struggled to walk and a dad who wanted to supervise his young child in the pool.

If I am looking for a seat at 1 p.m., it's because I spent the morning supervising my children. Why should you "save" your seat while you sit somewhere else (lunch, casino, a shadier spot), when I could sit happily in your empty chair for thirty minutes?

I could have left towels on a lido lounger and a serenity lounger at 7 a.m. and then returned hours later to use "my" spots, but that would have been wrong.

Because, by Carnival's rules, one is allowed to save their seat for 40 minutes. If you don't like Carnival's rules, complain to Carnival, not the person abiding by the rules. And please don't use your kids as an excuse. It was your decision to take them so live with what that entails.

  6. Yeah I think We are going to book Celebrity. The balcony price was $400 cheaper than the Vista PLUS it includes 2 drink packages and $300 OBC. How can I keep booking Carnival? Plus with the lame entertainment on Carnival ( which I was willing to let slide for a great price) but now I guess I'll take the better entertainment along with the better deal!

Big difference between booking the Vista and booking Carnival in general. You're comparing apples to oranges.

  7. I am wondering about tipping. We are going to be eating free in the steakhouse since we will be Diamond and that is one of the "perks." IDK if a tip is given to the waitpersons by the ship or we should tip the regular 15%??? Would most likely tip a bit extra anyway, but I don't want it to be below what they would get for a "regular paying customer."

As I see it, the cost to go to the steakhouse includes gratuities. So if, as a Diamond, you get a free steakhouse dinner (i.e. Carnival is covering the cost of the dinner), the "freebie" also covers the cost of the gratuities (since they are not separate).

  8. OR don't buy it. As I'm sure has been pointed out in this thread and the OP already knew before starting it, you don't need Cheers to drink. If you're travelling with someone who can't drink for whatever reason, too bad I guess you just miss out on the advantages of Cheers. You can't always get what you want. Carnival should never allow any exceptions period. My husband and I don't have the same drinking patterns, so we don't buy it. He's not sick or anything. He just doesn't drink as much as me. Lol. Why should your excuse be anymore valid than mine when nobody is forced to buy it? A doctor's note is a joke. You can generate them online. And in some cultures, pregnant women do drink wine and yes go on to have healthy babies.

No exceptions or Carnival should do away with the rule. In the meantime and as you point out, there are other options.

The statement was made for those who just had to have a drink package.

  9. We are booking vista from Athens in June, have a major dilemma about the Havana area, like the idea mod having s separate limited access area as I'm sure the cruise will be full but looking at the aft balconies worried it might be quite noisey from the bar etc below, I guess we have no way of knowing??! Looking at cabana but then we are bit worried about people walking past our window all day and night?! Aggghhhh don't know what to do!!! Maybe we should just go for a standard balcony!!

They also have inside cabins in the Havana area so you won't have to worry about possible noise issues.

  10. We always bring 2 bottles (both for me). I usually just carry the darn bottle around with me. But since I'm a classy gal now ... I pour the whole dang bottle in a giant tervis cup and carry that with me

Last march, a friend opened a fancy "twist" top bottle in her room, used her own brought from home glass (cup) and carried both to MDR. They tried to make her pay a corkage fee.... we pitched a fit .... they backed off. That's the first time carnival has ever tried to charge us (me ... her, whatever) a corkage fee.

It's very possible that someone was new and didn't understand they don't charge corkage on a glass of wine (and the main reason for that is because they have no idea whether you poured it in your cabin or bought it at the bar just outside the MDR).

  11. I do not plan on purchasing the drink package. My point is that other cruise lines allow only one person in the cabin to purchase; but, I do understand how this could work against the cruise line as lots of folks would try to cheat the system.

If anyone is unhappy that Carnival requires all of those in the cabin (21 and up) to purchase the package feel free to sail someone else such as RCCL that does not require it. There is no requirement that anyone sail Carnival so problem solved.

  12. Yes, only they will know what really happened. I heard that the crew forgot to turn the elevator off and someone got in. I am sailing on her in 6 days and this tragedy has not deterred me. I will say a prayer for him and his family while there. :)

Hence the reason for a "Lock Out" sign on the circuit breaker. But accidents do happen which this most likely was. It's a shame but the accident should not deter people from sailing a fine ship.

  13. Thanks! It's our first cruise and I wanted to be sure I understood the policy correctly.

Hope you enjoy your cruise. And just to let you know, each adult (21 and over) in the cabin can bring 1x750ml bottle. I don't drink wine so my wife gets 2 bottles to enjoy on our cruises (her bottle and my bottle).

  14. Oh,yea....I know they always have the staff with the tables displaying the foods/wines for the steakhouse when you board to make reservations. I will ask them if we can switch to 6:30. Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Glad I could help. Hope you enjoy your cruise and you steakhouse night.

P.S. - If you have room and enjoy cheesecake, try the steakhouse cheesecake. It's delicious and as big as a house! :D

  15. You can bring both twelve 12oz cans and a 750mL bottle of wine per person, correct? Can you mix and match the cans (e.g. 4 coke, 4 red bull, and 4 juice)?

Yes, you can bring cans and a bottle of wine. There is nothing stating that all of the cans must be the same so yes, you should be able to mix and match.
