  1. Thank you :)

NCL Epic, Western Mediterranean in a Solo Studio (I'm from the UK so staying close to home for my first cruise)

Epic was my first solo cruise. I stayed in a studio. Had a blast even though I was under the weather.

  2. Amen! Solo is the way to go, as far as I'm concerned.

As for the folks who look at you as though you're nuts for being "alone," the best response is to say "I'm not alone, I've got 3000 (or 4000 or 5000) people with me!" I've found it tends to get the message across PDQ!

    I love this response!

The older I get 40's club too the more I like being by myself and so absolutely love solo traveling. So much so that I'm telling people who want to travel with me that I'm going solo and basically you're not invited. Going on a 14 day TA cruise solo and I'm so looking forward to it.

  3. Have a good trip and I'm glad you started this thread. I'm flying to Copenhagen but I'm going to arrive 2 days early and I wondered about jet lag. Plus I'm going to wear some compression socks on the plane too.

  4. I like them because when I open my luggage items aren't spilling out all over the place. I do unpack and hang my items up. To me it makes everything neat and organized. It only took me 15 minutes to pack up my items for disembarking the next day. The longest being my toiletries because I didn't use a cube but I will for my next trip.

  5. I'm taking my second solo cruise this year on NCL Getaway a transatlantic cruise leaving from Copenhagen. I've never traveled overseas so this will truly be an adventure. I actually have 2 family members who want to travel with me but to be honest I'm wanting to go alone. I'm going to stress this to them.

I have traveled on land based trips solo and the thing I love is doing whatever I want and not worrying about coordinating things with others.

I know some people don't like dining alone but I actually prefer it. I'm not the most outgoing person and don't like small talk. I hardly ever initiate conversations with people I don't know in person unless it's work related. I will participate in the meet and greet because I've taken some time to get to know some of the members so the conversations won't be too awkward. But I'm also looking forward to lots of alone time too.

My first solo cruise with NCL I was always seated by myself and after the first day the Maitre D didn't ask again if I wanted to be seated with others. I told her the first day that I wanted to be seated alone.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  6. You could always donate the items to a local shelter instead of the Goodwill where you live. From my experience (I haven't cruised much but I have traveled to land based resorts) the locals you encounter are trying to sell you something. Plus why carry all of that extra luggage around especially if you have to fly to the port? Even if you drive (bus or train too) to the port that's still extra luggage you have to deal with.

I understand your thought process though but you may end up bringing the items back home in the end.

  7. I went to guest services and put $100 cash down. I prepaid everything (prepaid gratuity, spa pass, spa services, etc) plus I had OBC that I had to use too. I had my credit card and more cash just in case. I actually had to go to guest services the last day of the cruise to get a refund because I didn't spend all of the $100. So the $300 deposit is only a suggestion not a requirement.

  8. Liking the review! I'm doing the TA next October leaving from Copenhagen and for now solo. I've only sailed on NCL Epic so it's nice to see the differences between the ships. I had a studio cabin on that ship so I'm excited about the balcony this time. The one thing I didn't like was not being able to see the water from my room. I didn't have the drink package on Epic but picked the drink and dining perk this time. I said if I'm going to be on a ship for 2 weeks I'm going to need a drink.

    Happy New Year!

  9. Oh my goodness now I'm scared! I'm taking my mom on a RCL and Princess cruise and invited her sisters and my cousins to come on the RCL one. I think I made a mistake. I'm the only one who cruised before and I now they'll drive me crazy! Didn't think about that. I thought s cruise would be a good family trip. Swells you're so patient with everyone.

I think I'll plan on some activities that I'll do alone. I know I'll be the go to person and all of that time with them and the chaos and disorder will suck my energy dry.

I'm a planner and organizer too and hate being late. My aunt and my mom take FOREVER to get ready and do things at their leisure. I hope I survive because I usually travel solo.

  10. I'm just back from my NCL Epic cruise in a studio cabin. There was actually a lot of storage in the cabin. I was on the ship for a week and everything was put away. I liked the studio lounge for the ice water, iced tea, cookies, hot tea and coffee. I didn't participate in the solo cruiser roll calls. I ate a lot of meals by myself and didn't feel awkward at all. But I do this on land too. No one asked me why I was eating by myself or gave me strange looks. The cabin was comfortable and I slept extremely well because it was so dark. Loved the light settings and the fact that the tv was so close to the bed.

All that said, I truly missed having a balcony cabin. On NCL Epic, Deck 7 was obstructed by the lifeboats for the majority of the deck. I had a thermal spa pass so I spent time out on the balcony there looking at the water. But otherwise I didn't have any fresh air with a view unless I was in the thermal spa or on deck 15. I missed that quiet time looking out at the water on the balcony. I know some people love inside cabins and I liked my studio cabin to a certain extent. But for the rest of the solo cruises I have booked, I'm biting the bullet and I booked balconies. Even on the RCL and Princess cruises I have booked as well as my next NCL. If I found a really good rock bottom deal for a studio/inside then of course I would book but it wouldn't be my first cabin choice.

  11. Although open, GSC isn't fully renovated. The final product looks stunning but it will take some time.

    Expect lots of comments then.

I agree. I was under the impression that it was finished but found out last Sunday when I tendered over that construction was still in full swing.

  12. Prepaid works. My intention was to walk off the ship with a total of $0 charges. But low and behold, they had tees from the Mediterranean on sale for $5. Got me one and that was my final bill.

Awesome! This is my goal for my upcoming cruise.

I did prepay my gratuity and my thermal spa pass.
