  1. The theater is perfectly safe at night. I have no idea why you would think otherwise.

I think the other poster meant about walking back and forth at night, that's something we're careful about especially around cars at high speeds

  2. More confusion about the difference between check-in time and boarding time. There is a difference.

Most boarding passes say boarding begins at 1, but boarding will begin at whatever time the ship is cleared to receive passengers. That could be 11... it could be 1.

Priority passengers (whether it be wedding, Platinum or FTTF) will board in that order before the general public regardless of whatever check-in time they may have (for ports that implemented staggered check in) or time they arrived at the port. Information on the Carnival website explains this quite well.

Things get dicey the later a ship is cleared for boarding, causing some to consider the FTTF perk of cabin readiness to be diminished the closer boarding gets to 1pm. The fact remains every other perk is still afforded to those holding FTTF even with a later-than-customary boarding.

    Yes!!!

This is so accurate, we had FTTF on my 1st cruise with an inspection/drill going on so it cleared late. We waited and waited but we were let on after the Platinums etc.

I see FTTF as a purchase of this:

*Room ready 1st, & immediate access

    *Dedicated line at guest services

*Debarkation after Platinums when doing self assist

    * special tenders

On my 2nd cruise with FTTF we had issues returning the car (Miami Marathon) we dropped off our bags ok but couldn't make it back until noonish, where we walked right on the ship, room ready, my bag arrived within the hour.

  3. If you go to that theater. Go before dark.

My Father and I eat at the Ruby Tuesday right infront of the Hilton. We like it better than longhorn.

On the other side of I-95 ( the mall side). There is a BJ brewhouse. And a Carrabba's / outback. Right next to each other...

Hey, thanks... You know that area well, where should we get our wine and maybe a bottle of scotch for at the hotel? I see a grocery store and a Walmart that should sell wine.

  4. The Hilton Garden Inn near the airport offers a reasonably priced shuttle to the port. It is clean, comfortable, and much nicer than the Red Roof which is kind of sketchy IMHO.

Thanks for the tip on the Hilton Garden Ducklite & Elklemi - I've been looking at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jacksonville - Blount Island, but our flight will probably be arriving late 11p and staying closer to the airport might be better (Flying in 2 days prior to cruise.)

The flight I wanted to take (the schedule changed for the holiday time block so it isn't the screenshot) left at 5:30am any my guy gets home from work at 4am so that would be cutting it too close... Also we have a plane change and he'd be too sleepy for that.

Our return flight options have an 11:55am departure and a 2:45pm, I've done the early flight thing and we do have FTTF but I'm nervous about cutting it that close, and it has a 30 minute longer layover.

  5. I tried using some dry erase boards on my last cruise for our door but they were too heavy (for the door) - they worked on our room walls.

Both the car magnets worked on our doors, they are 7 x 4 inches wide, refrigerator magnets seem to work.

As far as the flame retardant policy, I think people were going overboard with the decor so they had to tone it down.

  6. We're cruising in the Carnival Elation 12/17- 22, and have time off from work 12/15-Christmas.

Southwest opens flight bookings on Thursday 5/19, and I need some advise on where to stay in Jacksonville. We plan on flying in precruise with at least 1 hotel night, though I'd rather fly on the 15th (the 16th is my birthday)... I'm also looking at staying post cruise just so we don't have to rush to the airport but it's completely dependent on Southwest, Christmas is on a Sunday, we leave the ship on Thursday.

Hoping to stay in a budget up to $150 per night, and would like to stick with Uber or Taxi for transport if not included in the room.

  7. i do a few things. i really really really tend to my sinus/ear health. i have allergies at home but i only tend to them at their worst. on a cruise i keep up all the irrigation and rx nose sprays etc. i also wear a patch - all that said, i still feel it for a few days after cruising, but it is not severe.

the only exception for this is when i took a small boat around cape horn. the seas were so extreme i had it terribly for 6 weeks.

    good luck!

Your allergy symptoms seem like mine so I hope the patch works.

    "

Tips were everything. Auto-tips were a Godsend, because anyone who thinks he/she tips enough voluntarily is usually wrong. The auto-tips were figured by how many guests are assigned to your dinner section. If you had a small section, say only 18, you were constrained by that number. The biggest sections were 22 or 24, which are a whopper of a section. But there is a lot more money to be had for that extra strain during dinner. Thus, even if the guests don't go to dinner, you get those auto-tips. They are automatically split between you and your assistant waiter for the cruise. Since you work breakfast, lunch, midnight buffet, and room service without any specific pay, those tips are well earned even if the guest opts out of the dining room constantly (by going to the supper club, for example, or eating in port)."

  9. I used Happy Hour shuttle last May with no issues from Port Canaveral to MCO for 4 people. Cheaper than CCL shuttle and we got there so fast we had to hang out in the airport mall.

On the trip to the port we rented a SUV because it was cheaper than the shuttle for some reason and we were getting in at different times and 1 couple had a whole day to spend in Orlando

  10. Post cruise I took OTC motion sickness meds as I discussed with my ENT and PA friends. Unfortunately it didn't stop the rocking.

My primary care Dr gave me an RX for dizziness to try the next time I have symptoms- I get symptoms of airplanes and amusement park rides too.

For the cruise we are thinking about taking patches during and after.

  11. The only way I've gotten a "sale" or reduced price was either by booking early - discounts on multiple excursion packages on cruise website or when my excursion was canceled due to lack of people--- I had to fight for that, they gave us a higher price excursion for the price of the one we booked.

I'm a planner too (Engineer), I've done cruises with groups of 4 and 20. Waiting to book can be frustrating. I tend to do a better job of convincing others by showing them the activity so they can get excited. You all can wait to book onboard but depending on the adventure- like the dolphin stuff it may sell out.

  12. So far I have taken 2, 7 day cruises and have returned with the feeling like I'm still on the ship.

I don't get motion sick onboard, just after I'm traveling or at port when I'm not moving.

I'm told this is MdDS (by an ENT MD)... I'd really like to find something to lessen the severity of my symptoms when I return from my next 5 day cruise or I may have to give up on cruising.

Does anyone else have this problem? Do you do anything for it? How long do your symptoms last. (Mine last 2 weeks for a 7 day cruise.)

  13. Friends of mine got it when I posted about the weekly pass. $250 per couple as posted above seems right... I purchased a day pass in Roatan and liked it, it's empty on port days. I probably would have been disappointed if we had a free steam room... The sauna by the gym is free, and they have steam showers on that side.

  14. I check the rates on rooms I'd be willing to switch to so I can calculate the actual discount.

As long as you're happy that's all that matters
